The part that's genius is the idea to use simple pipes to create toy, admired by thousands on the internet. Turning multiple simple things into complex design is exactly what engineering is about.

Hmm... I think I want to make some edits on this design, and make it a lot more fun.
1. Move the trigger to below the weapon.
2. Add a hand grip and shoulder rest so it's more like a rifle
3. Rework the loading system a bit, for easier quick loading. (I'm thinking a bolt-action system)
4. Add a rail for scope mounting.
When I get to building this edited device I'll make a video on it and post it on this channel.
The firing mechanism is amazing though! It's a great Idea!

ball bearing, deer slug, potato, buck shot (would need wadding), battery (whatever size best fits the caliber of the air gun, could wrap in electrical tape for a tighter fit), dry ice, regular ice (could use pipe or create a mold to make it the right size), wooden dowel, wax or candle, gummy projectile

Use a smaller diameter barrel with a bit of sponge behind the paintball to get a better seal. You may want to scale back the power a little though as it runs the risk of breaking the paintball upon firing (Though this risk is greatly reduced by using the sponge as I mentioned)
Fire a model-rocket with it. Maybe ad a firework effect explosive tip on it.
Oh use the dart making method from the blowgun video for sonic blaster darts
