  • Welcome to the 2nd part of the 2-part special on one of the all-time greats of cricket - Sunil Manohar Gavaskar. In this part I talk a lot more on the personal side of things between Gavaskar and I.
Some of those special knocks that i got to witness from the other end as well as the special way in which he stood tall against all the bowlers across the globe.
We got to spend quite a few years together in the Indian team and i talk about some of those funny moments that we experienced as cricketers.
I also talk about what it was like in the middle with him and the kind of relationship we share off the field.
All in all, I thank the almighty for giving me the chance to play alongside Sunil Gavaskar and I hope you enjoy this episode and please don’t forget to subscribe if you like what you see.

Nostalgic! Cheeka sir, grew up watching your bindaas game. Nice episodes on Sunil Gavaskar. It will be great if you could include the third episode on the legendary Sunil Gavaskar and talk about his big media contribution to cricket since the last 30 years. According to me, Gavaskar raised the bar of Indian commentatary and took it to international standards.

Cheeka is all emotion, down to earth , rustic, natural, common man, namma aallu annu sollavendia orey Oru person. He is humble, ready to praise team mates and opponents - and a swash buckler , certainly ahead of his times. It was a joy watching him in 80 s , especially in Australia, Benson Hedges World Series - those days live starts at 04 00 am , 27 inch Sony color TV was a giant screen in those days ... He certainly did not change , it’s a joy to listen to him in Tamil as he fondly calls SMG as sunny , avan , Ivan etc. Thanks Cheeka, for the memories ! 👍👍

Cheeka Sir, good to see the great quotient you had and still have with Sunny Sir. Many people are under the impression that we was a very selfish cricketer. You clearing that doubt by quoting a few incidents where he batted for the team would have been great. My favourite memory of him was when he openly snapped out at the Aussie team in the commentary box during the infamous Sydney test

Wow, cheeka speaks naturally n from heart 🌹, am a telugu n understood his each words. Am one of the biggest fans of sunny bhai n cheeka. I hv followed every innings of sunny once i was in 6th class ( 1978 onwards ) n followed him. Thoroughly n closely. Super opening batsmam. Of the world not just india, super human being n master of discipline n concentration.Unfortunately he never liked 1day cricket n the knock against NZ in 87 as cheeka explained doubts everyone srikant or sunny hitting. Thats sheer talent n he juat did not like it n india dud not hv much options n he almost played every match in one day as sheer prescence n his K will support team.
I remember an article of sir don bradman telling sunny at world IX vs Aus in Australia -telling sunny to play much slower rather than just hitting as don could see his concentration n defence solid........
Nostalgic memory of sunny hai by cheeka 🌹🌹🌹

@@CheekyCheeka I have watched you play from the Buchi Babu days. I don't know whether you remember this, there was a game I saw you playing immediately after the world cup 1983 at Chepauk. It was against Bharath Reddy, L. Siva and V.B. Chandrasekar team. You carried through the innings. Your world cup finals batting, Man, I enjoyed it along with my friends ( about 30 of them in a room which can actually hold about 15). The square cut followed by a hook of Roberts, over the head shot over Holding's head. Still vivid in my memory. I miss Chennai. Thanks again for the nice memory you are sharing about the Indian team. That's right.. Sunny retired at a time when there was at least 4 - 5 years of cricket left in him. More over in his prime time ie upto 30 years of his age he could play only 50 tests as cricket was not played as frequently as now. In the first 50 tests he scored 20 centuries including 3 magnificent double. Only Bradman had done better. Had Sunny been playing in the modern era, nobody would have come any closer to him in the number of centuries or runs scored.

    • @vijaygautam1406
      @vijaygautam1406 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

True. Just one thing: Gavaskar score 4 fantastic double hundreds, 3 of which were against the mighty West Indies team: 205, 220 and 236* respectively, and 221 against England in that famous test match of 1979, in which India made 429/8, while chasing 438 for the total, courtesy, who else but the great Gavaskar.
We should also remember that at the time these greats: Gavaskar, Srikant, Kapil played, bats were thin and sort of primitive, and pitches helped bowlers much more. There used to be a true contest between batsman and the bowlers, unlike today where cricket is played mostly for spectators, who just want to see the hitting. Bats are specially manufactured today for hitting (said once by Imran Khan himself). At that time when Gavaskar played, hitting a six truly required lot of power and technique. And the way he hit in his penultimate ODI against NZ was nothing short of amazing. Gavaskar was a true master. And Srikant his ideal batting companion.

I never miss to see Srikanth playing in University Union ground in Chetpet from 80 to 1984. Those days he used to smoke and does not put top three buttons in his shirt. I have also heard that in late 70s, people used to say that Srikanth comes to Shastri Nagar Sixth cross streets, ( street behind the present A2B) to play street cricket with Tennis ball.

If my memory is correct, in that Test against Pakistan in Bangalore, on the minefield of wicket, he was given out (caught) in a doubtful manner (and it was not "Not Out"), as according to him, the ball hit his forearm but umpire thought that it hit the glove before being caught. Sunil also said that since it was charged atmosphere he did not show resentment but walked.

Sunil the great earned the respect to भारतीय cricket. A great patriot with acidic
retorts to rivals on the receiving end were many ----- Noor Jehan, Imran, Bapu Nadkarni, Tony Lewis, Dennis Lilee.
A Great soul, invincible batsman, a staunch Ambassador of भारतीय values. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💖🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Srikkanth Sir, Can you please talk about Pattrick Patterson..he was a great bowler giving nightmare to entire Australia team on a test match (i do not remember which year) but I still remember you definitely were the batsman who gave nightmare to him....

He actually got out to a bad decision at 96, else he would have won the match for India. Only other player to get 50 in that match was Vengsarkar. Kapil also mentioned in one of his videos that it was one pitch for Gavaskar and another one for everyone else. And this kind of class in his last innings when he was past 37 years of age.
