    Hey, Tobias, great video! I was wondering what are the indicators to understand if you need the USB hub or not?

    • @TobiasHolenstein
      @TobiasHolenstein  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Augustas! Honestly I don't technically know how to tell which mics will need the USB hub or not. But after testing this method out with and without the USB hub with different mics, all I can really say is it seems like cheaper inexpensive mics can be used without the USB hub, but the mics that are a bit more expensive (and heavier) seem to need the USB hub. My advice would be to first try it out without the USB hub and just the OTG adapter, because if it works then you don't need to buy the USB hub and if it doesn't work or you get some bad audio with distortion or something, then you probably need the USB hub. Hope that helps!

    Thanks for the helpful video. One question. Does the integrity of the audio on the USB mic transfer to the the iPhone or iPad? Would it sound the same as it does on PC or Mac. Thanks. I do my current recordings on a Mpow headset and it sounds pretty good but I’m just wondering if switching to an usb Moano like you showed us would improve the audio from a USB mic.

    • @TobiasHolenstein
      @TobiasHolenstein  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So from what I understand, I believe that the integrity of the audio should transfer fine. With USB mics, the sound card is built into the mic, which is what converts the analog signal to digital information. The only thing is, I suppose an app or program can affect the audio. Like if it adds compression or something to the audio. I haven't personally experienced a problem like this, but it could be a possibility.

    Need help! Great Video! I subscribed to your channel! I followed your above method and finally got my external mic working with my iPhone! Thank you! Question: are there any EQ apps you would recommend for my iPhone so I can adjust my voice quality BEFORE speaking into the iPhone video camera? I don't want to rely on my post production EQ in Premiere Pro only. When you spoke into your Maono mic it sounded so clean and condensed, but mine does not. My Sudotack ST800 USB condenser mic is very good (it seems exactly like your Maono). It sounds great when I speak into my computer because I can perfect the EQ in Premiere Pro before speaking. But the computer's camera sucks, which is why I need my iPhone camera, but I can't EQ my voice in an iPhone :-( Or can I? Huge thanks!!!!

    • @TobiasHolenstein
      @TobiasHolenstein  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Al, I see what you are saying. I have a suggestion, but unfortunately it isn't a direct fix for what you are trying to do. When you are recording with the iphone camera, I don't think there is a way to eq the audio as you record. For the purpose of what you are trying to do, I was thinking maybe it would be easier to record your audio with your microphone on your computer and record your video separately on your iphone. Then you can sync up your audio with your iphone video in Premier Pro. It is quite easy, you just select both your recorded audio clip and video clip, right click and select synchronize. I hope that helps!

    Thanks for the video. I'm a bit confused about the extra hardware you are using to complete your setup. I have the camera adapter and plug the usb cable from the yeti into it and then plug the lightning end into the phone. That light on the yeto goes on. So it appears that the iphone has enough power to power the yei without using the extra plugs/hub etc. Just wondering why you needed to use the hub with the plug in for power to get the yeti to work? Seems like it is just a simple connection from the yeti to the camera adapter and right in the phone? Again, my yeti powers up just by connecting to the iphone without any other power source.

    • @TobiasHolenstein
      @TobiasHolenstein  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your Yeti is working fine with just the OTG adapter then by all means just use the OTG adapter. I did not have that experience when I plugged my Yeti straight into my iPhone with the OTG adapter. My Yeti would light up too but when I tried to record with it, it would sound like it had a bunch of static and then it would revert back to the built in mic on my phone. When I used the USB hub it worked fine.

      @@TobiasHolenstein Thanks! I was just wondering what I was missing. I need to make some recorded videos and started to experiment with my yeti today. Very useful info! I have a mic which has a usb. I am able to use a usb camera adaptor and connect to the phone however if I want to record a song on GarageBand for example headphones are necessary. How would I use my headphones? Is there another adaptor I could use or would wireless ear phones work you think?

    With the USB hub, are we able to connect 2 microphones?

    • @TobiasHolenstein
      @TobiasHolenstein  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't tried it with 2 mics, but with this specific USB hub that I am using, I don't think it will work because only one of the USB ports receives power from the power cable

    Hello I was wondering if the otg adapter would also work with the MAONO USB Microphone AU-902??

    • @TobiasHolenstein
      @TobiasHolenstein  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally have not tried it, so I am not sure if it will also need the powered usb hub
      Edit: My advice would be to try it with the OTG adapter and then if it doesn't work, then you will probably need a powered USB hub

    It does work for normal voice record on the phone. But, cannot run audio while using the mic.

    Thanks for the video! With the original USB to Lightning, the one that accepts the AC charger, do I still need a powered USB hub? Thanks.

      I'm actually not sure about that one. I just recently became aware of those adapters and I'm not sure if they supply the necessary power
