    Great demonstration and advice, Chase. I like the MiniMo for car camping to supplement a single burner Coleman camp stove I use for cooking meals. To protect my canister I enclose it in a hunter's thick wool sock and have not experienced any issues. A backpacking stove that has impressed me was my first Coleman Peak 1 which lasted 37 years. In January it gave up and quit on me and I had to use a BRS for backup. I bought a new Peak 1 and I love that it has a flame regulator for boiling to simmering. However, for high efficiency JetBoil is it.

    Excellent video. I work at REI and could not have explained it better!
    You didn’t mention the Mighty Mo, not that it really matters. It’s basically a Mini, with more power for faster boiling. And just the stove, no pan, no frills.
    The Micro Mo is newer, and something between the Mini and Stash. Less power, no/poor simmer control. It does have an igniter. Great little stove, but expensive.

    I 've had a Flash for a year now, I use it several times a week with zero issues in any way.
    I highly recommend it. I bought the Pot Support accessory, as well as the Summit Skillet, both I also green light for the versatile use. As such experiences, I plan on completing the kit with the SUMO and the Genesis system.

    • @eumaeus
      @eumaeus 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, I too find I can regulate the gas. However, it's not by design so with minimal gas output, it is prone to the wind blowing it out.
      I think I'm the only weirdo that carries this, a trangia mini (with fuel) and a wood stove.

    Man, Jetboil is an incredible company who can deliver in some situations that the vast majority of other offerings can't even hope to compete, that said, 99% of people would be better served by a simple MSR pocket rocket and a bottle of fuel. If your an ultralight guy/gal (whatever else you wanna be to be PC) this company should be near/at the top of your list, PCT, and a bunch of other 20+ mile a day type trails it's a great fit, but if your humping a few miles in, staying a couple days to a week, look elsewhere, you can save a ton of money for a few oz/couple lb depending on how you go

    I have two vehicle emergency kits, and each one has a JetBoil Classic plus the JetBoil 1.5 litre Cookpot.
    If out walking and simply wanting some tea, I take my JetBoil Sol-Ti or if accompanied I bring my JetBoil Sol-Ti Sumo stove (I may also bring the Sol-Ti if there's a group).
    For trips, my JetBoil Minimo and JetBoil FryPan are my preferred choice, something that I can properly cook on, and actually simmer!
    My trips involve a folding bicycle and a Packraft, so I'm not carrying stuff on my back so the heavy JetBoil Fry Pan isn't a problem.

    @FlowJunkie65 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Hey, Chase. Cool Jetboil vid, thanks. The one question I have is about regulators. You can control the intensity of the flame on the Flash, so why does everybody say that it's only for boiling water when you CAN back down the flame's intensity to cook food at a less intense temp?

    • @ChaseChristopher1
      @ChaseChristopher1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Sean! Good question. You’re right, there is a valve to control the flame and it does work for cooking. The difference is that the minimo has a true regulator that is much easier to adjust and has a more consistent flame, especially when it’s lower output. The flashes tend to fluctuate a lot at those lower ranges. So yes, you’re completely right but if you plan to do a lot of cooking it’s a bit more enjoyable to use one with a regulator.
      Take care!

    The only real drawback of the MiniMo is the price. Then you add the tax and it's a $$ purchase. Yes, it's pricey but a long term investment. I have the Flash and the solitary JB stove that comes in the orange pouch. My best stove for day hikes is the SOTO Amicus system that is very light.

      Flash for water, minimo for water or cooking. The smaller ones would be fine too, doing multiple pots of water doesn’t take long and having a compact size can be really nice!

    do you have a link for the canister to canister transfer valve?

    Thanks for the video. Does it also fits other gas canister brands. Because it is not possible to take it with me on a flight?
    If so, is the type rare or common to find at a gas station?

    • @eumaeus
      @eumaeus 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you need to ensure it has a 'EN417' connector (this might be a European code, so do Google it). Jetboil use a gas mixture of propane and isobutane, which adds to their efficiency.
      If travelling abroad, consider tablets or liquid fuel instead.

    Do the canisters loose their pressure (like many pressurized canisters)..?
    Is it better to carry 3 @ small canisters, or 1 large canister..?

    Cool! Hey question for you: I just got back from a trip. My BRS / Toaks 650 failed. The stove failed to seal on the canister, blew gas onto my hands, and nearly froze my fingers. I was able to re-attach, kept it attached, and finished my little trip. Gear that fails I chuck, so no more BRS. I also have a JetBoil Zip but didn't bring it. Never has failed. Didn't like the weight. So.. now am seriously considering a Stash. I live near and REI so will chat with the dudes in there about it. Question is on *guess what* cooking / simmering. Not that I'd do a lot, but might want to scramble some eggs, cook some rice.. My Zip is fussy but I can dial in a a low flame. Do you think the Stash is similar, better, worse? I'm after the low weight. Don't need an ignitor.
    Also, the BRS was horrible in about 2 mph wind. Not enough wind to move tree leaves but, enough to shift the flame and kill boil time thus using more fuel. The JetBoil would never have been so affected. I've used it on the beach, on summits, etc.
    Again, thanks for your review!

      Hey John,
      That’s a bummer, I have a brs as well and fortunately it hasn’t died yet but I have noticed it to be very affected by weather.
      I have used the stash a bit and I like it, but as you mentioned it is somewhat similar to the brs with the stove/stand not quite sheltering it from the wind as well. I’ve come to realize that is nearly inevitable with that style of stove and creating a wind barrier is key. Cooking with the stash is like the zip, not super easy to control but still doable with some finesse.
      Hope that helps!
      Take care,
      -Chase

      @@ChaseChristopher1 Just ordered a Stash from REI. Can't deal with super finicky gear. I had a potentially dangerous experience with the BRS. We've gone from heavy Army surplus in the '90s to all this feather weight stuff!
