      I caught that too. He totally changed his tune just to fit his nonsense explanation of the height.
      Also he doesn’t understand the actual benefit of high box jumps which is used by sprinters like me

      Ikr when I box jump 53.5”, I actually have to generate as much power to jump up as high as possible, plus also bring my knees to my chest & then I’m actually accomplishing something. Also, the video is obviously just wrong, and if you actually do better with a box to soften the impact from your own vertical when jumping off of flat, then you really have a problem with dropping off of anything. Not only are you supposed to be box jumping as high up as possible to get the maximum power possible, but you’re also supposed to learn how to drop from height, and definitely at least 3’ or probably more like 7’+ at some point.

    This make much sense if you want just to train your thighs and gluteus muscles. In my opinion if you correctly use high box jumps you can train a lot of muscle groups including all leg main muscles + TFL and core. I used them a lot as a sprinter in my workout routine.
    It just depends on your aims.
    I'm going to make few videos about box jumps basics and tips.

    It really depends on what you are applying it to. As a skateboarder, the importance of bringing your knees up as high and quickly as possible is a huge part of what we do. Using the same method in box jumping helps us when we are trying to go from a lower elevation to a higher one and where we will have to pull our body up from a squatting position.

    • @loma-uu5mg
      @loma-uu5mg 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I skate too, but this technique is also helpful in producing force.

    • @nabranestwistypuzzler7019
      @nabranestwistypuzzler7019 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ikr you can literally just use an even higher box (the starting one in this video was still low btw, so I just mean that relatively and not literally extremely high unless you’re at that skill level) so that you can’t just rely on bringing your knees to your chest and you have to actually also put in a lot of force plus bring your knees to your chest. Also, idk why everyone is making a big deal about dropping from practically nothing.

    I do parkour, aggressive inline skating, and skateboarding. So yeah I’m trying to jump as high off the ground as possible. Other sports, it’s not as important. I’m often trying to jump over or onto something. Box jumps helped me add a foot to that.

    Going off an old coach running boxing drills guy has a point and heres how it went for us.
    During course drills he had an assortment of boxes some low good sum mid and a couple highs. Whenever if ever someone were to take this stance as shown to hit the high boxes it was an indicator of one of two things;
    you were gased, you were bullshitting.
    One would lead to QA drills the other would get you kicked out and reason was because you needed to work on that burst of momentum from dry stance.
    No running and jump no stopping taking some stance then jump because your leaving yourself open for the hit.
    Hope that makes sense but if not just know its a tool for explosive clean fully planted jumps to get optimum benefit.

    • @nabranestwistypuzzler7019
      @nabranestwistypuzzler7019 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The worst possible thing that would happen is that you would get a shin scrape/sore by missing, slipping, and shinning yourself on the top edge of the box especially if it’s on metal, so you can just wear shin guards, but you should still eventually be able to do it and also just other jumps for whatever in box jumping, freerunning, tricking, or parkour in general without relying on shin guards.
      Also, you can vault and crane it first before actually sticking it with both feet and no vault.

    • @DimaPulls
      @DimaPulls 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do few steps before the jump, or a small jump right before the main one. Also make sure your toes are pointing up, so you'll meet the edge of the box with toes first. This should help to feel more confident and safe.
      I will make video tutorials with tips for this movement soon.

    But how should you land on the box? Hips below nees?

    • @marosmalcicky2147
      @marosmalcicky2147 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best is hips above knees. You should decelerate and take as much force as possible but it's kinda useless to go hips under your knees. This is ok only for very specific trainings for sprinting.....powerful extension fast flexion. When you train for max jump the landing is the best with hips above knees (soft landing).

    • @nabranestwistypuzzler7019
      @nabranestwistypuzzler7019 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maros Malcicky wtaf there’s no thing as deceleration. There’s only a such thing as accelerating in the negative direction.

    • @nabranestwistypuzzler7019
      @nabranestwistypuzzler7019 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ig, but you should probably learn how to bring your knees up and then go up a lot higher and still get maximum power ofc. And then besides that, also learn how to drop from height and safety roll.
      Example: When I box jump 53.5”, I actually have to generate as much power to jump up as high as possible, plus also bring my knees to my chest & then I’m actually accomplishing something. Also, I’m 16 years old and at least 5’8.5”

    it amazes me how crossfit uses plyometric principles in the pull up but doesn't when doing a box jump (plyometrics). Power output is not the goal of the exercise and the way people land on top of the box is irrelevant as well.

    • @DMGC529
      @DMGC529 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      " Power output is not the goal of the exercise and the way people land on top of the box is irrelevant as well" What are you talking about? The point is 100% force application and power. It is a power exercise. Landing mechanics are also crucial for athletes. Glad you aren't a coach. th-cam.com/video/vtV0WHR9ERU/w-d-xo.html

    it is not wrong. it is a variation to lift your knees up. and a great explosive abs workout. if you use higher box, you can maximize both legs and abs/core activation.

    You can pause it at 0:53 and see that his hips jumped way more than 6 inches.
    Then fast forward to 1:56, look at it and remember the jumper's hip height, and fast forward to 2:04 and you can see this coach is on crack.
    Fail video.

  • @lukeshoemaker3983

    WTF "you're doing it wrong?"
    This dude's form is suboptimal - he's looking straight in front of him - the "core" muscles of the cervicis are hyperextended at take-off, impinging suboccipital nerve C1-2. Some tests would show 30% reduction in power supply to the diaghrapm (strongest core muscle).
    Vision should ALWAYS remain perpendicular to your vertebral line. When you're standing tall, vision is perpendicular. When you bend over, so should your vision. You can still be athletic by maintaining a neutral synchrony between C-spine and T-spine, by looking up at your forehead.
