  • Happy Friday!
    This week I show you my finished Style Arc Nova Midi
    (full review coming) as well as show you an update on my Francesca Woven Top, which is also from Style Arc. I did the Francesca so that I could "play along" with ‪@StaceyJsStudio‬ Monthly Make for April, and it has been so much fun to hang out in her studio with her as we both sew the blouse.

    Hi Erin, your dress is really pretty and I loved how you were modeling it 🙌🏻. The Francesca blouse is gorgeous, love the striped fabric, and I can’t wait to see it on you 👍👍. Happy sewing 🧵🪡💕

      Thank you! I was really pleased with both of the Style Arc makes, and will definitely be making more in the future! The dress is SO fun to wear.

    Good job repairing the dress, it looks so comfortable and perfect for the heat. It's still cold in the UK and raining, so summer dresses are a long way off! Enjoy your trip home 🙂

      It’s a great dress! I wore it yesterday just lounging around my Mom’s house and it’s just the perfect thing to throw on.
      I hope you’ve had at least a bit of sun this weekend! Bits of rain are nice but then it can really wear on you. I hope you had a lovely weekend 🤗

    Glad to hear things are looking up and that the patch worked! The feeling right after you realize you sliced your garment ranks up there in my top five worst feelings ever. Your dress is so cute and I'm definitely looking forward to hearing how your experience with Style Arc was in general! I've always wondered!, but never felt motivated enough to try out myself. I'll just live vicariously through you, instead! Have a great weekend!

      The heart sinking feeling, followed immediately by rage and despair 😖 At least it’s generally pretty recoverable!
      Overall I really think Style Arc (or at least these two patterns with the assistance of TH-cam) is manageable! I think they have some patterns that would fit really well with your aesthetic 🌎🧚

      Thank you Angie! I really enjoyed sewing both patterns and the drafting was just beautiful! Zero issues with things fitting together

    Your dress is super cute! And your Francesca is going to be awesome. Totally get why you don’t want to do buttonholes on your mechanical machine - why would you?? 😂 Have a safe trip!

      Thank you! I really enjoyed both patterns and can’t wait to get buttonholes in my Francesca so I can actually wear it! Definitely not doing them on my mechanical though 🙅🏻‍♀️4 steps is 3 more opportunities for me to mess something up on every single hole 😂

    Good for you with the patching - I did something similar when I was making a pair of jeans and I did a patch and you really can't see it - so much better than having to take out whole sections of your garment! I really enjoy your videos so thank you.❤
    In terms of my sewing I'm going on a short trip to see my granddaughter and she's taking us to the theatre so I'm trying to get some nice things made for that. Trousers and shirts are my priority so wish me luck! Have a great trip yourself.

      Thank you! I was super pleased with the patch. A barely there patch is so satisfying isn’t it?! Plus it’s definitely better than the effort and waste that redoing a whole section of a garment would mean.
      That sounds like such a fun trip! I hope you’re able to get at least one or two new outfits put together for your trip. It’s fun to have something new and then it becomes a memory of the trip in itself.

    Your dress looks great, Erin! I love how you patched it, you can't even see it. I've only ever sewed one thing from Style Arc and it was very simple so it all turned out fine. Curious to hear more about your experiences.
    I never got a chance to comment on your other video where you talked about body changes and having a hard time figuring out what to wear and I just wanted to say that I hope you're feeling better about that. I've felt that way myself from time to time. And if buying some clothes to help you during this transition helps, then you should go for it. Sewists don't have to make every single thing, tho I hope you're able to find some patterns that work for you during this time! Nothing like a flowy dress to help with that 😊

    • @ErinSews
      @ErinSews  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! It’s been interesting to sew two Style Arc patterns basically at the same time, especially since they’re so different! I think the drafting is 👌🏻👌🏻
      Thank you for the kind words 😊 I feel like I have a very piecemeal wardrobe to begin with, so then when half of it does fit because of normal fluctuations, it’s just so annoying. Most days it doesn’t matter much, but then a fun weekend pops up and it’s like I REALLY have nothing to wear! I wore a uniform when I worked, and was pregnant when I stopped, then breastfed, yada yada…so now I’m like “what do I actually like to wear?” It’s basically an identity crisis 🫣 You’re right about not needing to make every single thing. A few simple things would definitely help me feel more cohesive right now!

    Yay for a good week! 🎉🎉 Yes, totally. Patch whenever possible. My first knife incident happened on a chino-type skirt, right below the zip on the center front seam - essentially making a big arrow pointing down *ahem* . Does my machine have a four step buttonhole?? I've never thought of it as that because once I place the presser foot down, it's just a matter of turning the knob a few times without touching anything else. How fun to be making a couple of new things for a special occasion! I do hope your dream machine problem gets fixed. Happy trails!😘😘

    • @ErinSews
      @ErinSews  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I laughed a little too hard at your description of where the knife incident happened 😂
      I think my buttonhole involves changing the stitch setting a few times to move the needle around and what not. There’s no other way to change the stitch length or needle position (I don’t think) so there are 3 different stitch settings for left, right, and bar tack…I think. I really should look into it because it might not be too bad. I got my machine dropped off today though, and they said it should be done next Monday unless anything crazy happens!

    • @lynngates1662
      @lynngates1662 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ErinSews I'll have to send you a picture of the skirt 😉It's such a nice pattern that I can't give it up...
      Your buttonhole sounds just like mine... The stitch width goes to 5 (widest), length to little buttonhole picture on the dial (almost 0), and then I put my foot down and turn the stitch knob (1, 2, 3, 4, 3) after each step without touching anything. Lydia's little Brother 😆starts at the other end of the buttonhole, I hadn't figured hers out yet because I think all the steps are in one. That made me feel so powerful when I got the machine at 22! 😁 I look at my mom's machine that I've got now, and wonder how on earth buttonholes are done! I surely did them...
      I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and your machine -- I can imagine those first stitches back home might be a little tense after your experience. 🤞🤞😬😬😘😘

      Yes! I love a good sheet set and this one was in great shape and good quality.
      You can do it!! Measure measure measure the pattern pieces to see where things are going to fall (like darts). Taking the time to do that always pays dividends. That’s advice I’m trying to remember to follow too….

    Hi Erin! The patch worked great - I couldn’t tell it was there 🙂 A perfect armscye you say?…I’ve heard they exist but I don’t think I’ve ever been lucky enough to experience one myself (without a ton of finagling at least).
    I can’t wait to see the Francesca finished!
    My husband has an award presentation dinner and ceremony coming up in 2-3 weeks. I thought about making my dress but decided to go with a store bought little black dress I already had and just make a shaw/bolero/topper thing. I emailed you earlier today 🙂
    This weekend I’m going to make up mock ups using a couple different patterns and hopefully I will like one of them to use for my fashion fabric. I don’t want to rush to get it done but I don’t want to wait until the night before either!

    • @ErinSews
      @ErinSews  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I did feel very sneaky with the patch. It worked out so well! In my head the whole dress was basically ripped to shreds, but it turns out the reality was MUCH better.
      I guess I should clarify that the arms he is perfect *vertically* but the front to back definitely needs improvement.
      I saw! I love the look you’re going for, and it sounds like such a fun and cool event! How’d the mock ups go?
