Thank you very much for the interesting (and, at times, touching) review of HMCS Haida, and for acknowledging the critical role that the RCN served in the Battle of the Atlantic. WoW may just be a wargame, but videos like this remind one that 75 years ago, it was anything BUT, a "game". Great review and video, Jingles! :-)
Jingles, as a Canadian myself, whose hometown happens to be Hamilton (where Haida is now moored), I tip my hat to you for this wonderfully well done intro! Thank you, good Sir!
Just wanted to say that you did a wonderful job on the history on the Haida. I live in Hamilton and have visited her several times and it never gets stale. My hat is off to you good sir, for a job well done.
Now that the Aussies and Canadians have there ships, it's the time now I think that New Zealand gets a ship. I thinking HMNZS Achilles or HMNZS Royalist, whose with me 🇳🇿
FRom Dennis, Always enjoy your channel. My Dad served on corvettes,K113, HMCS Arvida. I've visited HMCS Haida when she was in Toronto. Thank you for the Thank you for Canada's Contribution. We ended WW2 as the 3rd largest Navy in the World. If needs be we will step up again to former glories.
O Canada! Our home and native land! True patriot love in all thy sons command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The True North strong and free! From far and wide, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. God keep our land glorious and free! O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
"in all THY sons command" I congratulate you for trying to use the TRUE line, rather than the BS the idiot liberals changed it to, but please get it right. Our anthem has been through enough butchering lately :(
Starfury MS Tell me about it... Strange though, 3rd Verse, hasn't been tinkered with yet as perpetuating sex-stereotypes lol "Oh Canada, beneath thy shining skies, May stalwart SONS and gentle Maidens rise"
Eeeee! I've actually been /on/ the HMCS Haida, back before 2002 when she was anchored at Ontario Place. I loved doing the tour every time I was there - and I loved hearing her guns fired in salute as part of the annual fireworks celebration.
As a proud Canadian I'm so happy to see this beaut of a ship sailing in World of Warships, and faithfully to her service history as well. And as a huge fan of your channel I'm relieved that you seem to like it!
The Mighty Jingles yes, "fightingest" is a word on this side of the pond. And though it was transliterated into French, Iroquois is pronounced Ear-uh-kwoi.
Remember, if not for that treason, all of Europe would be speaking German now.. we didn't win the war by ourselves, but without us the Germans may well would have won it.
With the wrong National Anthem for the time period of the Haida. It should have been the Maple Leaf Forever, O' Canada came about later on. I appreciate hearing our Anthem at the beginning though. Although The Maple Leaf Forever never was Canada's "official" national anthem it fits us very well.
Grisbane2099 I think you forget something there... th USSR is the one that did the heavy lifting from 1942 onwards. The US sure helped alot and made sure democraty is still alive in western europe but they did not beat the germans the Russian did.
Maybe a little late Paul, but certainly one of your best videos. When HMCS Haida was at Ontario Place (Toronto) I spent a week end on board with a Sea Cadet Squadron, Fantastic weekend, especially when the Haida's crew let the Cadets fire the noon day gun.
Kind of interesting point on the flag issue. WG did add the option of changing the flag on the Pan-Asian ships from the generic one to their country's one. At least with the Commonwealth faction (and the future Pan-American one as well) I think there would be less people getting their panties in a twist like the China/Taiwan debacle.
You can change flags on Commonwealth ships, but only to the White Ensign. Commonwealth nations didn't start flying their own variant until much later, although there's a good chance it will be added anyway now that the number of those ships is increasing.
I can imagine T-24 embarking (pun intended) on a quest of revenge against Haida, leading to the second and third encounters between the two destroyers, and Haida having no idea what T-24 is on about and then apologizing for defeating her during their third battle. Because, you know, Canadian. KanColle fanfic community, there's your new writing prompt. Go!
Hi Jingles, I absolutely loved this video, both as a Canadian and as a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces. Thank you so much for going into the historical details, and the "thank you" at the end. Your "lump in the throat" comment was spot on. Love sailing my Haida on WoW, I think every time about friends who live and friends who have been lost. Lost a good one only weeks ago in the line of duty. I salute you, sir :) . And while I can't speak for all of Canada, I'm more than happy that you honoured us and the crew of HMCS Haida with the anthem. Cheers.
Absolutely.. as an Australian, my Perth and Vampire fly the British White Ensign just as they did when they were commissioned in the RAN. Like the RCN, we didn't get our own Ensign until the mid 1960's ('67) for us.
Thanx Jingles for your brief history of this small ship. A huge thanx to her crew from times past for their dedication (and sacrifice) during WW2 together with those of our great allies. And for those who now sail her across a virtual sea in WoWS, punch hard and fast. The real-life crew are a hard act to follow!
It would be nice to see a historian take this and complete it with information on the fighting crew of the Haida. Nice video Jingles. Interesting bit of history.
If you want to build torpedo boats that are as big or bigger than everyone else's destroyers, you can call them London Taxicabs if it it makes you feel better but everyone else is going to call them destroyers. Because that's what they are.
T-24 had a displacement of 1295 tons, 68% of the displacement of a Tribal class (1854 tons), 61% of a Fletcher class destroyer and 90% of an E class destroyer of 1405 tons. So i stand by my point that it was not bigger as everyone "else's" destroyers but smaller as contemporary allied destroyers. Its larger as a Clemson class destroyer build 23 years earlier. All following American destroyers of the interwar time and world war 2 time frame are larger. Even American destroyer escorts were larger. For British destroyers its slightly larger as a town class build in 1917 (24years difference), the following classes are larger. One exception might be the British Hunt class with was designed as primary escort, more like a American Destroyer Escort, so i discount these for this argument. For France the planned inter war lion class was 1780tons (71%), the Chacal class was 2126tons (60%) and so on.
@@norbertblackrain2379 Yeah, and our destroyers were closer to light cruisers in displacement and armament... So those "torpedo boats" played more the role of a destroyer than a real torpedo boat. As you said yourself, they are destroyer escorts in size and armament. Definitely a completely different animal than a torpedo boat. Why are you so worked up anyway?
Another BIG +1 for the Canadian Mouse. Her review of Haida was #105. Each one is VERY in depth with tons of data. And for the Canadian Navy, had they not stepped up as they did to be a big part of the battle in the Atlantic, the US would have had to pull resources from the Pacific, making the fight against Japan take a much slower approach.
Alias No.1425 the unfortunate part is that wasn't even Canada's flag during world war 2 as we only released ourself from colonization close to the end of the war
Barrettus Calling the french-canadians Froggies shows your total ignorance of the french-canadian culture. I've live there my whole life and I never saw anyone eat frogs and I've never seen it in any restaurant menu either (except, you guessed it, in French cuisine restaurants of course)
You talk of "total" ignorance... but you say you lived there you entire life. Lived where? To be French Canadian is to live in one place? That's a rather narrow statement! One city or province does not determine that identity. I do concede that the etymology of the French Frog has nothing to do with Canada. Some suggest it's related to a suburb of Paris, others ancient heraldry and yes for some the actual eating of frogs. As a french speaker outside Québec I can tell you being referred to as a frog is very much a part of Canadian culture. Sadly the behavior of a certain group of ignorant Québecers have alienated us to such a large extent that we francophones also refer to the inhabitants of La Belle Province as Frogs. Amicalement, André.
+Olivier R. +Barrettus Actually, calling the French frogs refers to the decorative frogging the French army put on the sleeves of their troops' uniforms in the 1800s to stop said troops from wiping their noses on their sleeves. It has nothing whatsoever to do with amphibians. That's just another uninformed myth that grew out of the total ignorance oft utilized by the lumpenproletariat as "common knowledge." I lived in Paris for four years. The term has nothing to do with any of the faubourgs de Paris.
@The Mighty Jingles Actually Jingles, the Elbing ships were (fleet) torpedo boats, not destroyers, as given away by the T-# designation. I know german things appear as big and scary for you allies and your small boats, but still, they were not destroyers ;P
Thank you for this wonderful video!! I was a kid when it arrived in Toronto and got to board her several times before she was moved to Hamilton. I drive by her several times every year and I've got to stop again and visit the old girl again. I currently have an 88% win rating (7or 8 games).
Have always loved this ship, and that was way before the WOT's first release as a game... I have it in my WOT fleet and absolute love it. I am no where near good enough, but even where I am at, she is an awesome ship. There are times when you actually get to drive that "dream car" only to find out it well...sucks. That was and is not the case with this ship. I usually do not like playing destroyers....but this ship has changed that. So on historical points she scores very high, national pride in our navy and those who serve in it, past, present and future, and in the game....the fun factor is very high. Thanks to "Little White Mouse" WOT and you for putting this ship on your channel and for the entertaining and informative manner as well.
In an older video he said he lost it over time after living away from Newcastle for many years but can bring it back (I don't know how well) when he's in town visiting family.
Thanks Jingles. While i didn't serve in WW2 in the RCN,i did serve in the 1980's.So,from one sailor to another,i thank you for your service and this awesome video.Keep up the great work.
She'd be a varient of the Crown Colony class (aka. the Fiji). Maybe a Fiji with crawling smoke akin to the Perth's relationship with the Leander? Personally, I'd rather see the Bonnie.
As a South African that plays WoWS, as well as one that had family in the Merchant Navy, Royal Navy RAF and South African forces in North Africa, 1) Thanks for remembering us, 2) It's a pleasure ;)
No more bizarre than the Stars and Stripes and Lone Star camos for Texas, Red October for Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya, Maid of Orleans for Richelieu and Gascogne, etc. Several ships have "patriotic" alternate camos that are available.

Sprengmaster Let's see... 5.7km Surface Detection better than I believe any tier 7 destroyer? Check. Has as many guns as the Akatsuki that fire faster, turn faster, are weighted toward the front, and do more damage? Check. Has 1x4 torpedoes that are roughly equal to the Maass's 2x4 torpedoes except much higher damage, but it can single launch? Check. A health pool only rivaled by an upgraded Maass? Check. Has a smoke/hydro combo? Check. Has smoke that allows for more movement instead of being a torpedo magnet? Check. Fastest rudder shift, middle-of-the-pack leaning towards better end on turning circle, and isn't the slowest tier 7 DD? Check. Has a secondary gun for maximum meme build? Check. What about cons? Floaty arcs (ooh, curb your enthusiasm /s). Only 1x4 torpedoes (woe is me). #3 Turret has bad arcs (oh no, the rear turret on an aggressive ship has bad arcs, how will we survive?! /s) What cons not listed here does the wargaming wiki say? What? It needs IFHE? As far as I know there is next to no ship in the game with an armour value of 20, so these shells penetrate just as much armour as 127mm guns, since you need to subtract 1 to find what you can penetrate.
On the Haida front she has better hp, stealth and gun performance with the Sims having that great manoeuvrability. The smokes are about the same just very different . I find the torps a similar again but different. I love the Sims but as a aggressive player I find the Haida good fun. I am looking forward to the Cossack but worry about the fact it is tier 8 :) However for me crew training is a factor and I do not own the Perth so her and the Vampire are getting captains ready for the Commonwealth line if it appears :)

WoW may just be a wargame, but videos like this remind one that 75 years ago, it was anything BUT, a "game". Great review and video, Jingles! :-)
I say everyone who owns one of them has to apologize after killing someone.
and say "a'boot" alot.
Micsmit 45 remember if we kill the enemy team they win
Agreed.
No, no, no.. you'd shake their hand and say, "Good game, eh?"
Micsmit 45 we Canadians may apologize but we don't mean it
Jingles, as a Canadian myself, whose hometown happens to be Hamilton (where Haida is now moored), I tip my hat to you for this wonderfully well done intro! Thank you, good Sir!
I am running the Canadian ensign. It’s an option at the bottom of the flag select screen. Oh jingles you so silly.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
Cort Muddle
Don't forget the other 3 verses, and, albeit, the french version
"in all THY sons command" I congratulate you for trying to use the TRUE line, rather than the BS the idiot liberals changed it to, but please get it right. Our anthem has been through enough butchering lately :(
Starfury MS
Tell me about it...
Strange though, 3rd Verse, hasn't been tinkered with yet as perpetuating sex-stereotypes lol
"Oh Canada, beneath thy shining skies,
May stalwart SONS and gentle Maidens rise"
boffinboy100 probably because that part never really gets sung anymore. Not at public events anyway.
Well, the current government wants to delete any semblance of Canadian identity and replace it with the vibrant enrichment of multiculturalism.
Eeeee! I've actually been /on/ the HMCS Haida, back before 2002 when she was anchored at Ontario Place. I loved doing the tour every time I was there - and I loved hearing her guns fired in salute as part of the annual fireworks celebration.
Oh Jingles, Making a Canada video before 4th of July :)
Sorry.
FireFlood TV he should have uploaded it on 4th of July
Canada Day was over the weekend however...
I was pissed when I say that, sorry for my bad language
Dude he’s British, seriously does anybody realize he doesn’t care about your holiday?
As a proud Canadian I'm so happy to see this beaut of a ship sailing in World of Warships, and faithfully to her service history as well. And as a huge fan of your channel I'm relieved that you seem to like it!
The Mighty Jingles yes, "fightingest" is a word on this side of the pond. And though it was transliterated into French, Iroquois is pronounced Ear-uh-kwoi.
We know.
Sure it’s not pronounced “Huey”?
@@SvenTviking only if you're talking about the helicopter.
I love the historical background information that is provided on these ships! Well done Jingles!
T-24 and T-27 went Team Rocket on Haida... and got what was coming to them
Nice tribute, Jingles! My uncle was a WWII RCN vet who served at the age of 15 and survived.
Only Jingles could release a video about a famous Canadian warship 3 days after Canada day, and on the US's treason day...
Allison Pell so I am not the only one to call it Treason Day. :-)
Remember, if not for that treason, all of Europe would be speaking German now.. we didn't win the war by ourselves, but without us the Germans may well would have won it.
Ja eist der Treason Day of der Amis
On Canada Day. I bought Haida but did not play her till later that night as I had already planned to visit Haida IRL. I do love my Cobra Chicken
I want to marry this angry little ship.
Thank you for paying this ship such a level of respect. I had a hard time keeping that lump in my throat under control.
The RAN and RCN didn't have our own Ensigns until the mid-1960's. I have no issues flying the British White Ensign from them in WoWs
Fafnir
That's because the White Ensign is the historically correct flag for this ships. It's what they actually flew when going into combat.
Thanks the Great show of game play and historical commentary, really enjoyed it.
Cheers.
So they litteraly paste the flag on the ship but can't put the actual flag on it ?
What ?
gwanael34 Commonwealth ships should be able to change the flag to any commonwealth country that the ship faught under.
So Haida being a Tribal should be able to equipthe RN, RCN and RAN ensigns of both imperial and cold war.
They are going to fix this later on when the pan American line comes
You can absolutely fly the time-appropriate RCN ensign on the Haida. Jingles is just being Jingles, he's confused because there's no maple leaf on it.
Absolutely.. as an Australian, my Perth and Vampire fly the British White Ensign just as they did when they were commissioned in the RAN. Like the RCN, we didn't get our own Ensign until the mid 1960's ('67) for us.
Jingles, I love that you added LWM's avatar to the video. It seemed absolutely proper to do this, so kudos to you, Rear Admiral.
I get up to this on my day off gonna be a good day me thinks :)
Just want to point out Jingles, Iroquois is pronounced eero-kwah.
Grizz Axxemann I've always heard it Ear-uh-koi
NWTactical to be fair the way I know it is probably because I live in the south and we says stuff real properly down heres
As a Canadian I agree with Grizz, grinds my gears when Mighty says it the other way.
Iroquois Plisskin can show you how to say it because his name is that! There you go, explanation done.
I really shouldn't have found this hilarious, but damn I did. Thumbs up mate.
It would be nice to see a historian take this and complete it with information on the fighting crew of the Haida. Nice video Jingles. Interesting bit of history.
Jingles, you know you can change the Flag of Commonwealth and Pan-Asian ships to the actual flag they fought under in the exterior tab right?
I love these historical information videos, Jingles. Please keep them up in the future!!! You're the best!
Ah Canada, our neighbor, no - friend and ally to the north :) We love ya
TheDesertScrub we're all three of those :)
Right back at you.
What a beautiful story.. I'm so proud of my countries history especially in WW2. You told it so well jingles. Much love from canada
"T" stands for Torpedoboot - Torpedo Boat. Destroyers have the character "Z" for Zerstörer - Destroyer as thier id.
@@dasmorbo3508 This class of T-boat was smaller as any allied destroyer class since WW1 withe the exception of destroyer escorts.
@@norbertblackrain2379 Yeah, so you confirmed your own involuntary statement again that they are in fact destroyer escorts called torpedo boats. ^^
Canada is here to kick ass. Like we always do
James Sylvestre except for the Stanley Cup finals for the last 25 years
counterfit5 a lot of the players in the NHL are Canadians, so even if the team that wins is “American” it’s still a Canadian win
counterfit5 if you want I could start naming Canadians on those teams.
James Sylvestre and the we apologize afterwards
Thanks for the shout out for my beloved RAN Jingles.
It is currently 2 30 in the morning but i must support my country

Awesome video! Just came across this one, thanks for all the effort. ! Really enjoy the history of famous warships 👍
Destroyer Haida: how to flush proper camouflage down the toilet
Alias No.1425 the unfortunate part is that wasn't even Canada's flag during world war 2 as we only released ourself from colonization close to the end of the war
The date you are looking for is 1931, the Statute of Westminster. The flag was changed later to be politically correct for the Froggies.
+Olivier R.
+Barrettus
Actually, calling the French frogs refers to the decorative frogging the French army put on the sleeves of their troops' uniforms in the 1800s to stop said troops from wiping their noses on their sleeves.
It has nothing whatsoever to do with amphibians.
That's just another uninformed myth that grew out of the total ignorance oft utilized by the lumpenproletariat as "common knowledge."
I lived in Paris for four years. The term has nothing to do with any of the faubourgs de Paris.
We took a tour of this ship here in Hamilton, Ontario. It is moored at Pier 10 just off Burlington Street.
ZH-1 was Gerard Callenburgh, not Tjerk Hiddes.
And please , let there be soon some Dutch ships ingame..
HI Lert! I see Mouse finally let you out of your box :3
Thank you, I love this episode. I hope you do more shows like this. I love the history.
I'll ask again jingles why is kirishima your waifu and not her sisters?
Kekistani citizen #001 Maybe because they're both megane?
If you watch the first episode he mentions that. It's the glasses
The first episode of what? I'm ashamed I don't know where the Kirishima thing comes from, I've been away for a bit...
Because she's prettier than her sisters.
Haruna best waifu
So in other words: This is the kind of ship they should've given away in the stead of the Flint
Cheers for the shout out for the Royal Australian Navy it means a lot to me as a relative of mine served in the atlantic
Newcastle is Jingles home town? Wait what? Where's the Geordie accent? ;)
In an older video he said he lost it over time after living away from Newcastle for many years but can bring it back (I don't know how well) when he's in town visiting family.
Interesting! the More you know eh! XD
I love this historical video's of yours. I wish you would do more of this.
That moment your offhandedly correcting his pronunciation.. because canadian :D
Even this Yank knows how to say Iroquois.
Thanks Jingles. While i didn't serve in WW2 in the RCN,i did serve in the 1980's.So,from one sailor to another,i thank you for your service and this awesome video.Keep up the great work.
HMCS Ontario when.
Wait, CANADA has a WARSHIP?
Like, for WAR?
... does Canada know?
Sim. Frischh probably not..
Hey, it's Canada, not Switzerland. When push comes to shove, the Canucks will shove right back. Very politely, of course...
Canada used to be quite heavily armed and lots of Canadians fought in WWII.
Ah, now there are some good answers ;)
Each shell and bullet had the word sorry inscribed on it.
Awesome opening sequence and thank you for that work on our ship
And now WoW has a new ship type, the Lightship. Is there to prevent people pulling a Notser.
What a bizarre camouflage.
No more bizarre than the Stars and Stripes and Lone Star camos for Texas, Red October for Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya, Maid of Orleans for Richelieu and Gascogne, etc. Several ships have "patriotic" alternate camos that are available.
@jingles my English grandfather served in the RCN on destroyers for the duration of WW2. Your narration on the Haida had me weeping. Thank you.
Also, the Royal Canadian Navy’s ensign on my Uncle’s boat.

MajesticDemonLord Achilles is one that springs to mind. Leander class iirc.

Hahahaha! My first thought as this video started was "who is performing the anthem?" and "is there going to be a claims issue?" Made me laugh out loud when you mentioned that at the end!
happy july 4th

what is this north Montana national anthem playing
Eh happy birthday America but I will always be 3 days older than you ;)
The Americans laughed silly Canada that's not how years work. Love you guys though

I just wish this video game out on Canada Day
Nobody suspects the Canadians....
And that's why we (usually) win :p
@ Tahroo
And we like it that way....
Used to be in the 2814 RCAC. My base, HMCS Star, was beside the beauty herself. I always wanted to go for a tour, but never had time. Glad to see she's in the game finally!
Posts a video about a Canadian destroyer on July 4, American Independence Day, instead of 3 days ago on, you know, Canada Day. Oh Jingles, you so silly...
Nope, was posted on the 3rd.
Awesome vid Jingles, thank you from Kingston, Ontario, and thank you Little White Mouse for helping get our ship out and making sure it didnt suck!👍
ok..i cant pass this up
isnt the canadian navy kinda like the jamacian bobsled team?
being the fightingest ship in the canadian navy is kinda like being the worlds tallest dwarf ....
ok ile head back to the salt mines
Your salt quota is quadrupled for that.
TallulahSoie triggered
I believe Canada had the 4th largest navy by the end of WW2 so this comment is kinda dumb
Third largest, my bad
Nah, not at all. Jamaican bobsleigh team is more famous than that.
Thank you for posting this, I have not seen anything post about or involved with Canada. We recently celebrated our centennial (Canada Day) and zero TH-cam channels acknowledged it yet today (4th of July ) people are falling all over themselves to acknowledge the American holiday. Great video and thanks again
Notice me Jingles senpai
Thank you, Jingles for a thorough and enjoyable review (with a nod to fellow Canadian Little White Mouse) and for your tribute to the Royal Canadian Navy and those of other Commonwealth nations that took part. It is appreciated.
I'm buying the Haida fully kitted out today.
Iroquoi is pronounced Ere-o-kwaw
Only if you are Canadian. I too, pronounce Iroquoi, as I see it. Blame the Helicopter, not the messenger :-)
It’s ere-o-kwaw only if you’re que-be-kwaw.
Americans pronounce it different, which Jingles did not use either so he was wrong either way BUT since the HMCS Iroquois was a Canadian ship, the Canadian pronouncement should be used. irekwa
Well Jingles, you did your country and service proud. The explanation was impeccable.
Can you imagine 2 or 3 haidas moving in smoke for the whole match? Ridiculous...
Already done this in Perth and huang he
How is this ship not overpowered. It is simply better than any other t7 dd. It's super stupid.
What cons not listed here does the wargaming wiki say? What? It needs IFHE? As far as I know there is next to no ship in the game with an armour value of 20, so these shells penetrate just as much armour as 127mm guns, since you need to subtract 1 to find what you can penetrate.
Lt. Voss this power creep pisses me off
Thanks Jingles! Born in Kent now living Alberta also a proud former Royal Canadian Cadet o7 much appreciated.
I don’t see a point of buying haida over the sims, other than its being the only commonwealth destroyer
I know it has that “different” smoke screen, but sims win for me at least.
Except the Vampire of course :)
Robert Pettigrew yeah right, how I forgot that badboy.. now i look like an idiot.
Lt.Black-Fire well to me just cause its the only canadian ship in game thats reason enuff for me
Love the paint job on the Haida it’s on my bucket list to see her hopefully here soon
