- Since Summer has begun it's time that we talk about how to keep your hamster cool! If you are someone who has no air conditioning in your home but wants to own hamsters long term then I highly would suggest looking into getting a portable air conditioner for the room or a fan similar to this one: amzn.to/2F68kJQ

I just watched "Keeping up with the Kardashians". They put a Syrian hamster in a petsmart castle cage og it was runnning around in a ball. The first one died, so they bought a new one that looked similar. I really really wished that they could have watched YOUR videos. The fact that celebrities broadcast bad hamster care internationally, makes me so sad.

It is very sad ☹️ the fact that they have more money than I ever will have in my life yet they can’t even give their hamster a decent sized cage is sad.
@@user-vw9km3ps3e they did not really know so its not their fault but I just wish that Khloe did some research first and somehow teach north to care for the hamster first before getting one. It's so sad that there are many hamsters out there living like this. :(

Also from the UK and worrying about how to keep my two lovely new Russian Dwarfs warm! Victoria - thank you for your wonderfully informative videos! This is the first time that I have had hamsters in 30 + years, love them every bit as much as when I was a child. They are making such wonderful family friends and my children are learning to be very responsible co-owners!

Summers here in Japan can get pretty hellish so I just leave my AC on the whole day for the hams even if I’m at work. I also place thermometers inside their cages and monitor the temperatures regularly. I don’t mind paying a bit more for the electricity just as long as my babies are comfortable and happy. ☺️

For my hamster I put fruit in some ice cubes and freeze it. So my hamster can cool off and enjoy a snack, and if they like chewing the ice is good for that to (:

I live in Arizona which is hot all year round but I have thick curtains that block out sun and a fan that is nice and cool near my hammys cage :) I also give cucumber and refill my hamsters water bottle with cold water
My dad passed away last year and I finally got his 3 hamsters, and I've been binge watching your videos to make sure I can properly care for them and keep them alive for as long as possible.

This video helped so much! My hamster Potato had been acting lazy and he’s normally pretty active. I had my mom take me and him to the vet for I was worried he had a respiratory infection. Luckily, he’s fine and it was just he heat. I was so glad our vet knew so much about hamsters, but so knew just a bit more from watching your channel when it came to cages and stuff. He said he saw no signs of a respiratory infection. I’d been trying to find ways to keep him cool for the summer and this video helped me so much. I was so relived after trying these because he was so much more active and I was worried he was dying when he was so lazy. Thank you so much for your help!

I currently live in a tiny studio apartment that has no AC, is facing the sun from sunrise to sunset, and worst of all, has no freezer. I'm having a really hard time keeping my hammy comfortable. I have a ton of dishes in the fridge that i put into his cage, but i have to exchange them every hour otherwise they warm back up, which obviously isn't possible because I can't just stay home all day every day. Ice packs and frozen cage accessories aren't an option for me either, because of my lack of freezer. I'm truly starting to think I'm too broke to take good care of him and it breaks my heart. I ordered some of those small portable AC units, I hope they do enough and I hope they arrive soon :'(

Thank you for a helpful video, yet again. Our AC broke down today during a major heatwave and I was so worried about our hamster. Luckily, I used almost all your advice, especially the ice pack from the bottom of her detolf, I tried to put it in the area where she likes to burrow anyway, and she is there, all cozy and just fine. We moved her to a room with a fan and I also gave her pieces of cold cucumber and watermelon, she just gobbled them down. I hope everyone makes sure their hamsters are safe and comfy.

Another small tip that helps big time is to wet a big towel, then put it in the freezer until frozen enough to still be able to mold it.
Then put it under your hamster cage or above it to cool them off.
NOTE: Do NOT cover the cage entirely, your hamster still needs to breathe!

These tips are also great for mice, here in Australia the summer gets insanely hot and I get so stressed about them overheating even with aircon blasting 😅 so glad its winter down here!

Thank you so much for these tips, here in the netherlands we broke our heat temperature record yesterday. I hate warm temperatures myself so i have a airconditioner but i still am using these tips so pepper (my hamster) is cool for sure!😁
it's 110 degrees out today. i have been doing my best to keep my mouse room below 80 degrees and keep their cages even cooler. thanks for the ideas!

Thanks Tori. I don’t have Central Air, normally our air conditioner is right next to where my hamsters cage is, it normally stays 69 in the room during the summer. We live in New York and it’s only really “hot” from June-August. I’m definitely using these tips 😊

Literally know people having to put the heating on and it's June! I'm a dog groomer and we had the heating on at work and we were under the dryers while drying the dogs and it was still cold!

I probably wouldn't place it under their hideout but rather in a different spot incase they'd like to sleep in their regular nest and not be cold :)

Had about a week of hot weather and it's been raining ever since. When it was hot I had two fans rotating on all 3 of my hamster enclosures, didn't think about putting sand baths in the freezer, but they have tiles, and ceramic hides etc and i changed their water daily and gave them ice cubes in their water aswell, but these extra tips are great thanks
