Czech is HARD. We have so many ways to say one word, different rules for if i/y is written, cause it’s read the same and the word order in sentence is a mess. You did surprisingly well on the pronunciation side tho.

I am fully aware that I am commenting under a two year video and that others have most likely said the same things I have, however watching this as a czech person was very funny. And yes, trust me, the language is _very, very_ hard. Obviously a speedrun to the first checkpoint on duolingo isn't going to teach you the intricacies of the tongue, but it goes way deeper than you'd think. There's the 7 grammatical cases the declension for which is different depending on which gender and "type" it is, the verb conjugation, ř, whatever in the name of all that is holy, unholy and somewhere in between is going on with i/y, the confusing rules for using uppercase letters, the sheer amount of different dialects that have somehow manifested in such a small area, the fact that syllabic consonants are a thing in this language which allows words like scvrnkls to exist, and so much more. I have wondered to myself many times how someone can be insane enough to sit down and actually learn it beyond level A1 at which point I assume most people would realize how bad of an idea this is and quit. If I were not gifted the ability to natively speak it from birth I do not think I'd ever be able to learn it if I wanted to

As a Czech I would say our language is very hard. You however learned only the easiest part. There are things like double letters, the rules of writing vě or vje( both soud completely same) or the rules of i/y( a slight mistake can change the whole meaning of the word like mýt-wash and mít- have). Otherwise you did a really good job learning the language.

    I think that’s right idk

    • @sprochhonza4819
      @sprochhonza4819 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

the word proc is wrong there must be this letter ---> č [ch] so kotchky is wrong too, correct is kočky [kochky] and psy there has to be i at the end but its pronounce [psy] (so the same) ant there is i bc ti psi (the dogs) every word is written by one of genus, we havs genus musculine, neuter and femimine each genus have 4 or 6 pattern word
      for example (neuter genus)
      The pattern words are
      Město (City)
Moře (Sea, do not try pronounce ř, its impossible if you arent native)
      Kuře ( Chicken)
      Stavení (Building)
how to know what pattern is a word?
First you need to know declension of nouns.
      In a nutshell
      declension have 7 form
The basic form of nouns is the 1.
      1. (kdo, co)Město / Okno (city/window)
      2. (Bez koho, čeho) Měst(a)/ Okn(a)
      3.( ke komu, k čemu) (k) Měst(u)/ Okn(u)
      4.(Pro koho, co) (pro) Město / Okn(o)
      5. this is really weird one, usually its not used as much as the other ones, so its callsd - Oslovujem, voláme which litterally means -We address, we call , Example Matěji! Pane Policisto (in these case its 5. form both of these words and it means - Mr. Policeman! But that is really oversimplified
      6. (O kom, o čem) (O) Měst(U) / Okn(u)
      7.(S kým, s čím) (S) Měst(em) / Okn(em)
/note/ : the words in() are questions how do you ask on the form( in czech we call that "pád" which also can mean fall)
/note2/: some of these forms ends on the same letter that means it depends on sentence, and you must ask with part of the sentence to know which of these form is it, but to find out what kind of pattern it is, all you need is a second form. But these others are important too!
And this just one pattern. I think there are 14 of them together. And you have to learn them ALL
And I didn't mention the plural and its declension. This means that each noun has 14 different forms and that is nothing against the timing of the verb, where one verb has about 34-36 different forms and also, you have to learn them all!
      And there a much more!
      *sad depressed face*
      :)

As a Czech person. Wow, great job! Seriously. You also did quite well with the pronunciation.
Ik this video is like 2 years old, but i think you should definitely learn Ř. Just for fun 😇 But other than that...
I think its best for anyone who wasnt born in czechia to just.. leave czech alone. For the sake of their mental health. Theres like a billion rules, and exceptions, and exceptions to exceptions. WAAYYY too many verb and noun forms. Basicaly, only to use nouns correctly you need to learn: sing. + pl., 7 cases, 3 genders, and for each gender there are 4 vzory (patterns? examples? sorry idk how to call these in english) = 168 forms? Basically? Well the do kinda repeat sometimes. But then there are of course exceptions.
Then, tenses. God, the verbs make literally no sense. I could ramble for hours about how it doesnt make sense.
And then. Spelling and pronunciation 😁
Ahhhh. I and Y *gets flashbacks * they are pronounced the same, so you gotta memorize ✨vyjmenovaná slova✨, those are words in which there's a Y after a certain letter. Oh yea, soft hard and both(?) consontants. Also, Ě makes zero sense. Then you have mě/mně. Pronounced the same. And then shit like ✨ neutralizace znělosti✨ where if theres eg B at the end of a word, you pronounce it P.
Aaaand then theres informal czech. Another gazillion different endings for adjectives, different verb forms....
Yeah, czech is really hard even for native speakers. So if youre not one, and you want to learn it... Good luck i guess. But please, just dont use duolingo 😅
(Oh god how long is this comment. I should go to sleep now lmao bye)
Yeah and i forgot to mention, theres no fixed word order in a sentence..

It's pure evil

Bro we got a difficult language for sure, but I'm glad you gave it a shot, I think once you learn it, the language can be very beautiful and verbose. There are ways to say things that you can't say in english, for example "Svůj" which is a determiner of ownership, but it always refers to the subject of the sentence, no matter where you use it.
So, for example, if you were to say "Když Jiří uviděl Honzu, vzal svůj batoh a dal mu ho." which to english would translate as "When Jiří saw Honza, he took his backpack and gave it to him" except by the use of "svůj" i can determine that it was Jiří who gave the backpack to Honza and not the other way around. In english this meaning would be only implied.
For the case of this sentence it's pretty simple but in some other ones with multiple objects it can be a great way to differentiate whether you're talking about the subject or not.
