Regarding sounding repetitive (and I'm certain I'm not telling you anything you don't already know), you never know who is watching your videos for the first time. I'm sure every time you've mentioned your pano tips they've helped someone- even the more experienced of us. So thanks for that!

Tom, you spend a lot of time camping overnight at locations, have you ever tried landscape photography at night? long exposures lit by moonlight could produce interesting results, especially the valley pano in this video.
Great to see you back out in your van and exploring the fells. These videos are the reason I started watching you years ago and they’ll always be my favourite.
The trick i learnt was a pointy finger shot at each end of the pano, that way you don't try and merge them in the wrong order. an up and down would work for focus stacking i should think. thanks for another fantastic vid
Hey Thomas Got my calendar last week, came the last day of my 6 day confinement because of influenza, so cheered me up. Unfortunately that enjoyment was short lived as the next day our beloved 85 year old Binna Burra Lodge was lost in a Forest fire here in Queensland along with 20 houses (but no loss of life thankfully). The fires are still burning now deep inside the World Heritage listed Lamington Rainforest which is very concerning. But your video and chat help us bounce back a little so thank you again.
I think the problem for many photographers is that too often we can rely on the location/event to drive our photographs but the reality as you point out is that we need a lot of uncontrollable elements to come together to give us our best shots. I live on the Somerset levels which is pretty flat and I often shoot the same landscapes but the difference between my worst and best images come down to, the Sun, clouds, tides and the wind and you can't control those, all you can do is 'repitition' combined with as much local knowledge as you can find.
I can totally understand your frustration on the Isle of Mull this week and its been tough to say the least, no sun rise worth shooting and same at the evening end, went out yesterday, shot a few locations got back and not happy with any lol thats the nature of the beast I suppose cant help what god throws our way just make the most of what we have time wise, which for me is a weeks holiday come rain or shine and theres been rain and wind in biblical proportions, enjoyed your thought as always, keep on keeping on !
When out and about and things aren't going your way, try not to be so hard on yourself. Always work with what you have and be open to the possibility of experimentation. You never know what might surprise you later. Besides, there are lots of tools you can use to work with your photos, and might produce some really interesting stuff in post. I do a lot of street photography and one of the things I love about it, is the spontaneity of things that I never knew were there when I took the shot. You should always challange and push yourself. Just try not to over analyze what you are shooting. Just go for it!
Many thanks - no dramatic streaks of setting sun on clouds and hills but I think that is a really great pano of a beautiful, gentle, typically bucolic Lakeland scene

The 1 portion versions are for when you need a meal after a flat walk, the 1.5 is for when you need that extra bit of refuelling after a tough hike 😉 Great video which showed how you made the most of the conditions you were given 👍🏻
Love the hand trick. I have a similar yet different issue. I'm hiking, then after I have taken some shots... one of the children seems to always want to take a picture. I handle that by taking a picture of them between mine and theirs.

I really appreciate this video. I think that all things in life change, you don't always get what you want or expect. But you take what life gives you and make the best of it. The images are beautiful, even if they aren't what you were hoping for when you set out.
Always interesting to see, that conditions aren't always good. And awesome to see how you adapt to it. I've experienced that recently. I'm about to move, and still try to get a decent "memory" shot of my current city. And now I have some free time, and have scouted some places from which I might be able to get a decent shot. But conditions are so bland recently... The sky has either been grey in grey or simply blue with sunsets without any interesting color... Well, you can't change the weather... Maybe I'll have some luck this weekend...
Besides getting to see my fiance, coming home to watch this is what gets me through Wednesday work shifts. Thank you for inspiration and entertainment!

Thanks for this video today, I really needed to see that this whole thing sometimes frustrates you as well. I spent the past 4 days backpacking through the Eastern Sierras with my camera and came away with almost nothing to show for it. I'll be making a video of it in the coming weeks, but because there's only a single ok image, I'm less than enthusiastic about editing together that video. So thanks for showing us that you too are sometimes disappointed in what you're able to capture.
Born and raised in West Yorkshire, a stone's throw from here. I do get a little homesick watching your treks, Thomas. In a good way. Mud. Cold. Rain. Ah, the sounds, smells, and solitude. Good stuff. I swapped it for Canada, and Niagara Falls. Which is beautiful, and I love exploring it most weekends, but... it's not the Lake District.
I was at Crummock water for my first solo camping and photography trip last Thursday...was just about to start my video editing of trip and thought I would watch your latest video for inspiration and boom you were at the same place! I am def inspired now!
It's funny how one photographers "hard time" could be anothers "good time". Having read the title to this video it preempts the headspace Tom found himself. I too like so many have been here and will be here again all too soon, but I watched the first few seconds of this videos and got a whole 7 seconds in and thought that the roadway, valley and tree would be a good starting point for a decent composition. Quite possibly it is me looking upon a UK common rural scene with southern hemisphere eyes and if Tom was in my corner of the world would be all excited for the new photographic subject before him. If you could bottle that adrenaline rush you get when you enter a new area into your everyday life you'd be raking it in! :)
Haha, I was laughing so much about the noises in the video. First you in the water every step you take, then the sheep in the backround. Nice video as always. What a pity for the light at the boat... Such a nice scenery
Just a little advice here.. I also used to shoot a "hand image" to conclude a sequence. Sometimes I would even go as far as to put my lensecap on for an image. However, I started to realize that its easier if I use the rate-button on my Canon. Nowadays I always tap the rate once at the last image of a sequence and so I can clearly see in Lightroom, photoshop and even in the EOS import program, where my panos end and the next sequence starts.
Quite a good scene. Something to look at when you are in a big busy city and wish you were there. I notice that you have quite a few home comforts? Go on, really rough it....

You certainly capture the romance of landscape photography as a way of life. Really nice video! One small thought about the abandoned boat. Perhaps since the boat is a relic, it should be a bit blurry. Getting closer with a wide angle might accentuate the motion blur.
Thanks for yet another video that makes me want to get in the van and get out there RIGHT NOW! Also this black and white blurry boat image gives me motivation to go for such shots despite wind and movement... I've abandoned so many shots for this before. Hey Thomas! Love your photography and the channel. Would it be possible for you to put the ISO/Aperture/Shutter Speed values under the photos when you show them in the video? It would help me, and probably everyone else who is trying to learn photography, a lot as I'm still trying to understand what settings to use in different situations.

I was struck by the contrast of your hike up the open grassy slopes, compared to your hike through the trees in the Cascades (my neighbourhood) and your bear sighting. Nice to see that you still have your long handled spoon.
I must admit to really liking the black and white boat photo. Surprised you didn't choose one with more of the sunset light for the last photo though. Obviously the light wasn't right. Beautiful spot though. Looking forward to seeing it with snow :-)

I think that boat scene is great. You shot exactly what I was thinking. However, I think it could use a little more contrast. Brighten those whites up a bit make the boat pop a little more

I love you videos Thomas. They are top dollar. The thing that makes them for me is the outdoor lifestyle, and the overnight wild camping.. Apart from the epic photography,that's what really interests me. I'm moving to the UK soon from a country where we overnight camp a lot in the bush. One thing that bothers me continuously when watching your videos, is that you are always eating out of what looks like single use instant food plastic bags. Are you aware of the problems of single use plastic bags? Or do you think recycling it will make it go away? Convenience is killing the planet - please look into alternative ways of storing food. I've been using that exact hand trick for years myself too. it REALLY REALLY helps!

Would you ever focus stack/blend a high shutter speed photo to get a sharp boat with a long exposure of the mid-ground water and background hills/sky?

This flat water slowly starts to look old school for my taste, i like the natural look much better.
I use the auto stack option in Lightroom and it does a fairly good job of organising this type of image. Why not try it out?
