Here I am a month or so after first watching this video and though Jacobs efforts have a fully working studio set up. Thanks SO much. A fan forever my friend.
Just tried this with my USB-c hub (non removable cable type) old iPhone 11 Pro, Apple camera adapter, and a USB 3.1 Type C (female) to USB 3.1 Type A male, and it worked without any problems. Of course the whole thing just works on my iPhone 15, without the need for any dongles or adapters.
Dude when I search for this video I really didn’t have any expectations on reach somethn useful, but you literally just answer my question, great video!
Amazing video… been looking for definitive answers to DJing with my iPhone (as a backup to my MacBook and Traktor) and I’ve found a few that use the usb camera adapter to connect external storage OR a portable DJ controller… but I couldn’t find anything that went into detail about using hubs to connect an interface, storage and charging all at the same time. You’ve explained this perfectly. Thank you.
Thanks, I’ve been trying to record into (lightning) iPad and have been watching tons of videos on how to hook it up, no one out of all videos I watched mentioned anything about that lightning splitter dongle. Was pretty sure I needed it but no one verified it. Thanks again

But at least there's a solution. Thanks! (And I love my M1 iPad with USB-C. I got so sick of dealing with lightning on my previous iPad. Now I've essentially got something I can treat like a laptop when I want to. Just waiting for devs to start using the M1 capacity more effectively....)
Wow, Jakob…I love lightning. ❤️ My whole (old) iOS world is run by lightning. I still love you, man, and you’ll always have a special place in my heart…but maybe we should take a little break, think things over. 🤔🤔🍺🎩
Thanks for the great info! I’ve got an iPad Pro, first generation. It still works great! I was having problems breaking out and into my Mac mini, but recently bought an Arturia MiniFuse 2, and le voila, it works! I’m singing with Bleass Voices, what a wonder!!! Want to get a more modern Pro soon, but right now, it’s ll good! Thanks again for all your work!
As usual, great video. I, too, am using the Apple dongles with my iPads. I just bought a Mac mini (M2) to replace my old iMac that is stuck on MacOS El Capitan because Apple stopped supporting my computer a few years ago. I bought a USB hub that comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable to attach to the mini. The USB-A and USB-C ports on the hub are recognized by the computer but I haven't yet figured out how to check data transfer speeds. At least everything seems to be working. BTW, I do not do any music production on the computer although I eventually plan on producing videos on it from my iOS music.
I came to this video looking for a way to use a USB-C hub (ethernet, HDMI, usb ports, PD etc.) with my 7th gen iPad that has a Lightning port. It's very frustrating to know that I can't use this hub with my iPad unless I get the official Lightning to USB adapter. I also have a lot of those small converter/adapters like the USB-C to USB-A. I am hoping you were able to try that out and see if it works. Thank you for making this video as well since I was spending a lot of time researching this to see if it would work.
I have had the chance of trying one of those converters and it did work. So the hub connects to the converter and then the converter plugs into the Lightning adapter. I ordered the cheapest one I could find on Amazon. I’ve already checked and the one I ordered isn’t available anymore (these listings change too quickly). But I’m sure you can find a similar converter. Try it and let me know how it goes.
Good video! I totally agree. Your second setup works well but in my opinion Apple stuck too long to lightning. I hope this will change. Another annoying thing are the support of hubs. It works well as long as you dot use a second monitor. Now I use an Apple adapter for this. But spending money for hubs is not my goal. My setup works now, but it is not really mobile.
I’ve done some research into external monitors, hubs and iOS and the results are so confusing. A lot of contradictory information and I get why consumers are annoyed. I wish This was more straight forward, especially when buying hubs. But it’s really like taking a gamble with every purchase.
Ty so much bro. Question bro. 1. Where do u connect ur charger? On the dongle, uni hub or both? Since IPhone need charger, and the device on uni hub need charger too. 2. Can we connect portable display, mouse and keyboard on the hub and use it all? Since I usually do ms office on their website.
How big is that SSD that you’re trying to get to show up on your iPhone? I bought a SanDisk 2 TB SSD from Amazon and it says that it’s “too much power” for my iPhone X an iPad mini 5. I haven’t tried using that Uni adapter, 8-in-1though. I have a USB A/camera/micro usb to Lightning adapter and that’s connected to the power outlet and my SanDisk ssd. Am I doing something wrong, how else can I get it to show up on my iPhone without this uni set up?
Hi! Great video! It really worked. I´ve end up using a PD usb C hub not detached cable but with a good USB-c to USB-A adapter dongle before the USB to Lightning work just fine. At least for now, until I could have a newer Ipad with usbc, Im ok. Thanks for video
So could you use the wider apple dongle and just plug in a usb-c charger into the wall without the hub? Like plug the dongle into the iPad/iPhone and then plug the usb-a end into the dongle and plug the usb-c end cable to a keyboard or mouse for example and then plug in a usb-c charger into the usb-c dongle input and charge it straight to an outlet in the wall? Or would you still need a 65 watts charging block?
I went out and bought everything you recommended and official Cck using lightning wont charge an ipad 9 out of the UNI hub even when using the apple 97w you recommend powering the hub. It will charge an iphone out of the UNI but an ipad would need the lightning port of the cck to a separate adapter thus killing half the benefit. I think best and cheaper for ipad is cck with the og power supply and a 4 port usb hub for audio interface, midi and external storage.
And what cables do you use for a midi interface (or audio interface). Actually what important good quality cables you use and need altogether for your essential iPhone (iOS) music production
First off.. this video is spot on, in my personal experience. And in general: great content, sir This question may be a bit specific for the set up I’m using.. but maybe you good people can help me on my way. I had used an Anker USB A hub (with attached cable) for connecting a MC-101 and a Arturia Microlab to my Iphone SE (1 and 2) but I haven't tested using the USB-C one with an adapter. Edit: I did a quick test using a UGreen USB C hub plugged into a Baseus C to A adapter and that plugged into a USB3 to Lightning Apple adapter and at least it recognizes usb drives and midi keyboards. #donglehell
Would the USB3 adapter shown deliver power only to the phone, or to the devices plugged into the hub as well? I am trying to find a way to power devices from the hub with a power bank and don’t know where in the chain the power bank should be plugged in.
The rumors are that when USB-C comes to the iPhone, they’re still going to require devices to pass the MFi certification check. Take that with the usual rumor caveats, though.
I need connecting an apogee jam interface, a charger and a midi controller to my old iPad Air 1. Don't really understand which is the best solution in this context.

For the last bit, it works with the cck, but looks ridiculous. I have one of those small c to a adapters (from Anker, not kjell), and a LNQ dongle from Elgiganten.
They just dropped the iPhone 15 today. They say it’s as powerful as a high end laptop. If that’s true, then let me use it like a desktop through a hub.
Is it possible to use the Union Pro USB-C 8 in 1 hub for audio? To connect like an USB adapter to 3.5mm headphone jack? Or do I need an external class compliant audio interface via USB?
@@JakobHaq En till fråga! Går det att koppla in en Motu M4 till UNI-hubben? Den behöver en powered USB-Hub för phantom power, så jag borde kunna koppla in en power bank i UNI för det eller?
I HAVE A NEW IPHONE 15 PRO MAX: I HAVE A NEW SET OF HEAD PHONES THAT FIT MY IPHONE 11 PRO MAX - BUT NOT THE IPHONE 15 PRO MAX! what adaptor do I need? Please and thanks.
I never link to cables because these links become outdated and non-functional in just a few months. Companies that make these products are constantly changing their products, switching them out for new versions and discontinuing older ones. So it’s hard to recommend anything. . It’s a problem because this all happens within a few months, while properly testing a cable and reviewing them takes just as long. I don’t want to mislead my audience by recommending stuff I haven’t tested 😅 . Ok so I’ve been testing “Baseus Tungsten Gold USB-A to Lightning” cables and so far they’re great. However I’ve only been using them for a month or so and lightning cables usually show issues after at least 6 months has past, if they’re of low quality. . What I like about the “Baseus Tungsten Gold USB-A to Lightning” cables are how solid they feel (which means nothing). They’re not too thick and too stiff even though they’re wrapped in some sort of braided Kevlar. The connectors look gorgeous and it seems that the connector housings are made out of metal. However it could just be metallic paint coating too. . If you can find them then they seem like a good option. But I won’t know how good they really are until months from now. Buy at own risk. That goes for anyone of these cables. Even though I’ve tested these things for over a decade, I still find it hard to know what to get. I completely understand your frustration.
This shit is so annoying. I have like 17k photos ive been trying to offload of my phone but because i dont have an apple laptop and everything i was having serious issues getting these photos offloaded. This issue is going to be why I end up ditching apple on my next upgrade.

USB C to A dongle does work, I used the offical apple camera adapter with charge port yet you'll have to probably flip the usb C connector if your noticing no connection. referanced one of your older vids about flipping the cable :p th-cam.com/video/sZptWTyWEmI/w-d-xo.html

hey my ipad wont update the 1.05 firmware update for the adapter. i get the prompt and select ok but nothing happens… please help me
Can I transfer 4k videos from iphone 14 pro max to harddisk r pendrive with that cable
THANK YOU
The hdmi Port on usbc adapt works? I need conect The Tv tô My ipad 9.
For the last bit, it works with the cck, but looks ridiculous. I have one of those small c to a adapters (from Anker, not kjell), and a LNQ dongle from Elgiganten.
Thanks for the info! 👍
Please does the lightening to usb3 second port (type c) work for data transfer or it only charges the iphone?
@@olawalehandel Sorry, I don’t have that one so I can not tell for sure, but from what I’ve heard it does only support power.
Thanks 😊 for your response
Question, I am blind and could really use a bigger screen.Does anyone know if this will work with H DMI as welbias audio interfaces?
What if you just get a usb hub with a USB A cable, and then use a lightning converter?
Like I said in the video. It will not work.
how about iphone 15 and iphone 15 pro ?
They just dropped the iPhone 15 today. They say it’s as powerful as a high end laptop. If that’s true, then let me use it like a desktop through a hub.
Did u ever get this device? It seems very possible
Probably
For the idea at the end.. no they don’t work I tried.
Is it possible to use the Union Pro USB-C 8 in 1 hub for audio? To connect like an USB adapter to 3.5mm headphone jack? Or do I need an external class compliant audio interface via USB?

I HAVE A NEW IPHONE 15 PRO MAX: I HAVE A NEW SET OF HEAD PHONES THAT FIT MY IPHONE 11 PRO MAX - BUT NOT THE IPHONE 15 PRO MAX! what adaptor do I need?
Please and thanks.
Will a USB A hub work with iPad ??
here in brazil the big dongle costs R$400,00, a little more than 40 bucks lol
After 10 years of lightning I’ve had a new iPad Pro.
And nothing bloody works, whole new collection of adaptors to be bought.
Apple just love to make their sexy devices to dongle up.
Can you put a link for a legit iPhone cable. I don’t know what cable to get or what type
I don’t want to mislead my audience by recommending stuff I haven’t tested 😅
.
@@JakobHaq thanks Jakob 👍this was real helpful

Fuckyeahhhhh this guy kicks ass
that hub does not appear to be available any longer.
Sure it is. But Amazon listings disappear all the time. Try their website instead uniaccessories.com/en-au/collections/union
Rumors say that USB-C will be comming on the next iphone. I hope that it is true
This shit is so annoying. I have like 17k photos ive been trying to offload of my phone but because i dont have an apple laptop and everything i was having serious issues getting these photos offloaded. This issue is going to be why I end up ditching apple on my next upgrade.
I feel your pain
If your hub has attached wire you can probably use a C to A adapter to dongle. What a mess... Apple please just get rid of this annoying port already!
I’m testing that next and I’m sure it will look amazing. The dongle hub combo I mean. It will be glorious 😂
If one can afford an apple product they can afford the proper dongle/adapter.
We all hate dongles. They're the worst.
I love how you cut to the chase, Jakob. "Yup, we're back to this stupid sh*t." Couldn't agree more. I'm still stuck with a (North American) iPhone 13 with a lightning connection.
USB C to A dongle does work, I used the offical apple camera adapter with charge port yet you'll have to probably flip the usb C connector if your noticing no connection. referanced one of your older vids about flipping the cable :p th-cam.com/video/sZptWTyWEmI/w-d-xo.html
