He's completely out of place in this. David Simon used to make journalistic scripted dramas with a documenterian approach. No star actors, just people delivering the material with genuine acting. Bernthal is trying to put his Hollywood performance above the entire show. It makes the whole show look fake.
Jon Bernthal plays the most grittiest toughest hard core characters in movies but he's like the most down to earth sweetest guy in real life gotta love it.

Really? The dialogue, especially the slang and accents, is very familiar, but the pacing is very different and more stylized with the time jumps. The editing and lighting also strikes me as more cinematic compared to the gritty realism of the wire. Just my 2 cents
This show is nothing like The Wire. Everything about seems forced. The Wire had a smooth natural flow that captured the streets. This show lacks all of the charm and character of The Wire.
Finally a true follow up to The Wire. Absolutely spectacular and jaw-dropping, especially considering that this is a true story. Jon, Wunmi and Dagmara absolutely stealing with their performances as well. We want more Simon and Pellecanos!
I don't think we should look at it like that. This seems to be focusing more on police brutality part. We will for sure get what we saw in the Wire regarding things that contribute to these problems. This is based on a book by Justin Fenton, who like David Simon, was a Baltimore Sun cops and courts reporter for years. It's cut from the same fabric in part by the same people, should really be top notch.

I was living in Winchester St. in Baltimore when all this went down, and was living in Park Heights when Sean Suiter committed suicide. This series is only 6 episodes, but I swear it can easily go two seasons with 10 + episodes each.

As the show is obviously about black people vs police, can you tell me if the show is a BLM love letter or it shows both sides equally? I love series like the Wire, Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, but I hate that almost all shows on HBO, Netflix, Amazon and other platforms are written to cather to "left" audience, to the levels that makes me don't want to watch it, because of the sick agenda.

It's grounded in reality, and so naturally it has both bad and good characters on all sides that actually existed. Judging by your comment it might be good for you to watch it

Oh man I just saw the promo for this. Jon Bernthal is the PERFECT person to cast as a lead actor in this kind of show. I saw him for the first time on The Walking Dead and thought he was great . I haven't watched The Punisher yet but plan to watch it as some point. I miss The Wire a lot so if this series is even half as good it should be a hit.
Looking back to daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke cage, iron fist and punisher, to me, my eyes are always set on the punisher. He doesn't need the super abilities, but he'll make sure you face the his wrath. Among the marvel shows, he was the best watch.
Wow. After this trailer i started to think, that this is prequel for The Walking Dead. Where we realize why Shane is so brutal and rough. But maybe at 0:04 he tried to say that he is the freaking Punisher, and they'd better not put him in jail.
Bravo HBO for taking the Wire and moving on to an even bigger story. This city is raw and dangerous but the people are real and the city has its beauty and lots of it. You just have to find it. I’ve lived here a 1/3 of my life and I just don’t see me leaving.

Wow. After this trailer i started to think, that this is prequel for The Walking Dead. Where we realize why Shane is so brutal and rough. But maybe at 0:04 he tried to say that he is the freaking Punisher, and they'd better not put him in jail.

Bravo HBO for taking the Wire and moving on to an even bigger story. This city is raw and dangerous but the people are real and the city has its beauty and lots of it. You just have to find it. I’ve lived here a 1/3 of my life and I just don’t see me leaving.

Looks like HBO is about to drop another great show, while my Netflix account that I pay $20+ for a month rarely ever has a show worthwhile to keep my subscription open for. Once Ozark and Stranger things are over with, they better start getting some new quality shows or it's goodbye to that overpriced platform.
