It's true. God 'gave' the Devil authority down here. But for a limited time only...
Six months to get baptized is quite a long time to be stuck with mortal sin
I no longer go to Mass, and I don't feel guilty. Yet when I did go to Daily Mass, I had a Bishop who wasn't "Conservative" in any sense. Yet he was public in his expectation that Rectories were occupied as often as possible, even small ones. And now Bishop Sheen explains to me why?

The greatest deception of Satan is purgatory one wakes and finds flames all around thinks I'm in purgatory hope my friends and family pray me out. Sad thing is that one is in hell and doesn't even know it.

The Devil is a very touchy subject, especially these days, as a prominent and very dangerous formidable force in this world, deadly as all hell and poison combined, commanding, deserving, and worthy of great respect and admiration, but never adoration, because that is what the Bible says the Devil commands, to be adored, worshipped, loved, and prayed over, so don't do it, to admire it is my choice, whether it's right or wrong to admire, I dont know, but until someone smarter than the Devil tells me otherwise, I'm going to continue doing so, because I cannot help but admire the Devil for it's genius, it's cunning, and its endless diabolical tactics, relentless, constant, tireless attacks on all life at all times, 24/7, 10 days a week, I admire the Devil for it's stamina and infinite abilities to kill, hurt, destroy, and maim anything, or anyone it wants to, at anyplace or anytime, because that's it's job, that's what it does for a living, and it is an expert at death, it's ultimate goal, lying, cheating, and deceiving in order to achieve it. It does not lie for amusement or for the sake of lying, rather, it lies for the sole purpose of killing, to make as many kills and cause as many unwanted deaths as possible, as hard, and as violent, and as furious as it possibly can, all the time, non stop and merciless deaths, the only good thing the Devil has going for itself is equality, it hates everybody equally just the same, impartial, without favorites or prejudice, including it's followers, and ultimately including itself, because when it runs out of things to kill, it then kills itself in an ancient war against itself, a war that can only be lost, a war that can never be won, a war ended without a victory, a spiritual suicide that ends only in eternal death, forever, a state otherwise known as the"Boogieman", that's it. One of my favorite subjects for conversation and study, I have learned quite a lot about the Devil, and also from it. I've learned it's something not to play with or approach, ever, because it means business, and it's not anybody's friend, ever, because it does not have nor ever will have have friends. I had thought devil didn't exist, but it was all about our choices until one day in dream Jesus showed me( I was watching Jesus and angels( young white men in long whte vestments and in modern haircut. jesus was standing alone in the corner of this wall where I was. Jesus in long white vestment, long wavy hair, and also looking down at his palm which were gatheted together under his chin. One scene was an angel on a thick cable enterimg into a large room that moment pitch blaxk thing moved toward the baby angel like a snake and touched the angel. I heard baby cry once. Devil was without head or tail but wide black . The end of this dream, Jesus answered my question. So, I knew Devil is in the church to disrupting the mass or worship. Why Jesus had to show me this in order to answer my question, I have no answer. I had asked Jesus, " .....What do I have to do strengthen my faith?" before I went to bed.

The devil knows the Word of God more than any man. His greatest trick is to convince someone to change the Word of God. The devil started convincing the catholic church to change the Word of God as soon as they began calling themselves catholics instead of christians. Removing God's 2nd Commandment is evidence of the devil's hold on the catholic church.
The quote from Charles Baudelaire is often repeated but I think it is a fundamentally flawed philosophical position.
If God really wants everyone to worship Him based upon faith rather than having to physically show up here on Earth (especially now in such a connected age) then all 'the Devil' needs to do is to prove his own existence to humanity which will, by extension, (having proven that celestial beings do exist) prove the existence of God, therefore completely undermining his will to have us believe based only on faith as we would then have proof...
And it could be argued that the quote is from a time long before interconnected media but the point is timeless. The Devil could have been openly living amongst us for millennia, undermining God's need for faith the whole time.

The reason it seems to you "fundamentally flawed" is you're applying your own philosophy and not that of the bible or indeed truth. Satan doesn't have carte blanche. He is ultimately restricted. Like all evil that God willed to exist it ultimately continues to exist for God's purpose of affecting his own glory. Seen in that context it's not at all surprising that Satan or any demon aren't jumping out from behind every corner.

No, you are confusing and deluding yourself. Think about this logically, "belief" in the devil as you're putting it has nothing to do with his existence which is ultimately a truth. He exists or does not exist, there is no safe ground you can sit yourself upon that will allow you to hide. It's just mental contortions that is helping you to reconcile the fact there is pure evil in this world.
Also his power is not related to belief, it is according to what God allows. It might be related to additional rights he is granted by God which depends on what people are doing that invites the devil into their lives. But don't confuse that with belief because it's not the same mechanism at all. The Devil can deal with a total disbeliever very well which should be proof enough of this concept - denial of existence is not the right way to combat evil.
