@@snowflakehunterthe single of 1978 was recorded with 9 sets of their voices and this was released on the album the next year. But I thought this video was the UNICEF concert they did live. Would be strange if they were lip syncing to the official track while the orchestra pretended to play their instruments.

@@davidplanet3919 this obviously is not the UNICEF version. This is an official music video. As with all official videos this was done in a studio. Multiple tracks are always done and then they blend the track together to make it sound as good as it does. Get yourself an education on how this is done. I have worked in the broadcasting industry for over 15 years and I know exactly how all of this is done. Get educated.

Sometimes, newer fans don’t realize that the “BeeGees” are 3 brothers. Maurice and Robin are twins (the shorter two). Barry, usually in the middle and taller of the three is the older brother. BeeGee’s…..or BG’s, stands for “Brothers Gibb”. Their last name is Gibb. They had another brother named Andy who passed away years ago. Sadly, Maurice and Robin have both also passed away, leaving only Barry left. This was one of the greatest performing groups of a wonderful era. You should listen to more of their very extensive library. Every song is perfectly performed. No auto tune for these guys.

Auto tune didn’t exist back then. In those days if you didn’t have talent you weren’t allowed anywhere near a mic. What a shame that music today is in the state it’s in. Yes there are some amazing artists today like Chris Stapleton, Aurora, Gary Clark Jr etc but overall music today can’t touch the music back then.

@@Ray1969.I actually think auto tune is the worst thing to ever happen to the music industry; and especially live music. Since few of the singers today can stay on pitch live they started to add more and more choreography to live shows. Now they're more akin to musical theater than just music. Such a shame but I guess that's now what concertgoers want to see.

Robin and Maurice were fraternal twins, both deceased now, as is a younger brother, Andy. Andy was invited to join the Bee Gees, but opted for a solo career, which turned out nicely. All 3 had spectacular falsetto ranges - though Robin (on the left) also possessed an almost ethereal vibrato to his voice. For the purest sense of their talent, seek out their "One Night Only" show. In the middle they did a medley of a number of their songs (and they wrote hits for others as well as all their own) with just the 3 of them standing around a single microphone (much like this video) and a guitar. During a snippet of "Knights on Broadway" there's a spine-chilling harmony with Maurice (the one on the right in this video) doing the falsetto and shortly after as they step away from the mic a little you'll notice Robin turn and give a nod "nice one" in appreciation.

No offense to the young and uninformed. THERE WAS NO SUCH THING AS AUTOTUNE IN THE 70'S OR 80'S. If you couldn't sing in tune you didn’t sing period. 😮

Right you are! In those days, you were either good or gone--survival of the fittest! Today, "singers" don't need talent to succeed. Good looks, autotune, and a big promotion budget is all it takes...and the result compares poorly with the "golden era" of popular music: '50s through '80s.

No auto tune, no filters, live, no retakes...the Brothers Gibb (Bee Gees) were incredibly talented. The 2 on the outside were twins, Maurice and Robin, and Barry was just high note insane. Unfortunately the twins died much too soon from medical issues 😢. Just Puck any of their songs, you'll be impressed. A must do is Staying Alive.

Just came across your channel by accident, but happy that I did. First, good luck to you and the channel.
Now, regarding the Bee Gees ... you likely have heard some of their hits but may not have known it was them singing. Some other comments below mine have already mentioned several of their tracks. These guys were one of the biggest bands in the 70s. Barry Gibb (the main singer there in the center) is the king of falsetto. I wouldn't be surprised if he is the "standard" people compare that vocal tone against ... or at least one of them.
You are correct, no auto tune. That didn't exist until ... like the late 90s? Early 2000s? This is just raw, pure talent. Oh, and another thing you should go back and watch it again. You will see that all three of these guys are just relaxed singing the song. Barry was like swag personified in his day. Him just rocking to the music, thumbs in his bell bottoms and then casually leaning forward to sing. I mean, come on.
Anyway, I wish you nothing but success!

No auto tune existed at that time. They donated all the proceeds of this song to UNICEF. They were not only talented singers, songwriters and producers but great humanitarians. Another example of this is their song Blue Island (for children of war torn Bosnia), and South Dakota morning written because of devastation caused by wildfires. Check out Medley in 1989 Melbourne. ❤

Pleasure to watch your reaction to the Bee Gees 😍
Barry middle was 9yrs old twins were 6 when they start singing in unison, wow that himself is just amazing.. Their mother and father were musicians. They also have an older sister who did sing with them in their early days, but decided it wasn’t for her and 4 brother Andy Gibb but much younger than all of them became a forced to reckon with all on his own sadly, he died at 30 years old, and of course the twins have passed their sister still alive. Mother and father have passed on… rest in peace..
Amazing family of talent, every single one of them !!!
Barry has been married to the same lady for 50 years. That’s impressive as well.❤️
They wrote songs for Barbra Streisand, Dionne Warwick, Dolly Parton, Samantha Sang and many more songs through out there the people have no clue that they wrote…
I hope that Barry sees how amazing people have reacted to their gift in love especially this song has been very popular with the young folks. He has great meaning again bless you all.

No auto tune or pitch correct - far too early - you just had to get it right else no work. Look at the way they record, 3 men to 1 mic, absolutely no margin for error there. But they were the Bee Gees they got it right.

Maddy, this was 1979...the Bee Gees 1st mega hit, and it was MEGA after the disco era songs....these guys are just too awesome, and the studio they are recording in, right there, is the famous Criteria Studios in North Miami Beach....they recorded the whole Saturday Night Fever album there. Barry still lives with his bride of over 50 years in their LA Gorce (the name of the neighborhood in Miami Beach) mansion....it's beautiful !!!! I live in a western suburb of Miami

Maddy about one of the most dominant singing groups of all time: "They CAN SING""!
Just joking! The Bee Gees absolutely owned the Disco era, and the movie Saturday Night Fever with John Travolta cemented them as living legends. Their back-to-back dozen of #1 hits were so overplayed that there was eventually a backlash against disco, and they had to write #1 hits for other artists! Everything these brothers touched turned to gold, for a long, long time.
