    I fish the Salmon and Clearwater rivers religiously for steelhead and salmon. It has taken more than a decade to learn some of the secrets of the trade. (still learning) This is by far the most instructional and helpful video i have watched as it relates to fishing steelhead on the Clearwater. For those looking to get into steelhead fishing make sure to watch this video in its entirety. Bravo on a great video!

    The main Clearwater is great for those who have boats. The South Fork is smaller and is an equally awesome opportunity for bank and wading fisherman.

    Does the Idaho clear water river hold any salmon or catfish?

    • @melstottlemyre1863
      @melstottlemyre1863 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +josue nuno Yes. The Clearwater has a really good Spring Chinook Salmon fishery that starts in late April/Early May and will go in to the first week of June, all depending on harvest quota met.

    Clearwater River headwaters is in Montana?? That’s odd. The continental divide is the border between Montana and Idaho. Any River that starts in Montana flows east to the Missouri, Mississippi , Gulf of Mexico!

    In Idaho You can only keep wild steelhead. Fin clipped fish have to be returned.

    • @chadcorbridge3636
      @chadcorbridge3636 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      reverse that

    • @williammawk1720
      @williammawk1720 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it is the other way around, you can keep clipped hatchery fish but you must release wild un-clipped fish.

    keep those unclipped fish in the water . no wonder its closed now terrible stewards of the river

    • @mikedecker7208

      The closure of Steelhead fishing on the Clearwater River has little to do with the removal from the water of those unclipped fish in the video and more about the lack of science and economic based fisheries management on the Columbia River. Unfortunately, both state's Fish and Wildlife commissions (Oregon and Washington) continue to be strangely influenced by the spring Chinook Salmon gillnetting interests on the lower Columbia River, over the recreational/sportfishing community. Considering the huge positive economic differential provided by the recreational/sportfishing group (responsible for 200 to 400 times the amount of dollars contributed to the local economies.) as opposed to the commercial fishery, the negative impact caused by gillnetting salmon due to the significant numbers of ESA listed Steelhead destroyed as part of the by-catch, it is incomprehensible that gillnets have not yet been removed from the mainstem Columbia River in the six years since the bi-state group was formed.

      I meant why would you not eat it. I'm
      Not criticizing I'm seriously
      Asking if there's a code or
      Species, or season. Cause
      Thought the idea is to eat it.
      Only reason I fish.

    • @Dinko_B

      +ray bon The native fish have an adipose fin and the hatchery fish get there's clipped as juvenile fish before they head to the ocean. Legally you have to release all natives and you can keep hatchery steelhead/salmon.

      Oh ok. Darn shame I guess. You really almost
      Have to be a darn. Biologist. To fish today. It's gotten to the, point. I just stopped fishing. Cause size season species. It's just to much for me. Use to be- we functioned under the gentleman's rule. Throw anything smaller, than your hand back. Now you have to know species season. Something I use to love. Now I don't fish anymore. Cause admittingly. I'm not sure. Tell you the truth. Less with or around an expert. I am not keeping anything.

      You're joking...right ? Most of us fish for sport, not for food .
