- In this video, I install a Pioneer Double-Din headunit/radio in my 2004 Honda Accord. I used the Metra kit for the lower dash location, which fits most double-din radios. Let me know if you have any questions. Buy the Headunit: www.amazon.com...
Buy the Metra Kit: amzn.to/2P3JQo1
Buy the Metra Steering Wheel Controls Adapter: amzn.to/2NTW02u
This video helped me to visualize what a 2 din stereo would look like in my car. I was told that this would be the only way and im starting to realize that it's true. Not that bad looking by the way. Thnx!
Hector Hernandez No problem!
You can replace the main unit with a fascia including all AC buttons, problem is it has no volube know ( just that stupid touch screen volume icons, a recipe for accidents ). However you can also get a separate fascia, but I don´t know if it will fit any double din radio, just trying...

finally found video with radio installed in lower compartment.doesnt look so bad and you just helped me save a good penny. Thanks!
Albert Franco You’re welcome! Yeah, I saw how other people had done it, but wanted something that matched the interior a little better. I’m glad I could help!
I Will be installing this next week. how does the metra steering wheel control adaptor connect to the T harness? if you could make a video for that alot of people would appreciate it 🙏
Great work my boy 💯
AJS Woodworks i have a question i have a 03 honda accord i want to put a aftermarket stereo in once i put it in do i have to unplug the orignal head unit i dont want to have to deal with the radio code
Informative video thanks bro
Edwin Flores No problem!
Where you bought your radio???
The car has two antennas, dont know if both need to be connected?
Jonathan Tenorio Only the one needs to be connected.
Nice job
did u flip the yellow wires with red on the aftermarket radio? i did follow the metra wiring diagram , but my pionner wont save the setting..
Did you watch my metro wiring video? I don’t recall the details but I don’t think I swapped those two. My pioneer has been working perfectly, so however I wired it in my video must be correct.
I did this install a while ago, and the new head unit was working wonderfully for a few months, but it suddenly stopped powering on. The factory radio still powers on and shows the time and stuff, just the new head unit suddenly stopped powering on. The power source for the new head unit is the same as the power source for the stock unit, correct? They share the same power source? Any ideas on what the problem could be?
theparkimlot Correct, the power source is the same. Your wiring may have become corroded or broken. How did you solder the wires?
@@AJSWoodworks I used the heat-shrink, self-solder butt connectors. The connections all appear to be good (I was super meticulous with them), but as with anything electrical, that doesn't mean there isn't a problem there, so I guess that's the first place I should troubleshoot. Just didn't want to go through the hassle :(
theparkimlot Yeah, that’s going to be a pain, but that’s likely place where it went wrong.
AJS woodworks just a question I have a 03 accord will this stereo fit in the cubby hole on the bottom or do I need a 6.2 stereo I'm new at this
patrick lynch Yes, this stereo will fit. The 2004 is basically the same.
I wish you would’ve shown how you drilled the hole into the console for the usb
Sorry! I sometimes forget to record every step. It was pretty simple though, I’m sure there’s more than one way to do it.
@@AJSWoodworks it’s good, I used your vid to install my dual double din but it didn’t come with multiple USB plugs like the Sony AX5000 so I was just looking for a diy video
What’s the part number for this dash kit trying to find one on eBay
Metra Electronics 95-7862 Double DIN Installation Dash Kit for Honda Accord(Black): amzn.to/2OgTzWH
Does the Metra Kit come with the "T" harness?
It only comes with the connector from the new headunit to the old radio, and then to the main harness. If that’s what you mean by T harness. However it doesn’t come with the steering wheel control harness.
Do you retain steering wheel volume buttons?
Emlyn Unfortunatley not, however, you can install an adapter that will allow you to retain those controls. Here’s a link: amzn.to/2HPaVc9
Hello. The control weel works?
André Unfortunately not. All of the radio controls are on the new radio.
Would my ac controls still work
salvador guzman Yes sir. Just the factory radio controls will not work.
Hey where did you buy the hardness adapter
Through amazon. It comes with the metro kit, and I put a link in the description.
What size should the screen of the radio? be for the 03 Accord?
Kakolonni Cox Look for “double din” radios. They’re basically universal. The screen is variable within the double din size. A 7” screen like mine will fit in a 2003. 2003-2007 are basically the same car.
Don’t look at the screen size so much as the fact that it’s double din. I think 7” is about the biggest you can get.
What did you connect the blue cable, named power antenna to? The little blue and white striped one? On the harness
I didn't connect the power antenna wire, because I don't have one. The blue/white wire was connected to the microbypass blue wire.
I install a double din in my car but when I turn the car on the stereo won’t turn on I have to turn it on manually do you know why this might happen?
There is a power wire on the radio, it’s possible that it is not wired up correctly.
Buy the Headunit here: amzn.to/2Ba0UpC
Will this work with a 98 Honda Accord?
The radio likely will, but you will need a different mounting kit.
Good day sir,
Which metra kit comes with the wiring harness?
Chase Austin Good day. The link to purchase the kit (that includes the wiring harness) is in the description of my video.
Does the steering wheel buttons still work?
No, the volume has to be changed on the new unit
I posted a link in the description to the steering wheel adapter
Does your factory radio still work after installing the aftermarket stereo?
The screen turns on, and the heat and air controls all work, but no sound will some from the stock radio, and the volume knob won't do anything.
AJS Woodworks do you know if it’s possible to have both clocks work? The aftermarket stereo and the stock radio clock?
Christopher Horneman Yes sir, both still work.
Nice that’s great. I can’t get my stock clock to work after having installed the aftermarket radio. Do you have any advice that might lead to the clock turning back on? I can’t find any reset switch or anything. I have the 2011 Honda Accord.
@@christopherhorneman1702 Do you have your radio code for the stock radio? sometimes when the battery is unplugged, or the radio is unplugged, it shuts off the screen until you turn the power on and input the code.
Otherwise, I'm not sure what the issue would be since I have a different model year.
Could you get the same kit in Australia?
I’m not sure, I purchased mine on Amazon in the US, but I’m sure they probably have something similar in Australia, possibly even on Amazon.
You can get a stinger BKHONK825H and aerpro harnesses. I'm currently waiting on my fascia kit and head unit from frankies auto electrics in the mail. I've got the amp already and the wiring and half my new speakers. Once I have everything installed I'll probably exchange my focal 6x9 and put focal 6.5" in the rears to match the fronts. The harnesses seem to make everything pretty straightforward but retaining the steering wheel controls will be the interesting part.
I can see my controls for heat and a.c. after I installed my aftermarket cd player. Now the factory cd player will not turn on at all any help?
The factory CD player will not work if you have the new headunit plugged in. Neither will the radio. The audio cables are no longer plugged in to it.
Ok so I basically have to guess how the a.c. and heat will blow... it's not a big deal I was just wondering if I did something wrong
Travis Jackson It should still read out the temperature. You may have unplugged something that should still be plugged in.
@@AJSWoodworks Hey bud, great vid, gave me the reassurance to know I could do this right (and I did, aftermarket HU in my accord, game changer!). Only question is I have a similar issue to Travis - stock HU does not light up at all but AC etc works, I just need to guess what is going on which isnt too hard. Do you know why this is the case and how I would get the stock heating stuff working with the aftermarket unit as well?
Mangowatermelonsmoothy The only reason I can think of would be that you unplugged the cable from the factory radio when installing the headunit, or somehow the plug on the back of the instrument panel isn’t hooked up with the new harness correctly. Otherwise, the old instrument panel shouldn’t have been affected. Sorry, not the most specific advice.
Does it matter which pioneer radio you use
Nope. Just us to be the right size for the bracket that you use.
Did you disconnect the battery before doing this installation?
art rodriguess Yes, it’s usually recommended for doing electrical work, even if it’s minor.
The two screws under the change cup
Will this work with an 06 accord?
Yes, it will.
@@AJSWoodworks so the thing in ur description, that will work with my 06 accord then? With a Sony head unit from bestbuy ?
@@tommyphannn Yes. The center console is exactly the same.
@@AJSWoodworks I’m assuming I would buy that and then have bestbuy do the free installation on the head unit
@@tommyphannn That might work. Especially if you would not like to do the wiring.
If I do this am I going to need the radio code?
17th™ If you disconnect your battery at all, you should need your radio code.
Bro where u get that carbon fiber interior power outlet covers omg
Mukkey Munz It’s one of the stock trim options from the factory.
Is there any type of adapter for wiring?
Mark Grinevich Yes, you can see it in my metra kit video.
@@AJSWoodworks
How about steering wheel stereo controls, will those still work?
@@MarkGrinevich Unfortunately not. However, you can purchase an adapter that will allow them to work again. I just haven't done that yet.
@@AJSWoodworks thanks, I just ordered everything I need. Now if only you can tell me what adapter you're talking about.
Mark Grinevich The adapter for the old to new radio? Or the adapter to get the steering wheel controls to work?
Wht didn’t u turn it on ?
I turned it on, but I’ll have to post a review of it soon.
Where did you connect the parking break wire (light green)?
Here is the video explaining that: th-cam.com/video/s5imZyhWcOY/w-d-xo.html
You can ground your parking brake green wire to the chassis of the car like find a bolt that part of the frame and wrap the copper threads of the bolt and screw it in
how many inches is it ?
7 inches
I didn’t know there was wiring 😢
Does the original unit still turn on and control the A.C?
Inspire Life It does. The only thing that has changed is that nothing audio-wise works on the old radio. It’s only used for a clock and the AC/heat.
So it still displays the climate control on the stock radio?
Keven Pierre-Louis Yes sir.
Hello do you leave the old radio and brackets on it?
Marcus A. Yep, all you have to do is switch the connections. You’re basically left with a “dead” radio that only shows thermostat info.
AJS Woodworks ok thank you
No problem. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
Bro my speakers aint working and I did everything u said
That’s odd. I don’t know what could be wrong. Unless the wiring isn’t quite right.
lmaoo how do you have heated seats tho
EX V6 options
They have a better install kit its 99-7803g
Sean Wiggins I think it looks bad, and I’ve heard that it has issues. It’s also $225, or about $200 more than the kit I bought.
that looks shocking with 2 headunits in my opinion
Alen Rizvan I don’t mind it, I’ve gotten used to the setup.
Can you still control the volume from the steering wheel ?
Nope
AJS Woodworks i have a question i have a 03 honda accord i want to put a aftermarket stereo in once i put it in do i have to unplug the orignal head unit i dont want to have to deal with the radio code
patrick lynch Yes, you have to unplug the old headunit. There’s no way around it that I know of.
@@AJSWoodworks ok so if I unplug it do I need the radio code
patrick lynch Yes, most likely.
Can you still control the volume from the steering wheel?
Jason Sultana Unfortunately not. However, you can purchase a steering wheel control wiring kit that will give you back that function.
AJS Woodworks i have a question i have a 04 honda accord i want to put a aftermarket stereo in unit do i need the radio code
@@bda7dd30 you shouldn’t need a radio code to put in an aftermarket stereo.
@@AJSWoodworks ok when you put in the aftermarket radio did you have to put in a code
