Hi Uwe ~ Is the electrical device you're using -- the one you're calling a "rectifier" -- the same thing as constant voltage/constant current (CV/CC) DC Power Supply? The metal under the chrome plated pipes shown in your video are in very good condition because, quite honestly, it was difficult for me to see the difference between the stripped metal and the chrome plated metal. I've liked and subscribed , so please keep on making these informative videos.
Hi yes there are called bench power supply some people call it power rectifier the metal under the chrome is nickel and nickel looks very close to chrome but if you put them next to each other you see the different thanks for subscribing
@@GoldenSolutionPlating Thank you for the clarification, Uwe. Do you still sell the Chrome Stripper demonstrated herein via your eBay store? We've got a satin chrome wrench in a wrench set that stands out from the others. Why? Because the remaining wrenches in the set are treated with black oxide. So the idea is to strip the oddball wrench of its chrome plating and, more to the point, to apply a black oxide treatment to make it match the others. By the way, the work we're presently responsible for does not allow us to employ plated metal hand tools.
Fascinating. I've looked everywhere online, but can't find any answers to a question. I'm sure you are quite a busy person, but by any chance would you know if it is possible to change the finish or completely remove the chrome finish/shininess of a heavy duty polished chrome doorknob? I have a design client who just bought a house that has expensive, heavy in weight, doorknobs in shiny polished chrome & she hates it. Because the hardware switch would be expensive, I told her that I would find out if there were a way to change them... First I thought; "hmm maybe there's a place where they could be power coated or dipped in a dark, matte bronze-ish black, but after looking online I came up with nothing. My fear is that at this point she may just have to buy all new hardware for the house, but I promised her I would try! Thank you in advance if you happen to see this & have a moment to answer. She hates shiny hardware (have to agree on that, unless it's polished nickel sink hardware:)
Hello, hoping you can help. I need to de-chrome a kawasaki z1300 frame ( an awful 80's paint job too!) so it's a large item. The chrome is peeling away in parts and there is quite heavy surface rust. How would I go about removing chrome from an item like this. And no, unfortunatly there are no chromers in the vicinity to take it to. Thanks for the vid and your time.
@@GoldenSolutionPlating What If i want to remove the chrome, and the nikle to reveal the brass underneath? Ultimate goal of mine is to get down to brass so that I can give it that Vintage Petina brass look.
Hello Im in north calif., I weld #potmetal car parts and antiques etc. Im looking for someone who can handle re-chroming #potmetal. I would much appreciate it.
Pot metal, especially old pot metal, gets pits in the item, and doesn't look good rechromed. We used to simply polish the heck out of it (early GTO hood scoops for example), then sprayed it with a good lacquer.
Much easier process is to use muriatic acid.........stripping chrome from bumpers was one of my chores at my father's chrome shop. Simply used a plastic garbage pail full of acid, stuck one end of the bumper in it, scrubbed it with a brush using rubber gloves.
@@jostrander71 Hey Larry, When you use the muriatic acid to strip, are you using it alone by itself or adding electricity like in this video? I tried muriatic acid to strip a chrome faucet . left overnight in a water/acid solution but not even a scratch. Should i add electricity?
I would recommend a fume respirator vs a particulate mask.

I bought a 32% hydrochloric acid to remove the chrome plating for my bicycle cranks will it work?
Can you now spray a powder coat onto the nickel, or would the nickel layer also have to be removed?
yes you can
thanks
Fell asleep
If i was to do this on a car bonnet badge in place would it affect the paint?
No not at all
Thanks
Hi need some advice is it the same for stripping chrome of aluminium any help would be much appreciated thanx again steve
This will only strip chrome
It’s very rare that aluminium will be chrome plated but if it’s chrome yes you can remove it
Would this be ok on an Aluminium Engine casing?
If it’s chrome plated yes
@@GoldenSolutionPlating Thanks yes it is but very shabby and all flakey with standing years was a Honda CB750 chopper.

@@Stevo73660 well if you use our chrome stripper then there is no acid in it
The best is probably use chrome stripper first and polish off the rest

Most likely Sodium Hydroxide. Be advised, this method produces Hexavalent Chromium (Chromium 6), VERY toxic stuff. As in "Erin Brockavich" toxic.

there are original painted or powder coded
i would sandblast the frame

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, it is chrome plated...definitly. Would sand blasting take off the chrome completely?
Try using battery acid...its a quicker reaction
