    Perhaps with a scaled up amount of dough, it might be possible to flatten it out a bit and cut it with a scone cutter into thick circles, just like scones

    Thanks Marie! Love these clay & powder products 🙏🙏.. Wondering if the inclusion of Natrasorb bath, tapioca starch or cosmetic rice powder could be used in place of the cornflower? I can't seem to find many of your formulations you've written or any info in your encyclopaedia with those mentioned ingredients along with HONEY POWDER as an alternative the liquid form? There's a zillion ingredients to work with I realise but just wondering if you're opposed to those powder ingredients as they are all beautiful in d.i.y products? Would also love 🤞🤞 you to formulate more body powder recipes as well one-day when you get bored 🥴🥴. Love & appreciate your work & all your help!

    Instead of SCI, can I use sodium cocoyl glutamate? I'm not sure if you're familiar with it but it's a powdered surfactant that's made from amino acids. If I can use it, how much would you recommend?

    I'm so happy that in my bingeing of your channel I came across this syndent bar. Please forgive yet another "can I swap [...]?" question, I read the blog post & all the comments to make sure I wasn't being too redundant:
    Can I swap a liquid watery non-ionic surfactant-y thing for a liquid fatty solubilize-y thing? I do not plan on purchasing C/C glucoside, but I am going to get Cromollient SCE for another formula. I understand that the lather will take a hit & that the overall feel will be different (I pray in a good way), but is there a practical reason why this might not be a good idea?

    • @mokshalani8414
      @mokshalani8414 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nevermind, I found your post on what to think about when swapping surfactants & it mostly answered my questions!

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Beyond any surfactant swap differences, you might also notice the dough has a slightly different consistency, so you may need to adjust the wet/dry balance :) Happy making!

    Another great DIY! I actually have all of these ingredients and I’m not satisfied with my current face wash (I made powdered cleansing grains with SCI, kaolin clay, colloidal oatmeal, rose powder and various other botanicals but it’s too drying) so I’ll try this before giving up on SCI on my face altogether (I’m hoping the high % of cornstarch will soften its effects).
    Qstn for you, Marie (or any of my fellow home formulators who can answer this):
    Would it be feasible to mix the liquid ingredients first and then add the powdered one by one to avoid so much dust flying into the air?
    I have a lung disease and I’m still awaiting my proper dust mask to arrive from Lee Valley Hardware (everything ventilator related is backordered for 6 mons+ due to COVID); I’ve doubled up on those thick painter’s masks but I still get SCI in my lungs when I work with it.
    I will try making this outside on a non-windy day which may help but I’m wondering if switching the order of mixing will solve the issue?
    I imagine the powders are mixed first to ensure they’re evenly distributed but I could just kneed longer by hand (but maybe the mixture is so thick and sticky that it’s too hard to distribute the powders if I swap the order...).

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can definitely try it! In the past I have found it is easier to do it this way when it comes to getting all the dry things incorporated... perhaps try all the wet stuff + the Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI), and then adding all of that to the rest of the powders? Could be a good compromise. Let me know how it goes ❤️

    I don't think I'd want to use corn starch to wash with, that would clog my pores. 🤷‍♀️ I enjoy watching and appreciate your thoughts and examples though, thank you for sharing!

    • @catzkeet4860
      @catzkeet4860 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      How would cornstarch "clog your pores” particularly when it's mixed with a surfactant? The cornstarch simply helps to hold things together, and it is then washed away by the surfactant. The particles are WAY too big to be absorbed by pores. Kaolin clay has a similar particle size and is used frequently in soap, and I don't know of any issues with ”clogged pores" for the same reason, the soap/surfactant washes the clay/starch away. I get it if a clay bar isn't your thing, but to say that cornstarch would "clog your pores" doesn't sound correct to me.
