Finally got around to installing an aftermarket radio due to broken factory. I kept it unplugged from the radio due to previous problems with battery drainage. This video helped me do everything.
I really appreciate the vid. Im going to install mine tomorrow and thought I'd see if anyone had an exact walk through. Your efforts is benefitting a lot of people.
I was trying to send a picture of the install but i couldnt figure it out. Stereo is working great and looks great. Thanks again and Happy New Years. Cheers from KY!
THANKS. I used your video to install my 2005 accord aftermarket radio. I could not pull the power plug out of the oem radio so I ended up following the entire video and pulled the oem radio then installed my JVC with the Metra kit. Very good instructions.
I plan on taking on this install in the next week or so. This made it look much easier. The majority of the posts I've read, people have taken off vent covers, etc. This makes it much easier. Thanks bro.
just wanted to thank you for posting this. I'm doing my wife's 2006 accord right now and watched this video prior to starting and got through it in about 15 minutes. I credit that to what I learned from this
Follow up: Partially thanks to this video, I was able to successfully install a deck in the lower compartment, without removing the original head unit. The hardest part was removing the antenna from the back of the head unit... I ended up using a 90 degree pick tool, to pry it out. Although, I think I found an antenna adapter plug that was right in the compartment area, where the new deck was going, which only would need a small extension for it to work with the new deck.
Thanks to this video, I was able to install a double din on a 2007 Honda Accord in ONE go. You DO NOT need to remove the old radio nor the top part if you have SMALL HANDS - like mine☺. You can reach underneath the radio to remove the connector and the antenna. You will need an ANTENNA ADAPTER though to have a slack on the antenna wire - installation of the new radio CAN NOT be done without it (or maybe it can be done if you remove the antenna clip - I did not try this. Too much hassle for $1.98 antenna adapter).
Thanks man! My mom just got this car and was asking about a new radio, went ahead and ordered a Pioneer off Crutchfield for $70 and they included the Metra 99-7862 kit for free. Install should be pretty easy, thanks for the video!
The specific model that I bought doesn't have bluetooth, but I don't remember the specific model. If you are ordering from Crutchfield.com, you select your car (year/make/model), you select which headunit you like, and it will add the Metra kit for your car for free to the order. Here's a bunch of Pioneer models, some with bluetooth, some without: www.crutchfield.com/shopsearch/pioneer_headunit.html?&pg=2
Thanks for the video! Helped us get going! Didnt have to go through the dash as I was replacing a different aftermarket stereo beneath, but your video covered that part as well, so thank you!
Nice job on the video. My daughters car has the factory radio and the display won't illuminate. I'm thinking seriously about going the route you demonstrated. Thanks!
Thank you for the well-made video! Has anyone successfully completed the job without taking out the main head unit, and unplugging the wire harnesses and attenna without removing the original head unit?
Llenar Hahaha not at all. Its the first youtube video I had ever done and definitely the most popular. Glad it was helpful and that you enjoyed the pjs! Thanks for the comment!

I noticed you pigtailed the illumination/dash light (solid orange) wire on the metra kit. Did you tap the dimming wire from the pioneer harness into the dimmer wire (orange/white) on the metra or is it useless on the accord? Just want to make sure it dims with the rest of the car. Thanks
Thank you! The dealer installed a single din aftermarket for free using the same dash kit, but the stereo brand was a piece of crap. I have to buy a better one, so I wanted to know how to take the current one out and put a different one in.
Hello, Thanks for the great video! What kind of problems were you having with your stereo? My stock stereo keeps turning on and draining the battery, I just installed an aftermarket stereo but the battery drained again. I am unplugging the blue harness that connects back to the old stereo to see if that stops the battery from draining, aside from the lights not working did you lose any other functionality associated with the AC controls? Thanks in advance!
***** It would give out intermittently, turning on and off randomly, cd ejector spinning endlessly, clock turning off, and probably more. Still does all those things, but now it doesn't affect what I can listen to. Mine doesn't turn on when the car is off though so I haven't had an issue with it draining the battery. To answer your other question, I don't remember losing any functionality with AC controls except for the lights. Unfortunate to have to live with that, but better than draining the battery all the time...
The video is incorrect. You do need to remove the AC vents and factory stereo. It is necessary to have enough room to disconnect the cables. Otherwise, the video is very helpful.
Tapani and Ragelt, regarding removing the stock radio: maybe, maybe not. I just did this in my 2007 Accord LX and did NOT need to remove the vents or factory stereo. Once the lower dash unit is removed where the new radio will go, it is possible (on the 2007 LX, at least) to reach up and unclip the blue wiring harness fairly easily from the stock radio. Yes, it's a bit tight, but you can do it. Reach up, use one finger to hold down the clip on top of the plug, then use a long flathead screwdriver in your free hand to push the edges of the stock wiring harness plug free from the stock radio. It took two seconds once I realized I could push with a screwdriver instead of trying to jam both hands and pull the plug out toward the front of the vehicle. Three more suggestions: 1) Lay out a plastic bag underneath the workspace to catch screws for when (not if) you drop them. Don't forget to remove it before you button up the final plastics. 2) There are lots of sharp edges inside the console, and some of the wiring will be routed differently with the new radio. Reroute the wires as securely as possible, then protect any potential edge contact areas with lots and lots of electrical tape. 3) Maybe this should come first. Before disconnecting the stock radio, make sure to eject all CDs. I'm pretty sure I left one in there but I'm not sure which one and can't build up the motivation to tear it all apart just to fire up the stock radio again! Thanks for the great tutorial.
Thanks for the confirmation! Does your stock stereo not turn on anymore? Mine still has power, just no longer connects to the speakers, so I can turn it on and off, insert and eject CDs, scan through stations, etc, but without actually playing anything.
Correct, my stock radio no longer turns on. The adapter that came with my radio kit had only one plug, connecting to the vehicle harness on one end and being soldered/heat shrinked into the new radio's harness on the other. There was no third end to re-connect to the stock radio to provide power. Looks like there are other harness options out there that would maintain power to the stock radio... I didn't realize this would be the case with this kit, but I'm OK with it for now.
This is probably the most helpful DIY video I've seen, just one question, did you retain your steering wheel controls? If not could you tell me how if possible. Thanks for the vid
Fernando Leon Thanks for the feedback! I have an LX model so it doesn't have steering wheel controls. Unfortunately, I think you have to get some sort of adapter kit like this one www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B4PJC9K/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00B4PJC9K&linkCode=as2&tag=alexlaug-20&linkId=QYTHJXPONWGDDLMK (affiliate)
First of all, Crutchfield is awesome! They pulled together ‘most’ of the parts for me and offered help when we encountered some of the problems below. We have a few suggestions for those installing the Metra 99-7862 kit, i.e. install the new radio in the pocket location under the radio of my 2003 Honda Accord EX. First, I would definitely NOT remove the old radio and AC vent. You can remove the radio/AC main plug (blue on my 2003) and wiggle it out for access to the plug. Note, the same is true for the radio antenna. You must be patient since you cannot see the plug, nor antenna wire, while you are removing them. See the video th-cam.com/video/IdnmF2g7Nw0/w-d-xo.html (skip to 4.16) where clintathusaz (awesome dude) shows you how above. And you must install the metra wiring harness in the tight quarters between the old radio and the car body, but it can be done. One tip, on installing the Metra harness plug into the old radio. Be sure to push the plug and wires behind the metal flange then you can pull the plug into place. Note, the Metra harness does NOT include the wires (e.g.: Metra harness pin 3 and pin 11 are blank and yet are required for a PAC SWI-RC steering wheel kit) for your Honda steering wheel radio control buttons. So be ready to splice into the old Honda radio harness. Again, this will be tight, but doable. Note I used a pair of locking forceps to hold and isolate pin 3 and pin 11 wires. Also, note the Honda radio antenna wire will be too short to reach your new radio. And yes, you can try and remove the wire harness clip on the antenna wire but you risk damaging other components and a huge amount of frustration. So just buy a Metra 44-EC12 12-inch car radio antenna extension cable and you are good. Note, also be sure to connect the Metra Blue wire to the radio ‘power antenna’ wire since your Honda has a 12v powered antenna amp to boost reception. For the microphone installation, we installed the mic just behind the steering wheel. Yes, you have to snip off the clip, but then I used Velcro to mount the mic. Note, I used Velcro so I can move the mic to change the view of the dash, e.g. I mounted the mic so it is located just to the right of the odometer and does cover up any of the gauges on the dash. And finally, the ‘piece da resistance,’ what to do about the stock clock which is built into the old radio/HVAC system? You can ignore the flashing clock and go insane or just take black electrical tape and cover it up. Note, if you come up with a way to set the old radio/HVAC clock please let us know.
Mike Johnson Hey, thanks for the info. I installed the way you guys did but my old stereo display in not working. The HVAC system works fine but the display is not working. Can you please help me with that?
Actually, you DO need to take off the top panel in order to remove the factory stereo adapter. I tried to get away with just taking off the bottom compartment and pulling out the adapter like you said in your video. Although you can access it, it's impossible to get the adapter off without taking off the top panel and pulling out the factory stereo out an inch or two. My advice would be to anyone looking to do this project don't waste your time trying to get it off from just the bottom and just take off the top panel in addition to the bottom compartment and go from there.
Harris Hamid Thanks for the feedback. Its been awhile since I did this so I don't recall exactly, but I do believe I was able to remove the connector without removing the top section. I will definitely verify this if I get open it up again in the future.
@@clintathusaz I think it depends on the year. I'm working on a 2006 Accord and there's a metal bracket that stops you from being able to access that part properly without taking out the top panel.
@@clintathusaz After install my new radio works great but the factory one isn't lighting up even though I connected it to the splitter. Wondering if I got a faulty harness.
hey! gr8 video! please help me... the warring harness is not available in my country please tell me a way i can make this happen! the front facia is the only part available
Why didn't you solder the blue remote wires from the white connector to the black connecter together? Does it have something to do with leaving the factory radio in there?
I think so... but I don't totally remember whether its the green connector at the top or the blue at the bottom that powers the factory radio display. Do you have the blue connector from the harness plugged back into the factory radio?
No i had the blue harness plugged into the aftermarket radio. Any idea where i could get a harness that could split the blue connection to both the factory and aftermarket radio?
Xilla Did you use the Metra install kit? The harness included with the kit has another blue connector that plugs back into the radio. Blue connector from the car plugs into white harness connector, blue harness connector plugs into stock radio, and then the connector from aftermarket radio (black in my case) plugs into the aftermarket stereo.
Hey! Thanks for the video. I was wondering if the climate control/A/c or any other display on the existing console will be affected if you replace the head unit. Alternatively, if I were to add another one like you have, will the display be affected? Thanks!
+MrPhil2311 If it is hooked up correctly (as described in the video) the climate controls should all be totally functional. The stock stereo will no longer be able to produce sound, but it still can turn on, the clock works, etc.
Erick Steven Maldondado Yeah totally! Sorry if its a bit confusing. So first you unplug the blue connector from the stock stere, then plug that into the white connector of the harness. The blue connector on the harness plugs back into the stock stereo where the other blue connector was plugged in. Then the black connection (could be different color depending on the aftermarket stereo you buy) plugs into the new stereo. That way all AC/heater functions and backlights remain functional. Let me know if you have any issues or more questions. Thanks for the comment and good luck!
i love my 2003 honda accord. but the radio started malfunctioning back in 2007. there was a recall for the radio but i had too much mileage to qualify. i can still listen to the radio but can't see the numbers or time. cd no long works. the dealer wanted to charge 700 for a replacement. I never dreamed that i could replace the radio... duh on my part. Thanks for this video. i'm going to look for a replacement and find someone who can do this for me.
hi i have an accord 2005 with the navigation screen model and a dvd below it. would it be possible to replace the dvd with a single din stereo? and will it still support cruise control on the steering wheel? thanks
So I have a question hoping you can help me with the wiring. Well first I know you have to match up colors but with the harness kit from the kit and the radio connector. But what do I do with the excess wires that don't have a combo?
+Owen Evbagharu If I remember correctly, there were a number of wires from the harness that didn't connect to anything. I think the wiring harness provided with the kit fits multiple vehicles, so there are a few extra as a result.
Thanks for the video! I just ordered this kit and im going to use your video to guide me through installation 👍🏻. I was wondering if you or anyone else reading this have the same issues with the factory radio, i have an 04 accord LX. My factory radio always randomly turns off then back on all the time. So the display on the radio turns off and the music stops but i can still eject or put a CD in as well. Does anyone else experience this issue with their factory radio? If so does putting in an aftermarket deck eliminate this problem as well?
Sounds exactly like mine. it does some weird stuff and I eventually got tired of it and put the aftermarket deck in. The stock stereo still does its weird stuff, but it doesn't affect the sound anymore because audio is only connected to the aftermarket stereo.
just to verify before i order this for my car the harness included is all i would need to do the setup like you did in your car no matter what the brand cd player?
Yeah it should. I'm not an expert, but from what I've seen, the wiring on car cd players is pretty standard. I would be very surprised if it didn't work with what you have.
So I've never installed a car radio before but I'm quite good with computer components. My OEM radio is faulty to the point I had to remove the fuse. When installing a new radio using the Metra, does the original radio need to be on as well? I would rather have it disabled at all times.
+Robert Moreno That is a very good question. My stereo is in the same condition, and while I would much prefer it to be totally disabled, I have not found a way to do it. However, I have not really tried too much. The factory radio has no sound output though, so while it does turn on and off randomly, its only visual. I'm afraid that if you pull the fuse to the stereo it will not power the aftermarket stereo either because I assume they are on the same circuit. Let me know if you figure out a way around it!
The wires leading to the turquoise plug in the back of the Honda radio. I was able to disconnect it witout removing The radio, but the wires were tied so tight behind the radio so I was unable to move it to the side enough to plug in the new one. On the positive side, removing the stock radio was not that hard, although the lower clips were so tight I actually thought it was fastened with screws. When removing the paneling above the radio, be sure to use the widest tool, anything else will dent the seams.
I live in a country where they play really bad music, so I didnt even bother with the antenna (actually forgot it, and then didn't feel it's worth the trouble open at all up again)
+Greg Ramos (ReMiXeDg) Actually you can order a steering wheel control adapter. Got mine from Crutchfield www.crutchfield.com/p_541SWIRC/PAC-SWI-RC-Steering-Wheel-Control-Adapter.html?tp=3405
Hey, how did you get the blue connector back into the stock stereo? I'm having a hell of a time getting that in...I've been trying for a few hours and it just doesn't want to go in...
I bought the Metra 99-7862 kit in the video and also bought a stereo, but I can't tell if the stereo fits? Its a JVC KD-R660. How do you know if it fits?
+maysaudrey0 Your stereo will fit the Metra kit you bought. Stereos come in standard sizes, single DIN or double DIN. This is a single DIN kit and a single DIN stereo, so you're set!
i have same problem with my stereo i was thinking doing same thing by passing stereo myself but im not sure how do it what wire goes where or where buy the cables
i installed it in my honda 2004 odometer reading and temperature and trip kms screen is blank and some lights on dash is playing like it shows handbrakes on even when its off and VSA. also it drains my battery very fast???
Anybody know if there's a video showing how to solder the wiring? Everyone skips over this. I get it's pretty basic info, but I would just like to see someone do it.
+Yoel Rivero Hey sorry for the confusion. The harness comes in the Metra kit 99-7862 which includes the white and blue connectors you see in the video. The black connector is what came with my new stereo, which is what will need to be soldered or crimped into the harness from Metra. Hopefully that answers your questions!
Great video! I installed a new Kenwood deck and shortly after my stock alarm would go off at random times. Horn, lights and all. Anyone have a clue? Thank you, Steve
hey bro. I install a double din kenwood. I did everything like your video. it doesn't turn on. and if I hooked the red and yellow wires it will turn on but it doesn't save the radio station. can you help ?
hi I installed a double Din, worked fine for a bit than my battery light started coming on and off so I got a new battery however no change still doing it. Any ideas why it might be doing that?
+Freddy Nunez My guess is that something was wired incorrectly when you soldered the harness up. I would check to make sure all colors match and that there is no exposed metal from the wires. Are you running a sub or are your speakers amped? That can drain your battery pretty quickly if you run it without the car on, or if it is too high power system for the alternator to keep up. Other than those things, I would not know. Good luck!
Any aftermarket stereo should come with a plug that fits their stereo with colored wires coming off. You have to join that plug to the wiring harness included with the kit.
+Christian Sevilla I have an LX model so it doesn't have the steering wheel controls. From what I understand you need an adapter kit like this one amzn.to/1SRMaML (affiliate). I assume it will work for your vehicle and model of stereo, but you may want to research it to make sure. Hope it all works out!
Elisaul Medina Unfortunately I think you need to buy an adapter. But I can't say for sure because my car is an LX model and doesn't have the steering wheel controls. Good luck!
I would not install a new head unit with the key turned on. You can take your car out of gear without putting it in. Take a small screw driver or pick and lift up that small piece of plastic next to the shifter, insert your key and push down. That will allow you to take it out of park.
+Gabriel Arana It came with the Metra kit. amzn.to/1RU1hmp Its just a matter of plugging it in correctly to get the AC lights to work. I made the mistake the first time, but then realized I needed to plug the third connector back into the stock radio to get the backlights back.
Hello Man I want to do the same thing as you did But I want to make the two Stereo work in same time like the original Radio just for Radio Chanel and the aftermarket radio for Cd player , USB and aux can I do that or it's kind of impossible ?
Well that is an interesting idea. I can't say for sure it will work but I think it can be done. You would have to route all the speaker wires from the white connector to the blue connector in the correct pin-out using the blue connector inside the car for reference. Let me know if you figure it out!
Haris Hussain I think you improve the audio quality when you use an aftermarket stereo over the stock stereo. There are a lot more settings you can mess with to get the sound right. Swapping for new speakers will make a tremendous difference, especially when the stock ones start to get older. You would only need an amp after replacing speakers and stereo and if you didn't get enough volume before it starts to crackle. Or if you installed a sub. The kit itself does absolutely nothing to change the sound quality.
what is the black connector for ? I thought it was the radio antenna but he said 'plugged in the black connector ALONG with the radio antenna .. now I'm confused lol .. which is the radio antenna .. I had mine installed years ago and the radio reception is nonexistent
Hey +d jones, the black connector in the video is the connector specific to that stereo that came with the stereo. It could be any other color for your particular stereo and a different size/shape depending on your stereo. That connector needs to be soldered to the harness provided in the Metra kit. Does that make sense? Hopefully it helps!
+clintathusaz I misunderstood .. I got it after watching it again .. maybe I was getting tired when I watched it the first time .. I miss certain things when that happens lol .. you meant the black connector from the harness along with the black antenna cable .. yeah, I got everything else .. the soldering and everything ... thanks for the reply
Katie Anne Friedman My first thought would be to make sure the harness was soldered up correctly, matching all the wires and colors and that there are no loose connections. Have you checked to see if all the connectors are fully inserted? I guess it'll be hard to do any of this diagnosis work if the stereo won't come out. Sorry! Wish I could be of more help! And let me know if you solve it!
+CSIG1001 I have an LX model so it doesn't have the steering wheel controls. From what I understand you need an adapter kit like this one amzn.to/1SRMaML (affiliate). I assume it will work for your vehicle and model of stereo, but you may want to research it to make sure.
+Autonomous Prime I think so, but I really don't remember. I wish I had had the foresight to document the process of connecting and soldering the harness back when I made the video.

Great how-to video brotha
+SlowHonda Thanks!
Hello,
Thanks for the great video!
Unfortunate to have to live with that, but better than draining the battery all the time...
clintathusaz exactly, I can deal without the illumination, but not with a car that dies all the time. thanks again!
Yup drained my battery
Well that helped big time.Thanks.
Thanks for the video I just finished installing and no lights are working I am plugged into head unit like you said you messed up last time
SO, if i skip to the 4:16 and install without messing with original stereo will it still work?
Thanks for this....very helpful!
You're welcome and glad it was helpful!
Three more suggestions:
1) Lay out a plastic bag underneath the workspace to catch screws for when (not if) you drop them.
They pulled together ‘most’
of the parts for me and offered help when we encountered some of the problems
below.
We have a few suggestions for those installing the Metra
99-7862 kit, i.e. install the new radio in the pocket location under the radio
of my 2003 Honda Accord EX. First, I
would definitely NOT remove the old radio and AC vent. You can remove the radio/AC main plug (blue
on my 2003) and wiggle it out for access to the plug. Note, the same is true for the radio
antenna. You must be patient since you cannot
see the plug, nor antenna wire, while you are removing them. See the video th-cam.com/video/IdnmF2g7Nw0/w-d-xo.html
(skip to 4.16) where clintathusaz
(awesome dude) shows you how above. And you
must install the metra wiring harness in the tight quarters between the old
radio and the car body, but it can be done. One tip, on installing the Metra harness plug
into the old radio. Be sure to push the
plug and wires behind the metal flange then you can pull the plug into
place. Note, the Metra harness does NOT include the
wires (e.g.: Metra harness pin 3 and pin 11 are blank and yet are required for
a PAC SWI-RC steering wheel kit) for your Honda steering wheel radio control
buttons. So be ready to splice into the
old Honda radio harness. Again, this
will be tight, but doable. Note I used a pair of locking forceps to hold and
isolate pin 3 and pin 11 wires. Also,
note the Honda radio antenna wire will be too short to reach your new
radio. And yes, you can try and remove
the wire harness clip on the antenna wire but you risk damaging other
components and a huge amount of frustration.
So just buy a Metra 44-EC12 12-inch car radio antenna extension cable
and you are good. Note, also be sure to
connect the Metra Blue wire to the radio ‘power antenna’ wire since your Honda
has a 12v powered antenna amp to boost reception. For the microphone installation, we installed
the mic just behind the steering wheel.
Yes, you have to snip off the clip, but then I used Velcro to mount the
mic. Note, I used Velcro so I can move
the mic to change the view of the dash, e.g. I mounted the mic so it is located
just to the right of the odometer and does cover up any of the gauges on the
dash. And finally, the ‘piece da
resistance,’ what to do about the stock clock which is built into the old
radio/HVAC system? You can ignore the
flashing clock and go insane or just take black electrical tape and cover it
up. Note, if you come up with a way to
set the old radio/HVAC clock please let us know.
@@theq good to know!
@@clintathusaz After install my new radio works great but the factory one isn't lighting up even though I connected it to the splitter. Wondering if I got a faulty harness.
hey! gr8 video! please help me... the warring harness is not available in my country please tell me a way i can make this happen! the front facia is the only part available
harsh tibrewala any luck yet?
Why didn't you solder the blue remote wires from the white connector to the black connecter together? Does it have something to do with leaving the factory radio in there?
So if i want to reconnect the factory radio so i can see the display i only need to connect the green wire up top? Great video, thanks
Great video. I plugged everything thing in but the factory radio comes on not my aftermarket radio. what am I doing wrong?
I have the same radio is it the single din or double. And what if we don't connect those wires to back of the radio is it just for the lights?
Oh ok. Cool. Thanks!
Nice video thanks for the help
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful!
This is exactly what I want to do on my Honda Accord 2004 but i got lost in the cables part! Can u still use ur ac heater etc?
Erick Steven Maldondado Yeah totally! Sorry if its a bit confusing. So first you unplug the blue connector from the stock stere, then plug that into the white connector of the harness. The blue connector on the harness plugs back into the stock stereo where the other blue connector was plugged in. Then the black connection (could be different color depending on the aftermarket stereo you buy) plugs into the new stereo. That way all AC/heater functions and backlights remain functional. Let me know if you have any issues or more questions. Thanks for the comment and good luck!
Thanks for the vid
You are very welcome! Thanks for the comment
i love my 2003 honda accord. but the radio started malfunctioning back in 2007. there was a recall for the radio but i had too much mileage to qualify. i can still listen to the radio but can't see the numbers or time. cd no long works. the dealer wanted to charge 700 for a replacement. I never dreamed that i could replace the radio... duh on my part. Thanks for this video. i'm going to look for a replacement and find someone who can do this for me.
im a bit confused on how you did that 3way wiring...i understand one of the harnesses is for the lights but that 3rd blue harness where do i get it?
hi i have an accord 2005 with the navigation screen model and a dvd below it. would it be possible to replace the dvd with a single din stereo? and will it still support cruise control on the steering wheel? thanks
Thanks,, very helpful
The stock stereo still does its weird stuff, but it doesn't affect the sound anymore because audio is only connected to the aftermarket stereo.
sounds good. thanks for the reply and info!
just to verify before i order this for my car the harness included is all i would need to do the setup like you did in your car no matter what the brand cd player?
Let me know if you figure out a way around it!
clintathusaz Now I'm kinda worried but I hope I can figure a way around it. Thanks for the response and I'll let you know.
You do need to pull the stock radio out, just because the wires are so tight that you will need to get behind the radio just the cut the thingie.
+Tapani V. Which wires are you referring to? The antenna wire being held in by a push-in zip tie clip?
+Tapani V. You must live in the US because I never listen to the radio either due to all the bad music! :)
Great video. Thanks very much! Once you hook this up, do the stock volume wheel work or it's taken over by the aftermarket one?
the buttons on the steering wheel dont work with aftermartet radios.
Hey, do you have a wiring diagram of this factory stereo? I cannot find correct one anywhere. I need to know speakers + and -
I bought the Metra 99-7862 kit in the video and also bought a stereo, but I can't tell if the stereo fits? Its a JVC KD-R660. How do you know if it fits?
+maysaudrey0 Your stereo will fit the Metra kit you bought. Stereos come in standard sizes, single DIN or double DIN. This is a single DIN kit and a single DIN stereo, so you're set!
+clintathusaz Thanks, I really appreciate it
i have same problem with my stereo i was thinking doing same thing by passing stereo myself but im not sure how do it what wire goes where or where buy the cables
You are amazing!! thanks!!!
You are welcome! Glad it was helpful!
i installed it in my honda 2004 odometer reading and temperature and trip kms screen is blank and some lights on dash is playing like it shows handbrakes on even when its off and VSA. also it drains my battery very fast???
Anybody know if there's a video showing how to solder the wiring? Everyone skips over this. I get it's pretty basic info, but I would just like to see someone do it.
hey bro i have a question...so the metra harnes is that something you need to have the ac and air system lights working?
+Yoel Rivero Hey sorry for the confusion. The harness comes in the Metra kit 99-7862 which includes the white and blue connectors you see in the video. The black connector is what came with my new stereo, which is what will need to be soldered or crimped into the harness from Metra. Hopefully that answers your questions!
Great video! I installed a new Kenwood deck and shortly after my stock alarm would go off at random times. Horn, lights and all. Anyone have a clue? Thank you, Steve
Dang! I'm not really sure whats going on! Sorry and good luck!
Hi there i would like to know what i do if the clock on the top stays on . Does that affect my car battery ?
Martin Orefice If its all hooked up right, the clock on the top should stay on. This should not drain your battery. Thanks!
hey bro. I install a double din kenwood. I did everything like your video. it doesn't turn on. and if I hooked the red and yellow wires it will turn on but it doesn't save the radio station. can you help ?
Thanks for the video, do you remember where you grounded your radio?
+Randarius Houston Hey you're welcome! The ground line is part of the connector, so you don't have to do anything special to ground your stereo.
Was looking at an after market Pioneer, but you just leave the old inactive radio in the dash with this harness?
Giuseppe Sciarrino Yep. Not the prettiest option but it's quite a bit cheaper.
hi I installed a double Din, worked fine for a bit than my battery light started coming on and off so I got a new battery however no change still doing it.
Good luck!
Hey man just wondering if this would work for the Honda 2004 euro???
What kind of radio do you need for the wire harness or does it fits any radio?
Any aftermarket stereo should come with a plug that fits their stereo with colored wires coming off. You have to join that plug to the wiring harness included with the kit.
+clintathusaz okay I see thanks you so much for the help!
Can I change my radio in a 2003 Honda Accord coupe with one from a 2005 Honda Accord coupe or 2007 Honda Accord coupe?
hey quick question are we able to still usr our steering wheel controls?
+Christian Sevilla I have an LX model so it doesn't have the steering wheel controls. From what I understand you need an adapter kit like this one amzn.to/1SRMaML (affiliate). I assume it will work for your vehicle and model of stereo, but you may want to research it to make sure. Hope it all works out!
I love this car but the stereo unit is stupidly meshed with the climate controls. I mean what were they thinking???
I know not a good design...
I wasn't able to pull the plug out of the stereo, any tips?
One question, after you install it the steering wheel control works? Or you have to buy an adapter??
Elisaul Medina Unfortunately I think you need to buy an adapter. But I can't say for sure because my car is an LX model and doesn't have the steering wheel controls. Good luck!
Thank you
I would not install a new head unit with the key turned on. You can take your car out of gear without putting it in. Take a small screw driver or pick and lift up that small piece of plastic next to the shifter, insert your key and push down. That will allow you to take it out of park.
were did you get that wireharness? i want my air things to show up too
+Gabriel Arana It came with the Metra kit. amzn.to/1RU1hmp Its just a matter of plugging it in correctly to get the AC lights to work. I made the mistake the first time, but then realized I needed to plug the third connector back into the stock radio to get the backlights back.
I just installed it and the front speakers work but no sound from the rear speakers. Any ideas why?
does the stock radio still display the time and radio station? or is it obsolete. I also have the same car
It still shows the time. Everything still functions, but just isn't connected to the speakers anymore so you can't hear anything.
Hello Man
I want to do the same thing as you did
But I want to make the two Stereo work in same time
like the original Radio just for Radio Chanel and the aftermarket radio for Cd player , USB and aux
can I do that or it's kind of impossible ?
Well that is an interesting idea. I can't say for sure it will work but I think it can be done. You would have to route all the speaker wires from the white connector to the blue connector in the correct pin-out using the blue connector inside the car for reference. Let me know if you figure it out!
whats that white plug under the stock radio?
Steven Martinez you can buy a cable that you connect then it would be an Aux cord for your phone
U think I can pull the antennas plug out from the bottom ?
Yeah I think so. If you cant be sure to let me know.
Does this improve audio quality? Or do I need an AMP for that? I dont know much about cars.
What does the green connector do?
How can I get that same exact radio??
Thank you so much!!
scaleworksgarage you're welcome! glad to help!
what is the black connector for ?
Okay, I did all of this. Popped in my new stereo and din and it won't turn on? Now I can't get the din back out, any advice on why its doing that?
Katie Anne Friedman My first thought would be to make sure the harness was soldered up correctly, matching all the wires and colors and that there are no loose connections. Have you checked to see if all the connectors are fully inserted? I guess it'll be hard to do any of this diagnosis work if the stereo won't come out. Sorry! Wish I could be of more help! And let me know if you solve it!
What do I do with the wires that don’t have matches?
How did you retain steering wheel controls?
+CSIG1001 I have an LX model so it doesn't have the steering wheel controls. From what I understand you need an adapter kit like this one amzn.to/1SRMaML (affiliate). I assume it will work for your vehicle and model of stereo, but you may want to research it to make sure.
just ordered it thanks!
Where does the black wire from new radio harness go?
Nm I found the corresponding black wire but now the only wires left are orange and orange/white. Do they get spliced together?
+Autonomous Prime I think so, but I really don't remember. I wish I had had the foresight to document the process of connecting and soldering the harness back when I made the video.
