- It's so nice to have this two blocks from my apartment in Kyiv. I love that the fruits and vegetables are sold farmer direct, and the prices are cheaper than at the supermarket, instead of the other way around. This market is every Sunday on John McCain street, yes named after, the former US Senator John McCain.

John McCain 🫡Sad he is not still with us 💔😢 . We need his voice for the times we are in 🇺🇸
Wow! In the US, I work at one of the largest farmers market in the Delaware Valley area (selling novelty gift). But they dont have nearly as much fresh produce as this Ukrainian farmer's market has. And most of the fruits that are available are imported. I love eating fresh and this farmer's market just looks incredible
It is so great to see that life still goes on in Ukraine, I definitely agree with McCain about Ukraine. That farmer's market puts the ones I used to go to in Sacramento to shame. That outdoor market in Kyiv is like its own big grocery store outside.
Used to visit Sacramento and San Jose area and remember how my friends there told lets go to farmers market u ll love it, i came there and it was pretty good but i invited them to Kyiv, the visited and they loved it here. Its one of the reason I came back to Ukraine after 7 months of war, i just cannot live in another countries. Ukraine is a food country and prices are wayyy better than in EU. Even i earn pretty american salary here, still i just dont think food should be expensive cause of corporations and their lobbying in parliaments

There are 12.8 million Ukrainians, living in Ukraine, living in poverty !
❤ John McCain. How nice of Ukraine to honor his memory.
Thanks for showing that. ❤
And the farmers mkt too! 🍎🍑🍒🍓🌶🫑🥕🌽
We love shopping at the farmers markets in Ukraine. The fruits and vegetables are always good quality and the taste is amazing. People back home in the United States don't even understand how blah fruits and vegetables taste there.
I thank you for acknowledging our beloved former Senator and war hero John Mc Cain III. One of the most honest, sincere and dedicated American public servants ever. May he rest in peace. He was an early and vocal supporter of Ukraine against Russian aggression. Maybe if he had been elected instead of Obama things would be very different today. .. Slava Ukraini!
Agreed! I'm proud to live next to his street!
@@JohnnyFD pa pa sounds a bit off to me from male to strangers. it is used mostly when talking to small children or between females who know each other well. though it may be your shtick as a foreighner to sound a bit comical when learning language. you can say pa to pal but not to complete stranger
actually it seems similar to English bye bye
McCain was a New World Order stooge posing as a patriot
Jesus, so true! 🤗 i wish the war is over , i dont know how , by miracle. But my biiig wish for foreigners to visit Ukraine more and see how cheap and fresh food can be and thats why we r so picky as refugees abroad . We are really a fresh meal country and we have so much , its just the soil, everything is growing here with no much effort needed
$20 USD! That's so incredibly cheap! Wait for me Johnny, I'm coming to Kyiv & buy you a beer or 3!
Johnny you are living a purposeful life and near such a resource for healthy food. You are gaining wellbeing and health each day. Thank you for your walks, eyewitness of life in Ukraine, your videos provide wellbeing to me too. 😊
Liked McCain for being a reasonable and decent man. Thanks for bringing us along, Johnny.
WOW!!! What a beautiful haul of pure perfection!! I, though it is more expensive than the conventional grocery stores, always hit the Farmers' Markets -- it's my way of honoring those that work and revere the land, and the produce is always far better quality --- It's "alive" with flavor, respect and love! When I lived in Northern Germany, I lived on a street where the open market was held every Saturday. I could tell the seasons by the produce offered for sale, and I did have my favorite vendors. It was a great way to hone my German language skills, and become part of the community. Glad you enjoy such beauty as well! Be well. 💕💕
Thank you Johnny for the video. Stay safe🇺🇦❤️🇺🇲
25:07 if it's dill, you cut it thin and put on potatoes (boiled) and some butter so you leave the potatoes fry a bit, amazing dish with a Kotlet (cutlet). I see the prices cheaper than in Poland to be honest with you.
Ukraine has a lot more local farmers and sellers than Poland which is a more expensive country in all aspects.
@@JohnnyFD it depends on the regions, I hope Ukraine doesn't became like Poland in a sense that there is work in "big cities" and outside of them there is only agriculture and that's all (like some McKinsey predictions about future of jobs in europe said about Europe and Poland).
John McCain was a true American hero!
For real the best farmers market in Kyiv - it’s a Stolychnyy Market in Teremky district.
There is an Ukrainian Disneyland of the food products 😁
Yep, Stolychnyy is one of the best and the prices are not as high as on Bessarabsky market. Everything is set apart in pavilions. Veggies and fruits are on the left side, a great variety of meat, sausages and fish is on the right.
You forgot to express the flavor of the fruit and vegetables. You can get anything like that in the USA. When I was living in Kyiv one of my girlfriends worked at a sidewalk stand close to where I live in Obolon. I many times went there and spent the day walking around and eating the fruits. The line at her street market always had a line and was always the longest because of the quality and price. I miss living in Ukraine. What a beautiful country and people. I so want the war to end soon. Слава Україні, Героям Слава. Нехай Бог благословить Україну and the USA.
Of yes, agreed, the tomatoes too!
Respect for buying all the stuff from the old lady. Those people are buying soap for that money....
Best vegetables I have seen!…so much cheaper than in Toronto Canada. Lol.
As a farmer, I really appreciate you supporting your local farmers !!!
My family has been farmers and coal minner for hundreds of years . I assume they did that when they came from Europe/UK/Ireland. We 🇺🇸 have to do more for our farmers ❤😊. I've watched some family members sell off the farm 🚜 to avoid bankruptcy 😢.
@@Kim-J312 It is a very hard lifestyle indeed.
Those peaches are teasing me! I haven't had decent peaches in years and you'd think Tennessee would be a good spot, but the orchard fruits are bland and mealy like at the stores.
Thank you for sharing your life in Ukraine.
today's prices of some fruits and vegetables in Wodonga ,Victoria [ Australia ] bananas $5.18 kg, bluberries 125g$10.38, strawberries 250g $7.78, persimmons $19.48 kg,
carrots $1.67 kg, corn $2.58 each, onions $3.23 kg, cabbage $7.78each, grocery prices seem to be increasing every few weeks.
Everything in Australia is expensive. But then again minimum wage is $24.10
@@JohnnyFD It’s expensive now due to cost of living rising. It wasn’t so bad 12 months ago. The government really needs to fix it.

Hi from Ukraine. Thanks for Your support!
Hello! You're welcome!
For awhile ago i started to changing eating habits so now lunch or dinner is always a salat. Also more fruits. Must be great to have local market that close to home. Take care and keep safe.!!!
That's a smart move =)
God bless Ukraine, may God stop the bullies..
McCain was a true american hero. How much could have been different if he was alive....
I think that's why he's not alive.
John McCain was probably the most honorable republican senator during Dumps time.
Once electricity is stable again, get a folding shopping cart. Thay really do save a lot of effort.
Yes, that's why I originally wanted to live in a suburb. If I end up meeting a nice girl and having kids, I will for sure.
John McCain, wonderful guy
Great clips of McCain.
Johnny got to get a high speed blender and make up some smoothies bro. Love farmer markets. Thanks again.
Thank you Johny for letting that lady go home early on such a hot day... 👍❤
I felt bad for her, she was sitting straight in the sun with no umbrella even!
Food taste much better there than in US supermarkets
Yes food tastes like Chernobyl
@@andrewcobra2000 always one ahole
Yeah because the plots have more nutritions. In US the fields have only grown one product and the soil is poor with nutritions. Also more pesticides etc. on the fields with only one plant grown 100 years
@@andrewcobra2000Uranium, as well as its decay products, are widely distributed on the planet. The same granite contains uranium, which means decay products. Radiation did not cause any special mutations in Chernobyl, the same mosquitoes, mice and ants, and they already have 1000+ generations since the explosion. But where the chemical industry works, there are problems with morbidity.
Blueberries start at about $6/lb outside of Washington DC.
Loved seeing you meet a subscriber!
Very nice market you have nearby, good prices and it looks like very nice produce and meats as well. Thank you for bringing us on this walk through your local farmer's market Johnny.
Yes, carrying heavy purchases home on foot is also one of the reasons why we don’t have a problem with obesity in Ukraine. And I will say that after dragging heavy purchases home, you feel tired, but there is something primal in this; you feel like a breadwinner and there is some kind of internal satisfaction that is not there if you do it by car)
There's something in our DNA that makes you feel satisfied after you've put in the effort to get food delivered to your home.
😅Это правда ! Как после охоты с копьем на мамонта! Привет из Киева😉
Yes agreed!!! And we tend not to over buy in this way either.
True! True! Once a week i go to farmers market - just prices are better than supermarket and taste is way better, and i m walking on purpose - just to exercise - even i have car . But i live next to water left bank of Kyiv and i always buy to much even not planning so. It feels satisfying to bring fresh food, healthy
$9 per pound of cherries at the Brentwood Farmers Market (Los Angeles). Now, at Whole Foods, dark cherries are $4.50 (sale) and $8.50 per lb of yellow cherries
Johnny FD, you should pool some funds and go stall to stall to buy 100 USD from each merchant. Food could be dispersed through all the groups you have worked with.
The carrots that aren't precleaned can be stored much longer. They had both at the market and if you buy them, you have to clean them anyway. Nice looking market and good to see that most of it had price tags so it's not a rip off 😁
I always buy the dirty carrots, they are so much better!
They are 😌 Purchasing some carrots (and other food) from an Ukrainian food market is on my bucket list 😎 They have such a rich soil, the taste must be amazingly delicious 😍
RIP MR MCAIN WE MISS YOU COME BACK HOME 😭😭❤️
Please 2 wagons of blueberries to Spain, about other fruits and vegetables, the prices are more or less the same as in Spain (at the pakistani sellers, nice and fresh)
In Norway it's even more expensive if you buy from a farm. There are no farmersmarkets in my part of the country. Currently strawberry prices costs between 4-6$ 500 grams
Wow pricey!
@@JohnnyFD And in the beginning of the season you pay from 8-10 dollars. I But came home from Copenhagen and Sweden, we were shocked because Denmark was so expensive. But Sweden was way cheaper on both food and random stuff. Off topic, men i gained 3 pounds whilst in Denmark, the food was very good. It's not a big deal, but i had problems putting on trousers. My son congratulated me for the effort. 🤣😇
Yes all the pork in Denmark much be great. It's surprising that's it's more expensive than Sweden though.
@@JohnnyFD it's due to the krone exchange rate. 100 DKR is 158 NKR and the same in Sweden. Our krone is weak.
Yeah i saw the prices in Norway for food, its hard to handle . Really
Thanks for a wonderful video. I've been to the USA one day, and what I noticed was. In the US, corn has that slightly sweet taste. In Ukraine, we mostly have a field (feed) corn. Is not that sweet. I got used to it. I like it better.
Those sweet cherries the guy talked about are called marries, and the small orange peach thing is an apricot. Apricots are so good for jam.
In Kyiv we have apricots everywhere even in the yards of condominiums, u can just walk your dog and get a lot of apricots while walking. But if u go South the same situation is with cherries and peaches
great prices for those fruits and veggies
Cherrys in a vegetable shop cost 10 euro/kilo in Sweden which I think is grotesque
Thanks for bringing me along. I bought corn and cherries at street markets when I was there.
OMGEEEEESH!! I live in Mississippi , and I just bought some cherries at the grocery store.... they were $5 a lb!!! Wow!!
🤯 I'm in Chicagoland area , so everything is $$$ . Organic cherries 🍒 were 3.99 for 1lb
@johnnyfd you should slowly introduce lord to more and more people, different ages and temperaments, also different situations and animals so he is well adjusted and able to not scare easily - this will help him get a forever home. A little little bit at a time
You've been to every Farmer's Market in the World, have you? That's a lot of fruits and vegetables.
I've been to Farmer's Market in over 40-50 countries for sure. It's something I enjoy seeing whenever I travel, as it shows a lot about the local way of life.

Thanks for being with me for all this time!
That looks like an amazing market. We have one in our town but outrages prices and it's Karenville. Only time I go is when we do fundraising for football. I'm jealous sometimes of your simple but yet so interesting life!!!
I agree, life here is so much more simple, yet I love it.
in canada, farmers markets are expensive.
they are usually geared towards artisanal, small batch, organic shoppers - a.k.a. rich people. occasionally, one may find deals but it is rare.
one of the main reasons this is the case is because the cost to rent a booth at these farmer's markets in canada are high in itself and so the cost is passed on to the consumer.
They should just allow farmers to use a parking lot or street to sell it for free.
@@JohnnyFD unfortunately, canada has tons of red tape - per capita probably one of the highest in the world.
i do agree there needs to be much more lax regulations for these kinds of grassroot stuff in canada but as always, the government here - like most places - are run by the rich and with that, comes incredible downward pressure onto those everyday joes and janes simply just trying to make a buck. the disconnect is real.
I think it's a more cultural thing. In the West poorer people eat the most processed food and wealthier people eat the most fresh food.
In less developed countries it's actually the opposite. They still have the traditional culture of cooking fresh food.
A farmers market aimed at poorer people in the West probably wouldn't sell much because poorer people here want processed food and can't or won't cook.
Turns out Dogs actually like companionship.
That's idiotic that the farmer's markets have gotten more expensive than stores in California. At least where I am it is still cheaper and a cheap place to get organic food.
Them hats are looking fresh big dawg Johnny Fd 🇺🇦👍
Thanks! I'm glad Mercado got me a set for my birthday, I love these things!
love seeing the markets, thank you
You gotta bring him inside when it's hot out like that 😢 Think of him like a toddler as far as leaving in cars or outside temp wise
The balcony is the coolest part of the house, it's shaded, and has big open windows.
Then you sure can't leave him out there in winter. When you asked if anyone had heard of crate training , yes. It's for puppies not grown adult dogs who have spent far too long in a crate and need love and companionship. I rescue dogs , have a farm and I am saddened by this.
Looks like a good day at the farmers’ market.
Wanted to get a canary melon but it was over $5.00. Blueberries about $3.99 a pound. Getting raked over the coals in the US.
I love that you shop at such markets, and then was it a PlayStation on at home? If so, this is awesome! As a fellow gamer (PC), love to see it!
Thanks! And yes, I just bought a PS5 recently!
@@JohnnyFD You are awesome ;)
In Riga we have the biggest market in Europe, and its open every day, sometimes with more venders sometimes less. And prices could be somewhere the same im not sure, maybe a little higher.
So yeah i claim that we have the best farmers markets. Ukraine has the best antique and other scrap markets. That is my favorite travel content.
And our blueberries come from forrests not farms
Yep, you're right. There are antique markets on Pochayna metro station, Kurenivka and Darnytsia. Look up channels Antikvar TM or Саша Жизнь в Киеве if you're interested in this topic.
Yeah I ve been there to Baltic countries many times, i have relatives there, i m sorry i will say it but EU obligate farmers to so many things , that food becomes more expensive than outside Eu and the taste becomes more and more artificial, sadly. Still total in Ukraine always cheaper than in Latvia or Lithuania. I ve never been to Estonia
Johnny, food is getting crazy expensive here in USA. Restaurants are just about out of reach for many.

somebody there standing with a bbq would do good selling hot dogs and sausage
Question. Is there a local market for these home batteries that can be charged with solar cells? They are getting very affordable now and I would think this could be a solution if you have regular power outages. I see that in Texas also many households try to get less dependent on the grid for similar reasons. Thanks.
Yes, they have Ecoflows and solar panels for it. 400W panel in the bedroom window would charge 1600W powerbank during the morning sun. However 2k is not something he doesn't like to pay for conveniences.
Ukraine Worlds Best Farmers Market?
In order seasonal fruits and vegetables it take several requirments, it all vegetation will require 8-10hours of direct Sunlight, temeratures must not go lower the 70 Fahrenheit (21.1 Celcius) and abundance of fresh water, at times contant slow watering 24/7, irrigation system. Fertilizers and good soil that pest-free, contimination-free, this requires a massive labor force. I'm base my points off El Centro California
Dude, Ukraine has the most fertile soil on this planet, a fertile black soil what fertilizers you need when you have that kind of soil?
@@BurninVinyl Did you even read my comment? Any type of Vegetation & Fruit requires vast amounts of direct sunlight, requires water irrigation systems. Fertilizer is one thing but over all it takes a number of things to get it right. El Centro California over Ukraine any day bud
@@SoCal74 They have plenty of water, just like they have plenty of good looking women. There is no problem with water in Eastern Europe on the contrary of what I heard in USA (I don't know California). Also the temperature due to climate change is getting warmer, winters are not so harsh like it was decades ago. It means that you can grow other type of vegetables who you couldn't do before. The Ukraine black soil is unique in world.
California is in a drought, they can't keep producing in the same way.
@@SoCal74i ve been to different parts of Cali many times, you guys have a lot of sun and Northern part has colder nights, but during the summer its not enough of rain. Here we have rain at least once a week specially when its so hot outside, once a week is a thunderstorm, so it s solving irrigation trouble. Yes farmers work a lot but they have benefits being here thats why we have soooo many of them
This is called ярмарка from German *Jahrmarkt* , a kind of market where people sell their homegrown veggies and fruits, also honey, salo and other products. There are lots of them in Kyiv. Their only difference from regular markets is that every weekend people come from remote villages to sell their goods which they can't sell at home, because everyone in the village has the same stuff grown. Regular markets or resellers buy veggies in bulk at a lower price (say $2-$2.5 for 1kg of blueberries) right from the villages and set their value as high as they want (like the one you saw there with a price tag saying 200 UAH which is $5 for 1 kg). Thus, people who don't have a possibility to get to Kyiv carrying all that stuff have nothing to do, but accept an offer. Markets have their employees who sell these products every day, not only on weekends. There also might be some resellers (100 gr for 20 UAH? It was a ripoff in broad daylight😅), but most of them bring everything from their own veg patches so that the prices are affordable. The very first guy sells blueberries for $3.2 which is a good deal. In my hood they're $4 for 1kg. The prices vary a lot sometimes and it's better to stroll back and forth few more times to find the best deal.
Good info! I just need to bring a bottle of water with me next time, I was dying!

Alot of the dogs, both pets and feral, seem to me that they have German Shepherd (Alsation) somewhere in their DNA. Even if they are large or small.
Nice farmer market! I remember the last time my parents bought maple syrup at our local farmer market: it was corn syrup. For real... And I'm in Canada, it's not as if maple syrup was a hard-to-find product!
So in northern Colorado, during the busy season, if you check in at "help desk" or w whoever is "in charge", you get double bucks for that shopping trip ie. $100 you have to spend now gives you $200 to spend at market. The prices vary, you get your hoighty toighty stands and regular fair stands, maybe a few things are cheaper or higher priced but mostly about the same. That double bucks deal makes it worthwhile
Wow, double bucks is crazy good, is that just a promo?

no, in these markets the meat is sold fresh, it was prepared at night and already delivered to the market in the morning. And it will be sold out before lunch. And by evening it will be cooked for everyone at home for dinner. Fresh meat does not need refrigeration.
