  • Hello, dear audiophile DIY-enthusiasts. Today we are going to prepare another curious project - a phase-linear speaker system based on the new broadband speakers from Fostex in wooden spheroidal enclosures! Please write down the ingredients: two IKEA BLAND MATT bamboo salad bowls for each speaker, diameter - to taste: 20 or 28 cm =)))
    No, seriously! I promised myself I wouldn't do it anymore... But, I did it again! I couldn't pass by! =) This salad bowls, having a very decent bamboo wall thickness, combine into a nearly perfect ball, which to me - looks just gorgeous! And when I have found (I have never experimented with them before, but I really wanted to - and dreams do come true) new Fostexes drivers with paper-banana "star"-diffusers (also known as Hyperbolic Paraboloidal Rotation) on patented from top to bottom cunning profile suspensions (not kidding and I really respect such work - fanatical search for perfection in small things... description/graphs/formulas, if you're interested - met, for example, in 85 page manual on Fostex NF-1 monitors)...
    Halves - glued from inside with epoxy by rotary method (on MVP-machine =)). Joints were additionally glued by fiberglass mesh (space technology, dammit! =) - construction fiberglass self-adhesive construction tape from the nearest supermarket). Inside the spheres are completely covered with bitumen-mastic vibration absorber STP (auto-audiophiles know it ;-)).
    00:32 Scalping salad bowls: multi-tool and hacksaw.
    00:36 Sanding the saw cutting.
    00:40 Installation of acoustic terminals.
    00:45 Gluing of phasoinverters (from steel radius bends).
    00:51 All-over self-adgesive vibration damper - STP.
    00:56 Spacer rings (only on small spheres).
    01:00 Soldering the audio-wires.
    01:05 My MVP-machine for rotary epoxy-gluing

    These are brilliant !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and they are actually the perfect shape for a speaker simply because there is very little edge difraction.

    A pair of medium and small bowls would be great to make 2 way speakers with the small ones bolted on the mediums they could be placed vertically and horizontally. The big one could be used for a small woofer.

      Perhabs, but this project - about full-range speakers ;-) and, trust me - its worthy of Interest.

    Hey, i actually did just the same a couple years ago. I used some automotive jbl 2-way speakers and a pvc pipe for the bass port. To my surprise they turned very good 👍

      Cool ideas often come to peoples independently ;-) I came to youtube so that more of them would become known to even more interested people! I agree with you: coaxial speakers themselves ask for spherical boxes =) I will say more: my new project on coaxial speakers from Totem Acoustic Avispero (wall-ceiling mounting, finished of jute rope) is ready! The spheres of ... Coming soon =)))

    I would love to test a large bowl WITHOUT the back, in an Open Baffle configuration. Would be interesting I think.

    • @Bu2rinE
      @Bu2rinE  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It doesn't seem like a good idea: this bowl is too small for an open baffle. I suppose an acoustic short circuit will absorb the rest of the bass.

      Благодарю. Конечно, Иван. За неимением возможности услышать вживую, но располагая сносной системой и большой наслушанностью материала вживую и на ней - оценить характер звучания, пусть и весьма приблизительно - можно... Видео доступны на канале: th-cam.com/video/BKs9wgrvIfY/w-d-xo.html - большие (28 см) в закрытых 9-литровых корпусах
      th-cam.com/video/lMKqi4B9mJA/w-d-xo.html - малые (20 см) в корпусах с фазоинвертором (около 3 литров).

    Very "out of the box". I wonder how to similarly add a long "tail" like B&W Nautilus to enable full (or close to full) dissipation of the back wave of the drivers?

    • @Bu2rinE
      @Bu2rinE  ปีที่แล้ว

      Why complicate? There is also a simpler "tailless solution": you just need to use a cabinets of infinite volume ;-) Joke =)) In fact, Nautilus are not "tailed spheres", they are long tapering damping tubes + unique, maximally back-open (magnetic system) speaker drivers. Spheres are a different approach to damping, minimization standing waves and resonances. Also very effective... and compact ;-)

      By the way... about the joke =). What do you say about this extraordinary project from real enthusiast ;-) th-cam.com/video/GNMHVuTD8ig/w-d-xo.html

      Hello. You can see it in the second half of the video (after the 30th second): using a conventional hacksaw on wood or a multitool, then - finishing on sandpaper.

Besoin de trouver le temps et monter une nouvelle vidéo: plafond acoustique sphérique avec un amplificateur britannique légendaire et de grandes flèches analogiques =)))
