@@David-cr3pt Well they were formed in the 90's and the first album came out in '98 and went gold by '99 and 4x platinum by 2001. Sure most of their work came out in the 2000's, but not bad for a first album.
Saw them live at a pool hall in early 1998 before most people even knew who they were and and still to this day, it was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to!
I saw them with STP years ago. It might be one of the best concerts I have seen as both bands lit it up. It might be as close to a perfect concert as I have seen (sans Weiland stripping nude on stage, which I didn't need to see).
There is nothing nonchalant about Godsmack when that bass and heavy guitar smack you in the face. They are the best of the time in my opinion. You have to check out whatever, moon baby and time bomb just to name a few 🤘🎸🎵🎵🎵

eh their own sound. which song sounds like alice in chains? and which alice in chains song sounds like godsmack? i understand their origins but doesnt sound like any alice in chains ive heard for the past 30 years
Been a huge fan of them since their first album. Saw them and metallica back in 04 and I don't need to say how awesome it was. Best concert I've ever been to.
Alice In Chains has a song called godmack. One of Godsmacks members said they got the name from the AIC song but the lead singer of Godsmack said it wasn’t and gave some weird story about how it came to be. They were influenced by AIC so it’s likely they got the name from the AIC song.
This album reminds me so much of being a child and first getting this on disc. This will always be my favorite album by them, and that solo is so smooth.
I can't remember what Godsmack songs you've reacted to, but these are a must... Crying Like A Bitch, Whatever, 1000hp, I Stand Alone, Straight Outta Line, Awake
Godsmack was so lit in my teens. Helped defined a whole time period for me. Gritty, no BS hard rock. And they do a hell of a live show as well. You guys should check out "Godsmack - Drum Battle HD - Sully Erna vs Shannon Larkin" live. A lot of your fellow reactors have done it already, and it's a hell of a performance. It's vocalist Sully (who's also a drummer) battling Godsmack drummer Shannon Larkin. Epic af. Edit: Oh yea, and that "grunginess" you're hearing in this song is called post-grunge. Grunge faded, but many bands adopted the sounds and technique. This is mostly noticeable in the mid-late '90s/early '00s and has largely been integrated into rock as a whole now. Godsmack would technically be classified as nu-metal/hard rock/post-grunge.
I still play this album on CD regularly. I have the album that openes the song "Bad Religion" with a snippet of a Kenneth Copeland sermon. Yeah I still have CD and most still play flawlessly.
They're named after an Alice in Chains song, Godsmack which addresses people's use of God's name as a drug and how that cheapens it to the point where it's not taken seriously basically. AIC had a farther reaching influence than a lot of people realize. Nirvana may have influenced the industry, but AIC influenced MUSIC.

been listening to Godsmack since WAAF 107.3 Boston (RIP WAAF 1970 - 2020) started playing them. WAAF was the first radio station to play Godsmack (it was only a demo song). after WAAF started to play them Godsmack then signed their first record deal....saw them for the first time in 99 at Woodstock and have seen them many many times since then.....AMAZING live show, Sully is an outstanding front man.....this song and Whatever are what got them signed
Can't talk too much shit about GODSMACK. They were pretty legit. Even if they glommed onto the Seattle vibe from all the way in Boston. Godsmack has a song called WHATEVER that, as a drummer, I LOVE playing along to. Whatever that does for y'all. See what I did there with the "whatevers"?
"Love,Hate,Sex,Pain'' .. is absolutly incredible. "Moon Baby'' slaps hard too. Also "One Rainy Day'' is a masterpiece but for some reason most people sleep on it.
Omg, I am so excited you are doing Godsmack 😍 They are amazing in concert!! Please react to Whatever and Crying Like A Bitch!! The video to Crying like a bitch is next level with a lot of MMA shots!!❤
Ok Godsmack concert story. Very old theater. Everyone was on their feet rocking, except 1 guy front row first balcony. In between songs Sully says "what will it take to make you stand? What about a f***in' beer?" He proceeds to grab a red solo cup of beer, throws it, it does a flip in the air, most of the beer stays in, then the guy stands up and grabs it from the air! The place erupted!!!!!
The first album is real good. Sully the lead singer lives in my area. he’s always giving back to the community. He supplied the schools with instruments he have a local business the money to open a restaurant.
I may not be a fan of frontman Sully Erna as a person... but he has talent, despite taking significant elements from Alice In Chains. Erna did admirable from being the drummer of Meliah Rage to forming Godsmack in 1996, getting signed in '98 and becoming a success in 1999 til today 🤘🔥
I'll never forget seeing them at woodstock 99 they it was at a decommissioned air base for the B-52G Stratofortress we watched standing back at the first the first set of speakers in the center. The tarmac where the planes were parked was concrete, I heard It was 6ft thick, was trembeling an vibrating from all the people jumping everybody packed so close you pretty much had to jump with everyone it was an amazingly intense and insane experience.
I like that you're doing Godsmack songs. I will say these are the most mainstream songs that people hear the most. I would say Godsmack's best songs are a toss up of Love,Hate,Sex,Pain ,, Unforgettable (for maturity) , Greed, and Serenity. IMO
For those who may not know or remember. Shannon the drummer, did not play the drums for the first and I think also the second album. Sully actually did, because the producer didn't think Shannon had the godsmack sound he was looking for down just yet. For him to keep working on it. And I hope y'all react to godsmack's - serenity. Because not only is it a great song, but it also stopped me from taking my own life.

Look, and bounces around d til Brad looks at her like " damn, what?" It's great. It's like you're from two different planets, but are in the same orbit around the sun, experiencing the same events from opposite sides

I think Lex will enjoy the longer songs with a lot of solo guitar work in them such as, Exodus - "Funeral Hymn", "Deathamphetamine", "The Atrocity Exhibition" Machine Head - "Davidian", "Unto the Locust", "Darkness Within", "Aesthetics of Hate", "Ten Ton Hammer"
This songs tuning and general attitude is a big eff you. I've been enjoying it for 24 years so far. Here's to another 24! I don't think you guys fully appreciate the significance of this song.

In fact the band name comes from an AIC song called God Smack. However, Godsmack in my opinion would be categorized as Alternative Metal
Great Reaction! This song has a video to it but it's good you had the lyrics too. Have you guys reacted to the "Godsmack Drum Battle live?" if not you should (Godsmack's lead singer is a drummer and their drummer is awesome and they did a classic drum off)
Brad knows what a riff is now, people, we are gaining ground. Brad will be a rocker in due time!
with all his Rock Band video game comments I think he has been since he was a kid
