The boat is absolutely stunning ❤. Those sails are beautiful, and the teak immaculate. She sails like a dream (30 degrees off the wind 😳). Congratulations !!!
She’s a beautiful boat - congrats 🙌 Was good to see Ludvig working happily in this sea trial, he’s my man too - I am waiting patiently in the queue for my 340 to be completed next year. All the best for your adventures getting over to the Meds and I’m sure more to come.
@@meerec I can’t say enough nice things about Ludvig . He is such a sincerely, wonderful guy. If you look at his face during the first sail, he was as excited as I was! Especially when we cleared those rocks!
@@sailinghaldis Yes, I find him exactly the same. My hull for the 340 is being completed in a month. So like you, I will be collecting her in Ellös, working with Ludvig at sea trials in April next year. I will also need help of Halcyon for the delivery of my 340 to Rotterdam. Any words of wisdom, tips, about this passage and Halcyon? Will appreciate …
@@meerec Congratulations! April will be a busy month! Halcyon was very easy to work with. I also used PYD for the big part of the trip, they were very good and quite a bit less expensive. Give some thought to what spares you will need. Ludvig spend 5 years with HR parts and should be about to help. Definitely have a new torx set on board as that’s HR’s standard screw. I imagine you’ll take a similar route as I did. Halcyon skipper should have knowledge of the Kiel canal locks, but truthfully it was easy. There was no communication aside from the lights. Will you have a Webasto? That was very necessary in June when it was very cold and wet. I imaging April will be quite cold at sea. Try to take your time and enjoy the trip. Make lots of stops. Now that it’s over, I wish I was back there doing it again!
@@sailinghaldis Thanks for all the tips. I’ll stick to Halcyon as my delivery is way shorter than yours // yes they are expensive a bit but I trust them, do not trust myself hahaha. The plus is I want to learn from them too. Yeah, I look forward to meeting Ludvig in person, he’s my guy!! No Webasto on board, we do not need heating in Australia !! So warm clothes and very warm sleeping bags (I used in Himalayas) will have to do the trick. Look forward to more of your reports from the Med, you’ve stopped posting to TH-cam // or maybe I’m just too impatient, I know it takes a lot to produce the videos and surely you’re busy enjoying the South of France … cheers!
I was going to mention in an earlier comment about getting used to touching the rocks as you pass though gaps in 20m of water, and here you go mentioning just that 😂 I’m intrigued by the inner forestay. Is this usually stowed back on the mast and then used for a storm sail? What’s its intended purpose? It’s rigged close to the forestay. The electric under deck foresail furler is wonderful until it goes wrong, but then I have memories of being sat out in front of the pulpit off Finisterre fixing a manual furlex, so maybe not a lot different. I have to admit to liking the idea of a permanently rigged bottom-up furling genaker/code 0/light wind sail of some cut, in front of the genoa for light winds downwind sailing ‘at the pull of a line’, if not push of a button 😊 BTW, quite _beautiful_ boat in an absolute sweet spot for size. Large enough to be roomy and allow genset, water maker etc., but not too large to be big. Love it ❤
The inner forestay is dyneema and stored at the mast. I have a Hank on white storm jib. I’ve only set it up in the Marina. It really needs to be pre-rigged. I thought about it for about five seconds in the Baltic and can say that setting it up in a rough sea state would be the last thing I’d want to do. The bow lacks good hand holds and feels pretty exposed. Breezy has a very wet bow!
Oh, so it _is_ for a storm jib @@sailinghaldis. Very close to the forestay rather than being further back, and as you say, by the time you want it, you don't really want to be up there. You would both need to hank-on ready for use, but also somehow store the storm jib until required. Did HR say anything about _how_ they would propose you use it? I'm sure it must be thought through, just trying to work out the actual usage 🤔
The quality of this sailboat is off the charts. We have been looking at others but it is so hard not to want an HR. One issue came to mind, about the emergency raft being stored in cockpit. I noticed in your recent North Sea episode that you took on a water in the cockpit during a storm. Could water in the cockpit cause the raft to inadvertently inflate?
Really nice and our favorite sailboat brand! -- QUESTION -- One issue we have is the reflexive "sailboat vs catamaran" debate. We hear from many who tell us you "must" by a catamaran. Can I ask what you answer is to this as I am sure it was a consideration for you too. Not sure why exactly, but we like sailboats more.
Thank you! 😊 That’s a personal decision but I never considered a catamaran. I’ve always been a sailboat guy. My “mission” is offshore cruising. In the last month we’ve sailed, motorsailed and motored 2600 NM. To do this in a catamaran, I would have to deal with 2 engines and mooring logistics. They certainly are bigger and more comfortable but remember they also come with a mandatory escape hatch on the bottom!!
Excellent episode! Most interesting to follow/see how thorough the handover process is. Which sailboat did you have before deciding on the HR? Also, which other sailboat brands did you consider? Licking my lips for your sailing videos! 😋
Thanks. I’m keen to see the whole of the stay sail setup. It seems to be set close to the jib. Do you have a working stay sail to use with it, or will it just be for a storm stay sail? Thanks. Lots of great options choices throughout. Well done. Regards, Rick.
That’s your working staysail. If you choose to buy one. I opted for a storm jib. It’s a good size. If adverse weather is a possibility, best option is to pre rig the inner forestay and hank on the sail, lashing it to the deck(you’ll need those fittings added).
Ayeyaya!! You’re the first person to point this out! I don’t know if it’s been sorted! The forestay is still intact! I will check on it when I return! Thank you! 😊

@@sailinghaldis anchoring near Barcelona is near to impossible. Maybe try some miles south around the ports of Vilanova, Garraf, Sitges. You could try north near Masnou or Mataró. However the prevailing winds, deep waters and marine traffic makes it difficult.

Hardtop nice in stormy weather and in tropics for shade, verygood choice😊
Agree! Hardtop is a game changer. Only downside is it’s a bit of a squeeze to get back into the cockpit in front of the pedestal.
Wow that sailed so well up that channel. Very impressive.
