@@jbaxter34 actually it's not, since the news reporter mentioned "two 18 wheelers" set off the chain reaction, but then said a car likely hydroplaned.. the blame already trying to be put on the trucks, when it's more than likely not the case. Folks drive way too fast all the time, and especially drive too fast in the rain. So it's NOT too soon, maybe somebody will take the advice, and an accident can be prevented.

People follow so closely on the highway, not even a car's length while driving over 70mph. I am surprised that more of these chain crashes don't happen more frequently.
Driving is a privilege, not a right. If you cannot understand the purpose of a proper following distance, then I am sorry but you need to get a ride to the nearest driver facility and surrender your drivers license.
    You will kill somebody someday.

Julius Caesar taught us how to avoid this kind of stuff. He declared it illegal for commercial carts to be on the roads during normal awake hours. We need to do the same, all 18-wheelers and cargo trucks can only be on civilian roads after 10pm and before 6am. That gives them 8 hours of travel time per day.

This is so sad. I can hardly stand driving anymore because everyone is sooo impatient and tailgate me til I nearly have a panic attack. Even in the rain... most don't even slow down. I know we're all busy and have places we have to be but we need to sloooow it down a bit... and we need to remember we don't know whos driving near us... how skilled they are at driving, the condition of their vehicles, etc. Tailgating a little grandma or new driver is dangerous... if people can go faster they usually will and if someone in front of you is going slow they probably have a reason and shouldn't feel forced to go faster because of aggressive drivers. I get impatient too but I've been trying to remind myself of these things and remember that you never know what's going on with others or their vehicles... and getting wherever I'm going late is better than not getting there at all. Prayers for all involved. RIP ♡

Driver's don't understand stopping distances. They never consider that they may need to make an emergency stop. When you're driving 80mph and there's only one car link between your car and the car in front of you, there's no way you can bring your car to a stop without hitting the car in front of you during a sudden stop. I have seen plenty of dead deer on the highways. When a deer try to cross in front of you your natural response is to slam on the brake. There's no way the car behind you will stop in time to avoid a rear end.

I’m a new teen driver and the first day I went on a drive this lady in a Jeep Grand Cherokee was tailgating me and went around me on a double yellow road. I don’t understand what rush you are in? Like some people don’t care that they see student driver in the car, even though they were a student driver themselves at one point. A lot of people are in a rush to go nowhere. A lot of people don’t know where they are going to both on the highway and local roads. I see many drivers who make risky last minute decisions that could get themselves killed or someone else. I realized basically everything I learned in drivers ed and in driving school is useless in real world driving. It seems most people don’t know driving laws. I think in America they make it WAYYY to easy to get a license. Honestly most people out here driving should not be on the roads. I think every 3-5 there should be some kind of evaluation, to test your driving knowledge/skills. Just like your job (healthcare, education, etc) you have to be tested on your knowledge every couple of years.

Every 4th person I see (including police and semi-drivers) driving in the opposite direction has their eyes down in their lap looking at what the internet has to offer at 75 mph. 🚫🚫🚫

It's even worse because they tend to do it in packed traffic while on someone's bumper, instead of at a stoplight or when they're on a straight by themselves.

People in Washington state are trained to know that after a few dry days, there is an accumulation of oil on the road. So, rain after dry days means risk of hydroplaning. So drive slowly and don't tailgate.
