      Yes! Listen, if we don't ask we may never know. There are still some questions I wish I would've asked my preceptors while I was a student. luckily I work with friends that don't judge ya girl lol but as a student you should ask everything and make mistakes because you have someone there to teach you before you are out doing things on your own.

    Hello! I applied to 11 programs this application cycle. I switched from premed to CAA, and I'm glad to find your channel. I have a few questions if you don't mind:
    1. Did you shadow an anesthesiologist or CAA? I only shadowed an anesthesiologist for 8 hours in July this year.
    2. Did you take grad loans? (I'm super nervous to move by myself to another state and idk if the grad loans will be sufficient to make ends meet 😢)
    3. What were your stats while applying to programs? Like did you take the GRE or the MCAT? and what percentile were you?
    4. The part about microaggressions (I'm a poc too): Do you feel like these things are more prevalent in states like Texas as supposed to Florida? My mom is making me consider this though she's not a CAA (she's a doctor) and doesn't understand the career well, so I NEEDED to find someone like you to give me some insight.
    5. Did you feel like if you reported some of these instructors you get kicked out of the program? I have a no bs attitude and will report/sue whoever needs to be gone, so I would like to know what's the culture like in these small programs so I can prepare myself mentally before the real thing.
    6. Blunt question: Is the pay as good as they make it sound? I hear ridiculous numbers left and right so I wanted to know if it was 100% true.
    Thanks! 🙂

    • @Farrenamara
      @Farrenamara  ปีที่แล้ว +12

      1. I applied during the pandemic and the hospitals in NC were shut down so most schools allowed a waiver for this. At the time, only 8 hours were required so you should be good but be sure to double check each school’s requirements.
      2. Yes, I maxed out the loans lol I couldn’t afford to pay anything out of pocket. The grad loans will be sufficient just create a budget for yourself and make sure not to live in a dangerous area but also let the rent be affordable, consider roommates with other people in the program you get into. Mainly: STICK TO THE BUDGET.
      3. I took the GRE and I don’t remember what percentile I was in but I remember just meeting the qualifications that the school required in each section. I barely made it though, I remember that much lol
      4. Honestly, I think it will be the same wherever we go. This career field is predominantly white and/or Asian. I am basing this perspective on my personal experience. In my class, there were only 2 black girls in the whole class including myself and in the class below mine 1 black female, 1 black male. In the class below them.. I believe another total of 2 black people. Until we start filling the seats/rooms…we are in micro aggression city.
      5. No, you won’t be kicked out. I recommend reporting them as well as confronting them to cover all bases (keep your receipts) and make sure that you are being professional on all accounts. Some instructors may try to make it harder for you so…KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS! Be prepared for all the bs at all times.
      6. The pay is ridiculous but true. When I started the program, competitive was $160k, by mid second year it was $180k and today it is 180k-250k. However, you really have to consider what type of hospital you want to work in like level 1 trauma or level 3/4? Taxes are ew. There are a lot of other factors to consider besides the pay.

      @@Farrenamara Thank you so much for taking the time to answer all of my questions! I have gotten rejected from 4 programs out of 11 so far and no interview offers so far lol (applied to most of them in September 2023) Those 4 have told me that they can't offer individual feedback because of the large amount of applicants who applied this cycle. That only means that getting into CAA school is as competitive as med schools now, but the cohort is way smaller (20ish people or so).
      Again, thank you so much! and good luck with your TH-cam journey and your brilliant career ahead ♥

    Hi thank you for taking the time to make this informative video. I took physics, BioChem and calculus in undergrad. These were the courses I struggled with the most. In CAA school , would you say that any of these prereqs translate to the program? Did you have to revisit these subjects? Because math is not my strong suit, so I wanted to know if these subjects translate in the program and in the career.

    • @Farrenamara
      @Farrenamara  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi, thank you for watching my video ♥️. Most of the math is changing concentrations. We dilute drugs everyday for regional blocks and just for common administration (ex: epi, phenylephrine, ephedrine, norepi) also need to be able to calculate how much drug to give based on patients body weight/ideal body weight, what is their appropriate tidal volumes (basic multiplication). I wouldn’t say calculus is really called upon but there’s definitely math. I also think the course requirements are difficult because they want to see how you perform taking challenging courses.
