Star Wars: The Force Awakens (also known as Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens) is a 2015 American epic space opera film co-produced, co-written, and directed by J. J. Abrams. The sequel to Return of the Jedi (1983), it is the seventh film in the "Skywalker Saga". Set thirty years after Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens follows Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, and Han Solo's search for Luke Skywalker and their fight in the Resistance, led by General Leia Organa and veterans of the Rebel Alliance, against Kylo Ren and the First Order, a successor to the Galactic Empire. Peter Mayhew did indeed portray Chewbacca one last time in The Force Awakens. He retired from the role in 2017, passing the baton to Finish actor Joonas Suotamo. RIP Peter
Peter Mayhew was only in the scenes where he was sitting down, the Finnish actor played Chewie for most of The Force Awakens too. Mayhew retired from the role after this film, which was 2015.
Peter played Chewie in some scenes (health; hip-replacement joints, age) and Joonas did the more active scenes -then continued in "Solo" and the next two episodes. Joonas has been a pro-Basketball athlete, from Finland. There is an extra on the Blu-ray of "Solo" showing how J'S' worked and learned to be Chewbacca, including him in Wokkie dunking a Basketball ☺

The storm trooper who lets her out of the chair and leaves his gun is Daniel Craig (James Bond). Small role. He just wanted to be in a Star Wars movie
I believe the script refers to that particular Stormtrooper as "JB-007". There's no spoken reference and Craig's cameo is uncredited.

Last night I watched the movie The Command on Amazon Prime about the Russian sub Kursk accident, and he plays the top Russian commander (admiral?) who keeps the British and Norwegians from helping rescue the sailors.

"I've got a bad feeling about this" is said in every episodic movie.
In the standalone movies, they play a bit with this. In Rogue One, K2 starts saying it and gets shooed, and in Han Solo Han says, "I've got a good feeling about this"
In The Last Jedi BB8 says it.

"He might not even say anything." - Mark Hamil said that when he found out he wouldn't have any lines in this movie he was kind of amused that he was still required to be present for the table read of the script with all of the cast. Mark said he began referring to it not as a table READ but as a "table listen" in his case.
A table listen to the myriad ways they were going to ruin his character.

Chewie is basically just a dog. He's a sentient creature, but otherwise he's very loyal, and like many breeds, very vicious when necessary.

@@popcornroulettereactions There was a fan made comic strip on Tumblr in which we see Chewie caring for Ben as he's growing up, and then we see the scene where he shoots him, and he intentionally doesn't shoot to kill.
I expected Luke to ask "There was a hand too, did you bring that also?" on the first watch.
Kevin Smith, the director of 'Clerks', 'Mallrats', 'Jay and Silent Bob', etc related how he was invited to visit the set of this movie and when he had stepped into the Millennium Falcon's interior, he broke down and sobbed like a baby. I think all of us who've loved Star Wars since 1977 know what he felt and understand why it was so emotionally impactful for him. This movie tugged me so hard in so many different directions, I must've shed a gallon of tears sitting in the theater. Thank you once again Coby for sharing your emotional journey through these films with us. It's been really cathartic for me in ways I don't really understand but definitely appreciate. Can't wait to watch 'The Last Jedi' with you. "Do it. Do it now!" LOL You're a treasure.

Fun fact: Fin’s Stormtrooper number, the 2187, is the same number cell Princess Leia was being held in on the Death Star in ep4
Peter Mayhew did pass away. This was his last film as Chewbacca. I actually live 4 minutes from where he’s buried.
But he passed away in 2019, april, 30th. He was still alive by the making of this movie. Sadly that was not the case for the next one. If he was still alive, he was in no condition to play Chewbacca anymore.
@@AXSLA3 He was barely in The Force Awakens since he could barely walk anymore and had a lot of health issues. Most of the time it was this young actor who played Chewie in the other sequels and in "Solo". They basically put Mayhew in a few shots so they could promote this movie with him, as a proper reunion of all the old cast.
@@georgezee5173 Basicaly you will have Peter Mayhew the few tims Chewie is seated, and only has to "roar" some lines. I know that. Everythime Chewie is standing is the other actor.
Carrie Fisher said in an interview that the producers wanted her to lose weight for the role. "They wanted to hire about 3/4 of me. They said: The fourth can't be with you." 😂😂😂

Harrison agreed to do this movie only on the condition that Han Solo is killed.
He wanted them to kill Han back in 1983. The only thing that disappointed me was that he had always thought Han should die in a moment of heroic self-sacrifice. Definitely not what happens here. Here it seems sort of cheap.
It kinda is heroic self sacrifice. He loves Leia an their son but knows how incredibly dangerous Kylo is. But Leia asked him to get their son back and he tries it, knowing it could be very dangerous. It's kinda what Luke tries when he surrenders to Vader in VI (you know it has to rhyme) but although Han believes it to work for a second - it is not. It's very tragic. I think It's an incredible scene and like the duel on Bespin, the Canto Bight mission, Qi'ras departure or Rogue One shows us, that not always everything is working. It's life.
I remember the "star wars media swing" all the actors did for Force Awakens, talk shows etc. Harrison leaked it so I knew in March of that year that when I saw the movie in December that Han would be killed off.

Yeah I know I wish there was more trade federation, jar jar child actors, 10 minute pod races, sand, wooden actors and cgi sets with people sitting in rooms and talking. Lucas didn't fuck up star wars at all.
The island, where Luke is in isolation, is off the coast of Ireland. It is a World-heritage protected location. If one takes a tour, there is a limit, of people who can be on the island at one time - same as actors and film crew. The Irish island is where Christian Monks lived, centuries past, in isolation - so, a Jedi, alone, it works. Next movie!
Simon Pegg is only the second actor to complete the "Sci-Fi/Fantasy Trifecta" of Doctor Who, Star Trek (the reboot movies with Chris Pine), and Star Wars.
I loved that Chewie got to use his bowcaster. Coby has some dark side in her. 😂
Except the bowcaster was shown to cartwheel armored humans 17 feet through the air when shot but also barely affects an unarmored human on a narrow rail-less span of metal 2,000 feet above an abyss. cool cool cool So glad they included all of that
Every time I see Rey do the jedi mind trick on the stormtrooper I laugh knowing that he's Daniel Craig.
Me I'm laughing when after first attempt her expression is like "what I did wrong?" Second, after she succeeds, she's like "Oh, Santa is leaving, one more wish: and you'll drop your weapon!" and - the top one - Craig's "Aaaaaaand I will drop my weapon" :)))
YES,here we go again on another star wars adventure with Coby. keep them coming please. love her reactions. the only thing your missing is the 32 year waiting which had a huge impact on seeing han,leia,luke and the falcon again after al those years sinds return of the jedi in 1983.
That was Peter Mayhew playing Chewbacca. At least some of the time. He had double knee replacement surgery before filming began and was largely wheelchair bound during filming so he shared the role with another actor. When he died of a heart attack in 2019 the other actor took over the role.
WOW... I was shocked with that Flight of the Navigator reference. I would have never thought she seen that movie. 👍
I always thought the silver Naboo ships were a ripoff of the one from Flight of the Navigator.
You should check out the Obi Wan series Coby. It takes place about ten years before the events of Rogue One.
I have to say, this is my favorite Star Wars movie. Not for any reasons I can argue with but simply because it makes me the happiest. It reminds me of a simpler time when the whole world pretty much was hyped for the new Star Wars movie. Merch was everywhere, people were saying may the force be with you often, the Disney parks were going nuts with awesome promotional stuff. Fans old and new came together for an altogether super fun movie and it was a Christmas blockbuster. I saw it in the theater 6 times with different people and it was magical each time. So yeah, this movie puts the biggest smile on my face because I was there for it and I just love it

The biggest problem is that it's just A New Hope all over again, but I think most people would be happy with it if they never saw any other Star Wars movie, or simply didn't think too hard about it. Once you do start thinking about it is when it loses some points, but it's still perfectly fine. I'll happily rewatch it every two years or so. As for the other two movies.... Arrrrgggg.... I only saw The Last Jedi once, and really only half saw The Rise of Skywalker, with no desire to ever watch either again.
@KenMathis1 - YES! Exactly all of this. I enjoyed TFA as well and am okay with it being essentially a retelling of ANH as Star Wars, imo, mirrors itself every generation or two. I liken it to The Matrix reloading every now and then. 8 and 9, though... not my favorite. Luke's supposed to represent unending hope in the face of insurmountable odds. He even utters the line "Always get up" in another Disney production (I don't want to spoil it for Coby in case she watches it). Luke's thought process snd character arc in the sequel trilogy just isn't the Luke we all are familiar with. That was my biggest issue with this trilogy. That and of all 9 parts are considered "The Skywalker Saga", the antagonist should have been something to do with the spirit or legacy of Vader, rather than what they went with (again trying not to spoil anything for Coby in case she happens to read comments). And Rey should have been Han and Leia's daughter, the film version of Jaina. Not what we got.

She's an actress who has read & studied many scripts and knows filmmaking and the movie business. She watches these films with an analytical perspective, from someone in the movie business. A lot of these scripts & movies, to someone in the business, are probably very predictable, formulaic, and cookie-cutter to someone like her. (Just like I, as a software engineer and data analyst, look at software, including websites, and "data" with a more analytical eye than someone who doesn't have that kind of training and experience).

I was 9 years old in '77, and seeing Star Wars in the theater made me a sci-fi fan for life. I also understand why some people don't like these movies, but too bad. I do. Fun to watch it with you Coby, as always.
This is the best of the new trilogy.

5:05 - I'm actually surprised you don't recognize this actor, since you seem to know everyone, and he's been in over 150 films. That's Max von Sydow. He was the Devil in Needful Things, the ancient king in Conan the Barbarian, Dr. Kynes in the original version of Dune, Emperor Ming in Flash Gordon, Father Merrin in The Exorcist... he did some voice work on The Simpsons and games like Skyrim, also. He's an extremely recognizable person/voice IMO, and he's been in everything.
His most memorable role is definitely as Father Merrin in The Exorcist.

Happy to see you continue your Star Wars journey! I was too young to see the Original Trilogy in theaters but I did see the Prequels and Sequels there. They did have some good ideas in this one and that's all I will say lol
Killing off Han took away our only opportunity to get Luke, Han and Leia together in a scene together one more time. 😢😢😢

Finn became my favorite so fast; good-natured, brave, funny, gentlemanly
I didn't like the prequels, so this was a breath of fresh air.
It even seemed to have some expanded universe novel mentality about its handling.
But oddly, after a few views on bluray, I started quickly getting bored.
I found that very interesting.
I don't know how anyone can watch the same thing so many times when there's so many things they haven't seen lol

Earlier in the movie, Han gives Chewie a hard time over the fact that Chewie's feeling cold & he's got all that fur! So then when Han arrives at Star-Killer Base, he tosses his Jacket on the elevator, then as they're about to leave, Chewie picks up Han's Jacket & passes it back to him...., you know looking our for his buddy because the surface is cold! 🤣Harrison Ford's look of surprise at this gesture was because when Peter Mayhew picks up the jacket & gives it to him, is was totally improv & not scripted 😀😍
My biggest problem with this movie is, at the end, Leah walks right by Chewbacca and hugs Rey like she knows her. It’s just a weird choice they made with that scene. Chewy is always getting the shaft. He doesn’t get a medal in “A New Hope” and Leah doesn’t care that Chewy just lost his best friend and walks by him to hug a strange.

Remember that the opening crawl tells you what's happening in the story, (characters, locations), JAKU, they told you what planet they were on, not just backstory to be read.
You’ll actually find more older fans willing to admit this was a great film, oddly though the next film in the trilogy is the one that is highly divisive and contested amongst fans. You’ll see for yourself what happens, and we’ll all get to see if you agree or not with the choices they made following The Force Awakens.
I’m one of those original fans who saw “Star Wars” about 50 times in the theater. I liked Force Awakens at the time. I thought it was completely unoriginal but the new characters were likable and I was curious to see where the story would go. Unfortunately….
@drew I remember watching this in theater with buddy and feeling very meh. It felt very much like episode 4 but unoriginal and not as entertaining. I didn't have high hopes but was very disappointed that we have entire galaxy with unlimited potential and story telling but instead we are stuck on same time line rehashing these stories. Feels like a squander universe when can make anything but only want to go back to same old stuff.
The New Hope arrived in my country in autumn 1980, and for the whole week I've been in the theater every evening, lol. I highly enjoyed TFA when was released and I've rewatched it many times - never got bored, I've always enjoying it.
You see her in the beginning Scavenging for all those parts right she knew all those crashed spaceships like the back of her hand

The sanitation position that Finn (FN-2187) held is an homage to the line from the film Clerks, "Do you think the average stormtrooper knows how to install a toilet main? All they know is killing and white uniforms."

The black bag you thought was a cloak or a disguise was filled with explosives.... But you did a great job of figuring out most of it. 😁 Behind the scenes note: Harrison Ford was always surprised that his character survived through all of it. Rumor has it that he'd always wanted Han Solo to die, so it was no problem for Harrison Ford to be written off that way.

I strongly believe this movie would’ve been rated a lot better among Star Wars fans had the next 2 movies not been bad
This movie actually established a lot of cool concepts that the next 2 either didn’t expand on or just ruined completely and the reason for that was they switched directors in ep8
I enjoyed all the movies,original trilogy,prequels and this second trilogy...I'm not a hardcore Star War fan,I just like them for what they are.I don't find 'fault' with them.

So endearing and enchanting! 😍 Glad you like Star Wars....I wish we could get you into Star Trek as well -- I go both ways myself, lol -- but I don't know that it's compatible with the format of Popcorn Roulette....and it would take forever for you to watch even just the "key episodes" from each season of each series....I guess you would have to watch only the movies, but then that's taking context away! Sigh. Oh well, I do love both, and glad to see you at least on a Star Wars journey 🙂
Don’t let the sequel haters taint your experience. Watch the whole trilogy and make your own opinion. All three of them have something to offer.

I'm one of the ones who liked this trilogy a lot. Don't listen to people pointing out all the things they don't like about the approach or the lore and just enjoy it for yourself. I really liked the new characters. Great reaction and I'll be here for whatever is next.
The dislike of this trilogy is pretty well justified.
Imagine if someone broke into your house, rearranged the furniture and decorations, brought some of their own in, threw a tantrum in some some of the rooms, left, called the next day to ask "did I do good?", then called you names when you said you didn't like it.
That's what Disney did to Star Wars.

I'm just saying nobody should sour someone on watching and enjoying the trilogy on it's own merits not based on things that don't matter to her. I am a big Star Wars fan and saw all of them in the theater and have read several of the books and watched all the shows. It's not wrong for people to enjoy movies without the biases of super fans who know all of the lore and the universe and seem to take offense when people do like it because they hate it soooo much.

When they return to the base there was a scene that was cut out between Leia and Chewie. They hugged and Leia reportedly says, "It's just us now." Or something to that effect. That would have started the waterworks for me.
Grumpy Han Solo is my favourite incarnation of all of Han Solo, which is why I'm bummed we were robbed from having more of him.
This is the best of the three Sequel movies. But that's not saying a lot.

Don't be ashamed for liking the new Star wars :) I really like them, too. In some ways they are better than 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Not too many ways, but some. Like the way you felt when Han got on board the millennium falcon. I felt those feelings, too.

Not only do I agree my first thought after seeing Last Jedi is this is tied for Empire for best Star Wars Movie, and that has not changed at any point. Rise of skywalker is more checkmarky thanks to "Fans" but I still think there's a good cohesive story there that carries forward the themes I was seeing in the sequels, plus getting the return of a certain someone meant getting his actor back too and he's always amazing in the role.
I enjoy watching Coby react to films.
But it’s heartbreaking to watch Coby go on a journey to watch the planned and orchestrated destruction of a beautiful franchise in this Sequel Trilogy.

I don’t care what haters say. This movie was SO FUN. One of the best theatrical experiences ever. The lead up, the excitement, and then it kicked a lot of ass. I’m a huge fan of this movie.

In hindsight, a lot of people hate these movies. But when it came out, people were extremely excited. It broke all sorts of box office records.
The problem with this trilogy is the plan from the beginning was to have three directors with three visions. With the previous two, Lucas, even if he didn't write and direct each movie, was able to present a coherent vision.
I liked this movie. I loved The Last Jedi. I hated Rise of Skywalker.

The problem with the trilogy is JJ's ego and lack of creativity. How he managed to rip off New Hope and mess up the ending by not leaving room for a time skip bewilders me.

I noticed that you were caught off guard of Kylo/Ben killing his father, Han. But interesting fact is that Harrison Ford wanted it written in the screenplay because he felt it was time to kill off Han.

Well Coby now all you have to do is watch 2 movies, 6 live action series on Disney+ and 4 CGI animated series and then you would experience all the major storyline threads to Star Wars. But please don't feel overwhelmed.
Unfortunately you won't find out who Rey is until Episode 9. They wanted to keep everyone in suspense.
A Star Wars movie isn’t supposed to end on a cliff hanger. They should be wrapped up and do a long time jump for the next episode. Another reason this isn’t a real Star Wars movie.
You're new in Star Wars franchise, aren't you? Otherwise you would remember in prequels an ending "Which was destroyed? The master? Or the apprentice?"
Peter Mayhew was in the suit some of the time but he passed away sometime after the movie was released. His replacement was Joonas Suotamo, and he was Chewbacca for the remainder of the sequels and Solo. And I think he was also in the Acolyte as Master Kelnacca.
Original Trilogy: The first child that everyone finds Handsome and Cute since he was little, everyone lines up to see him. As he gets older, his charm has never faded.
Prequel Trilogy: The one who is not as handsome as his big brother, or that many thought he was an ugly duckling compared to him. He had a difficult childhood, but as he grew up, we can admit that he gained some confidence, and charm despite everything.
Sequel Trilogy: The last little brother who seems handsome and cute physically, but who daydreams about his older brother. So much so that he takes on the same facial and behavioral expressions to look like him. As he grows up, he has an identity crisis, and begins to change his personality, but does not know how to deal with it. So he starts taking drugs, which causes to become incoherent with himself. People don't know how it will end for him in the future yet.

This one isn't so bad. The only real gripe I have with this movie is that Rey doesn't have ANY faults. She is just gifted in every possible way and it only gets worse from here, imo. The next two movies shouldn't even be in the Star Wars franchise at all. I don't think I could even sit through a reaction of yours if you do decide to watch them. Cheers!
