- Are you looking for a digital note-taking device with a coloured E INK screen to read A5 documents? The brand new Onyx Boox Note Air 3C might be just what the doctor ordered. It has some significant selling points; it is the first 10.3-inch e-note with a black-and-white resolution of 300 PPI, so pure text and internet browsing will be razor sharp. The device employs an E INK Kaleido 3 colour e-paper, displaying over 4,096 colours when viewing PDF files and drawing in full colour. The Carta 1200 panel increases the overall performance of the entire software experience. You can also download millions of free and paid apps via Google Play with Android 12.

Just got this unit 4 days ago. Couldn't be happier. Fantastic for reading magazines. Ebooks are also a joy to read on this thing. Only downside: bit heavy
What about the darkness of the screen for reading ? This is the reason why I'm hesitating to buy it.
It honestly doesn't bother me. The letters are very detailed and the screen is really kind to the eyes. If the reviews didn't pay attention to it i would have never known.
@@wesselkampen2644 Thanks for the answer
¿How is the Battery Life? Thats my main concern. Thanks!
@@AlabortCh depends on what you're using it for. Have it 6 days now and it's down to 38% now. Could be better i guess, but it's absolutely no deal-breaker
This device is the standard to beat as far as I'm concerned, great stuff from boox.
Its kind of weird to say "Lets move away from black an white" and then go an show manga .... which are 99% black an white.
Thanks for the support
I love your channel and reviews, always the go to place for reviews
I've always been very fond of e-readers of this magnitude, mostly a tablet like experience. That being said, with the OnePlus Pad costing roughly the same and sometimes even less... it's hard to lean towards any e-reader. Unless of course I got the money to have both, which I don't of course hahah.
I think with any e-ink device, you absolutely MUST be buying it first and foremost BECAUSE it's e-ink. The experience with e-ink is so compromised in terms of video refresh, etc, that it's not a good idea otherwise. If you really want e-ink and you fit the use case, you won't want anything else (eg I bought a mono Boox Ultra because I spend half my life staring at a screen when writing and eink makes it feel like paper, whereas a traditional screen ends up giving me a headache). But if you're not that fussed then a traditional tablet is always going to be both cheaper and more versatile.
It should be mentioned that the device drains the battery "pretty fast" because of it's refresh tech and the 3700 mah battery.
Really?
@@sonbv00 It is not so drastic as it may sound but the battery is actually the only objective weckness. At least it has a shorter battery life then the predecesors.
@@sonbv00Yes. For me it was 30% better than on my Ipad only using note app. Not woth it for me.
Not as bad. It's not like a phone. I read couple of hours each day. I hardly lose even 5% battery daily.
@@pprkutdo you read with the kobo app? If so, what is your experience like if I may ask?
I received mine yesterday. Love it! Except for 1 minor problem:
With the front light on, and in a dark environment, you will see a dark shadow, a bar, on the side where there is the Boox logo.
Reading under daylight or bright light is fine.
My Tab Mini C and my Greyscale Tab Ultra don’t have this problem.
Is reading black text considerably worse than on b&w screens? I got worried with what's been said in the video.
@@damian_ski I wouldn’t say it’s worse. It’s just different, background is greyish on color eink displays, you can put up white backlight to around 50% if you want it look similar to a B/W display.
However, this model has a black bar (shadow) on one edge with the backlight on if you’re not reading under bright light.
If this bothers you I’d suggest the Tab Mini C instead. Color display is great for reading comics/manga/magazines and even browsing the web, but if you will not be doing any of those, then B/W display is definitely more pleasant to look at when reading a book.
Newbie question here so sorry if this is dumb or doesn't make sense.
Can you use the Air 3 C without color? Like B/W only? Would that just technically be like using it without any frontlight which isnt great since the color is still there? If you can, how's battery performance with vs without color? I will love using the color for some stuff, but it's not always a necessity to me everday especially if it affects battery life.
I was hoping to see more of the features and applications supporting “productivity” that this device such as the built in note taking app, calendar, memos, productivity-like apps etc.
Which one would you buy? Boox Note Air 3C or Supernote A5 X?
How does this work with pressreader for newspaper and magazines? Would be great to see a vid on that!
The device looks great, but I'm gonna stick with my Nova Air C for now. I'm still waiting to see if the color precision is gonna improve.
Does anyone knows if its good to read comics? (Loke marvel and dc...)
I don't think the colors are as vivid as i would like for the price point. Still cool though
I like the fact that is possible to watch videos. Of course you are not going to watch netflix, but educational videos would be just fine!
You say "look at this, it looks terrible", but if true it simply doesn't come across in video.
I am a bit biased, but these vids are very frank, concise and user friendly to watch. Just saying.
A firmware update is need in Boox note taking app :
1. The ability to create table of contents like in superonte a5x and a6x
2. link star should be like supernote do you could know it is registered.
Got one, don't agree with you. While I see its limitation, I love the color rendition and enjoy looking at photos on the device.
The writing experience is great. I find it also very good so far for reading books.
Everyone is different, of course.
How would you rate it against the new remarkable paper pro for taking note?
I bought the Boox Note Air3 C. I purchased this as a note taking device. I also have a Scribe. I thought this would completely kill the Scribe. Unfortunately, I found it quite the opposite. The Air3 C is heavy and quite laggy. The responsiveness leaves a lot to be desired. I will definitely stick to the Scribe for note taking. The plus I saw on the Air3 C is that it has a calendar app built in that is a great feature for following your notes timeline. Additionally, you can sync with an external calendar (Google Calendar), unfortunately my work does not use Google Calendar for security reasons. These capabilities are worth the admission if you can use them. The responsiveness just wasn't up to par for my tastes. I am sticking with the Scribe and asking for additional features.
Have you tried updating the firmware and calibrating the pen?
But I thought scribes note taking is limited? Based on what I’ve read
Appreciate the honesty
Is it possible to force only black and white mode to be enabled for higher resolution and dpi?
No, that's not an option.
Yes you can use B/W, i dont know why the other guy said No
Can anyone who owns this device attest to reading experience? Does the grey background actually make it more difficult to read a book compared to reading on something like a kindle device? Or are we talking just purely aesthetics here?
I have the mini C with the same screen technology. I do not really understand why it would be "terrible" to read on. It is darker, not "paper white" but I do not like snow white books anyway. Others said that before me but it is like reading a newspaper or an old book (none of those things are really terrible). I actually use it often without the front light too, but for color it definitely helps.
I have this advice and it's been an absolute joy so far. I honestly don't understand the criticism, the screen is magnificent
I have this and have found it easy to get the light just right for all conditions, I prefer reading on it compared to my supernote A5X
I keep at about 40% light I dark.
Under external light source I don't use the backlight.
I can say I am liking it better than my previous eink reader. I need to take care of my eyes and this is much easier on the eyes. I disagree with the reading review.
I don't think so, but the only Kindle device I can compare it to is the Paperwhite, which really annoyed me because of how small it was. Idk if my opinion would be different if I had a Scribe though.
Saw your review for this online. Thought 3.5 starts was quite harsh
Thanks for the review. How is the weight of this? Is it light enough to read a book one-handed for a long time? Cheers.
Thanks. I like your honest reviews even though you have a shop. Seems like you walk that line well.
Our sales and reviews are completely separate
We are in unbiased company as we sell every single brand
For example, we say Amazon is the best even though they account for less than 5% of our sales
We saw the mobiscribe on our site even though we publicly announce consistently that they have the worst device of the entire year
We do not make videos to sell products, TH-cam is only about 10% of what we do as a company
It is simply a way for us to explain the devices so that there is no misinformation, as we are the biggest e-reader review tech company in the world
Thanks for great review! At the moment i have Pocketbook inkpad 3pro. Want to try the best reader in 10inch size for reading not just books, but also magazines and newspapers. Also has to be on android so i can download newspapers applications. Is it this model Boox note air 3 C is today the best model on the market? What is better for my purposes (reading only) color or BW, Boox note air 3C or Boox note air 3? Thanks in advance
Having recently bought an ultra C.
Boox are getting very annoying.
They are just spewing hardware revisions like Xaiomi and Samsung do with phones.
They need to focus on existing customer base otherwise people won't buy from them.
I waited looking for a device that offered what the Ultra C offered, perfect, but then I would also expect an Android 12 update from them for it since its so new.
Can't agree more
It would be great to have someone who combines Ratta Supernote (software innovation for existing devices) and Boox hardware and Samsung (trade in program).
I would totally get one if it wasn't Chinese. They violate the GPLv2 license by not releasing the source code to their adaptation of the Linux kernel used in their products so there is no way I am logging into my google account on this device. Pity because it's insane that remarkable that does't even provide the fraction of Onyx's features is about the same price.
You know this is the only thing keeping me from getting a Note Aire 3 C. I agree that it has way more options/features than the Remarkable 2 and the Scribe for similar prices, I just can wrap my head around that.
This unit seems to have a pin hole, you can see it at 11:17 secs where you have placed your finger right above it. Is this an issue with all Onxy devices, as i have a note 3 c and 2 pinholes towards the left of the device.
Pretty negative review of this panel. Do you think the monochrome is better for reading despite the lower-resolution screen?
Yes, of course it is negative because this device doesn't bring a lot to the table.
We are an unbiased review company, and not all of their devices are winners
They released nine units this year, they can't all be good, the lineup is getting muddled
Thank you for the review! I just received my Note 3C, and there is s gray bar on the left side of the screen. By any chance, are you seeing this also on yours? Thank you.
Considering this tablet, so wondering where you are seeing this? A vertical bar?
It is for color, did you watch video? He talked about it
If it can do just one thing, this will be a perfect tablet for me... And that is outputing to a tv or monitor! At least as a duplicate if not a second monitor. I can't find info on it being possible, but my guess is a no...?
Does anyone know if the Boox Note Air 3C battery is replaceable? If not, that would be a deal-breaker for me.
The battery on this is not replaceable. Tablets, Ereaders or phones will probably never have replaceable batteries.
What time are you living?! Are you new to technology? It is a long time that noOne use a replacable battery but afew, few few
Looking at Boox hardware, it seems they mirror the Apple tablet line up; The Tab Ultra series is in line with the IPad Pro series, the Note Air series is in line with IPad Air, the Tab Mini C is like Ipad Mini and so forth. Interesting approach. The remarkable 2 still wins for me to just take notes and type out some ideas. if I want something more advance, I use my IPad Air.
Not worth it for university. The writing is absolutely awesome, but the battery life is not that good if you use it for learning. In my test 30% better than on my Ipad. The battery is just to small for that purpose. Also not beeing able to switch fast between PDF and notes and other node books really slows down work flow.
So, what do/would you use instead?
So has the Tab ultra c been discontinued?
correct
I've wanted more info on this and the Tab C Pro. Then decide on which and if😮 🎅🏻
Yeah for sure, we are going to get that information ASAP
@@goodereader Can you show video playback options. I know it's not LCD but big screen e-ink should be good. And longer battery life, better for eyes 😊🎅🏻
Sorry, what do you mean video playback options? We showed video playback in the video
@@goodereader If the Tab C Pro & Air 3C are the same same when it comes to video playback, no reason to show again. I thought they might be different 😊
Again, we did show video playback and we show video playback in every single video that we film if a device is capable of it
And the specs are extremely similar to each other, yes.
I really wnt to buy from good ereader. But, I am too far
Well, we ship anywhere in the world so that's not possible for you to be too far :)
Friend
If I use the device for continuous writing with turn-off screen light and wifi and Bluetooth how much time the battery will stay ?
I bought the ereader, it hasnt palm rejection... useless.
Note air3C has palm rejection
bigme is better
You did not discuss the battery life at all which I think is the greatest weakness of it. Now it is just a lousy tablet (let’s say iPad) with none of its benefits and all of its problems. If I want to pay that much money why wouldn’t I just get a previous generation iPad which has a screen thousands of times better and a battery life similar to that one?
Number one, as we have said 60 times before, we cannot talk about battery life. There's no way we can put these devices on an aging table and monitor different use cases throughout a two-week time period
Videos, blue light on, glow light off, Wi-Fi on, Wi-Fi off, Wacom screen, capacitive screen, there's too many factors
And in regards to your comment about an ipad, that is apples and oranges.
"Why buy a Gucci bag, when I can buy a 2008 Dodge Magnum for the same price"?
The reason for buying this over an ipad is that you want an e-ink screen. If you're in that market the ipad screen is not "thousands of times better", but a non-starter. They're not designed for the same users. In terms of note taking, too, the ipad isn't really comparable with dedicated note taking devices.
sorry but it isnt e-ink technology, it is MIP LCD, like garmin fenix watches.
Lol what are you talking about? This is epaper.
I think you're commenting on the wrong video
@@goodereaderIn the description of the video, it says 'e-ink', but this is a specific technology different from that of the Onyx Book Note Air 3. This isn't colored e-ink technology, it's MIP LCD. These are two different technologies.
Sorry, you are 100% incorrect, this is epaper technology issued by the company "EINK"
This is not tft, this is not mip, this is not lcd, this is not led, this is not IPS
You're entirely wrong
@@goodereader really?. feels exactly the same like MIP, i have many garmin devices with MIP, and it seems the same.. what is the difference?
