A couple times a summer there will be brutal hailstorms that destroy your garden, vehicles, outbuildings and home. Yes it is sunny in winter for the most part but again the weather incidents are extreme. If you are an indoor person and understand extreme weather Calgary is pretty good but don’t underestimate the extreme weather it impacts every aspect of your life.
I have a small hobby farm 1-1/2 hours east of Vancouver. My taxes are stupid high, my place has gone from being worth $825,000 in 2018 up to $2,300,000 today. And the taxes have increased likewise. I'd love to move to more acreage between Calgary and North, East, or West of Edmonton. Yes, the winters are brutal in Alberta, but where I am it gets 5 to 10 degrees colder than in the Fraser Valley and the same higher in the summer. On a South hill, in the winter wind and summer blasting sun. I've seen some places online, 25 to 40 acres less than a quarter of the price my place could sell for and with a larger house, shop, barn, garden, a dream. Of course they are not close to a large city, Edmonton or Calgary, but I wouldn't care. I have relatives in Calgary and they have endured the winters all their lives.
It's crazy how much prices have risen in and around Vancouver. If you sold there and bought between Calgary and Edmonton, you would be set. Let me know if you would like some assistance in finding a good property. I have great connections for this.
Well…I am a Calgarian who has recently left. Born there and lived there for 50 years too. My career has taken me across Canada, so I know the country well. What I like: 1. Broadly speaking, or overall, it is as good as it gets for city living in Canada. But I’m not so sure that’s saying much. the city wins Whalen compared to other Canadian cities. 2. Sunny 3. Recreation activities like skiing, biking, and walking are worthwhile. What Concerns me: 1. The city is in decline, as is urban Canada. 2. The economy and job situation. It’s a hire fire culture, consequently jobs are unstable. The lack of open conversation about this is frankly weird. 3. Lack of community and high levels of apathy. As a consequence, the city has bad government And the associated problems are emerging quite rapidly. 4. It’s too expensive. Calgary is not cheap. 5. Too much driving and lousy and dangerous transit.
I appreciate you taking the time to share your opinion and experience. I agree with some of your points but feel some are more of a personal expectation.
Thank you for that great video. I’m a British person moving to Calgary start of next year due to Calgary being so big and being a construction worker, working different locations I want to drive. I only have a learners license in UK, any knowledge on how I could obtain a license to drive?
Glad to hear you are a construction worker! Calgary needs you 😊 Here is a link to how you get your driver's licence in Calgary Alberta www.alberta.ca/get-drivers-licence-steps I hope this helps.
I’m tired of the heavy fast-paced type of attitude amongst professionals in Toronto . Regardless of our talk about mental health and work-life balance, I find it very difficult here. How is the overall pace in Calgary?
Calgary tends to be fast-paced as well, though I have never lived in Toronto, so I can’t compare directly. It’s got a decent corporate vibe in the city due to it being an oil and gas town. People tend to be friendly, though you sometimes have to be the one to initiate the conversation. I’ve lived here since ‘95 and all in all, while it’s not perfect (no place is), it’s definitely a pretty decent place considering it being a big city.
Calgary is a great place if you wish to attend overcrowded events and facilities overrun with stupid people, be overworked, waste a lot of time in slow moving traffic, and have little to no leisure time. 😂
@@kingdeedee my complaint is about Calgary not other cities. Comparing the way you did is the same way an abused person justifies being abused. It's like saying it's okay because you only get slapped around twice a week because your friends down the street get beat up 4 times a week. I don't care about how it is compared to other cities that are 10 fold worse. Calgary being one fold worse is too fuckin' much to begin with.
@@studlyhungwell except comparing urban city congestion to abuse is flat out crazy lmao like cmon man… Calgary has its issues for sure, but majority of people coming to Calgary are coming from bigger crazier cities. Nobody from Toronto is going to complain about traffic in a city where you can still get just about anywhere you need to go in 30-45 mins tops during even the worst traffic + weather. It’s probably more worthwhile complaining about our super disjointed transit network for anyone not in the central regions of the city
@@kingdeedee it's clear you're not a real Calgarian. People who make excuses for the way things have become are the exact problem causing the devolution of the city. You probably think mayor gonad and the hateful 8 are doing a great job and miss nenshithead too.
Sounds like you should find a small town to live in where there’s no traffic and few people so there no crowds. City living isn’t for everyone and the good news is, no one is forcing you to live in Calgary!
Any Calgarians watching this video? What do you 🥰 LOVE or 😡HATE about living in Calgary? Please share😊

Yes, Calgary gets extreme weather and even outdoor people love living here. There is so much much this city has to offer for outdoor enthusiasts 😉
Highly recommend Dean as a very organized and caring professional.
Thank you for your kind comment. It was a pleasure helping you and Masha buy wonderful home in Calgary 🏡😊

@@GB-jarvy-z I agree with you completely on every point. There has been way too much attention on Calgary and it started with the olympics.
Well i couldnt tell you even 1 singular good thing about toronto so this is great!
I'm sure Toronto has plenty of good things, but it certainly is much more expensive to live there compared to Calgary Alberta.
Very very informative and helpful information!
Thanks Cam!
