I made this again and I love this formulation. It comes together very quickly and is easy to press into mould. My SLSa is a bit more grainy so used some extra strach. I could have grinded it, too. My shampoo bars (including this) are often preserved with cosgard & phenoxyethanol & ethylxexylglycerine. I used new-to-me fragance, frangibani EO, which I adore! ❤
Easy and excellent recipe. I love it.❤❤❤ I made changes to the recipe (I added Kolin clay and Sweet Almond oil) and my hair looks much healthier and shinier.🎉 Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, you are the best. ❤😊🥰

I am a newbie.I LOVE this shampoo bar and the #2conditioner. The less ingredients, the better I like it and it seems to be helping my scalp issues. I love in Mississippi so I knew from the beginning it will take longer for my bars to cure. Just one question: Is the bar supposed to be grainy? If it is, then I'm doing it correctly. If not, more oil? or better mixing? Thanks! (My whole family loves the body butter!)
Hmm. I'd probably try swapping 0.25% of the rice flour for goat milk powder and see how that goes. My main concern here is spoilage; milk at room temperature is not known for its stability :)
Hello Marie, I absolutely love your channel and all that you do! Just one question. Can SCI noodles be added to this formulation without removing any of the SLSA? 😊
I made these, they are wonderful, my hair is so soft!!! Thank you. Is there anything I can add to make them more firm? Is there a way to make them cure quicker and not feel wet, I let them sit a week. Thank you for sharing
I'm so glad you're loving them, woohoo! Re: hardness... is there any chance you used SLSa from Amazon? So far, every single time someone has reported the bar stays soft, that's been the problem. You want to use LATHANOL® LAL SLSa (sold by DIY supply shops and linked in the free partner blog post).

Hi Elizabeth! Did you, but any chance, use Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate (SLSa) from Amazon? That's been the culprit every time someone has made these bars and they haven't hardened up :/
Excellent. 😊 Hi Marie. I was wondering is there a way to put additives on this formulation and how? Can i replace the rice powder lets say seaweed powder?

I've never made a shampoo (bar or otherwise) with SLS. I don't even own SLS! This formulation uses Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate (SLSa), which is very different from SLS :)
Marie, I actually wound up changing the way that I make my solid shampoo bars because of you. With this new formula, how hard does the finished product become? The way that I’ve been doing it now for years is the cold process method, no heat involved for melting your SCI. They come out like bricks. This is the hardness that I need to achieve. Will this formula do that?
These bars are really hard, but I have learned through troubleshooting with a patron who used a cheaper Amazon SLSa that you can get a softer bar if you do that. I used LATHANOL® LAL POWDER from Stepan Company and that worked really well :) I'm so glad you're enjoying the cold process method for shampoo bars-I was 100% sold after trying it, too!
@@HumblebeeAndMe oh, yes, I will never go back to heating up and trying to melt the SCI noodles and get a big gloppy mess. No, thank you. Welcome to the wonderful world of DIY 😄 ❤️ Brilliant work on tweaking the water amount to suit your larger grain SLSa-that's exactly what you needed to do in that situation :) I hope the Amazon SLSa behaves and your bars harden up beautifully for you! I believe most of the people who've had poor results with Amazon SLSa purchased a fine grain one (one person sent me a link and I bought some to check), so hopefully yours is different from the stuff that definitely doesn't work 🤞🏻 I usually use fine grain SLSa as it's much more widely available, and its smaller size makes it dissolve more readily, which is nice when formulating products like foaming bath salts, but coarse grain will definitely work in shampoo bars :) Happy making!

I love this simple formulation! But i do have a few questions. How do i add botanical herbs like hibiscus powder etc and other actives that can help with hair concerns like hair growth, dandruff etc ?
Hi! That ends up being an 'it depends' thing, depending on the particular ingredient, the format it takes, how much is required to be effective, etc. You'd generally be lowering the water, the rice flour, or the carrier oil to make room for it, but you may end up having to make other adjustments, and there are also considerations of compatibility. These two articles are a good place to start :) www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/how-can-i-incorporate-x-ingredient-into-a-formulation/ www.humblebeeandme.com/add-actives-to-lotions/
Thank you for your reply Marie ♥️! Appreciate it. Will surely look into the link you've given and will go with the try and error sessions 😅. But I do hope you may consider to make this an idea for your next video 🙈. But, personally your blogs and videos has helped me a lot on the journey of formulating 😊. Thank you!
Could I use coconut milk powder instead of the rice flour. Also could I try using vitamin e oil. Strawberry seed oil or Kukui (Candlenut) Nut Kernel Oil Organic. Is possible to combine two different oils
I think you should be able to, but it will be hard to get it as fine as the stuff you can buy, and that change in particle size can definitely throw off the wet/dry balance of the dough. Be sure to pass it through a fine sieve to ensure you're getting rid of any big bits and do your best to get it as silky and fine as cornstarch :)
You could try replacing a small %, but I wouldn't replace all of it. Start with 0.5-1%; even less if the aloe powder is concentrated at all. Happy making!
It is already sulphate free, so you don't have to do anything differently 😄 (Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate (SLSa) is not the same thing as SLS and is not a sulphate)

Thank you!
Can u plz plz make video on how to make flaxseed shampoo bar..
How do you weigh .6 of a gram? What scale do you have
Can this be used as a regular soap bar?
Definitely :)
Could I use coconut milk powder instead of the rice flour. Also could I try using vitamin e oil. Strawberry seed oil or Kukui (Candlenut) Nut Kernel Oil Organic. Is possible to combine two different oils
Can the optiphen plus be subtitued with a different paraben?
Thank you for a great video as usual😊. . Question, can i blend my own rice as rice powder?
I think you should be able to, but it will be hard to get it as fine as the stuff you can buy, and that change in particle size can definitely throw off the wet/dry balance of the dough. Be sure to pass it through a fine sieve to ensure you're getting rid of any big bits and do your best to get it as silky and fine as cornstarch :)
@HumblebeeAndMe thank you so much for your quick response. I will try 😊
Can we replace rice flour with aloe vera powder or brahmi powder
You could try replacing a small %, but I wouldn't replace all of it. Start with 0.5-1%; even less if the aloe powder is concentrated at all. Happy making!
How can we make it sulphate free?
It is already sulphate free, so you don't have to do anything differently 😄 (Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate (SLSa) is not the same thing as SLS and is not a sulphate)
I love your shampoo & conditioner bar recipes! Can I swap Kaolin clay or oatmeal for the rice starch? Thank you!
That'll be the same answer as discussed at 06:43 :) Happy making!
@@HumblebeeAndMe thank you.
