What is that cut of meat? I have never seen anything like it.
And we used to work on a ranch and would buy a side of beef every 6 months.

Cap steaks are simply the trim from a rib eye that's rolled up and tied.

Considering real hard about this unit for the rv. Already have a 22 inch griddle. Just have to wrap my head around pellet smoker for 3 people instead of full blown barrel smoker brimming with meat

If you have access to power this is a great option for RV. Pit Boss also just came out with a battery powered table top pellet smoker so that would be something to deff check out if you don't have access to power.

Didn't see a pronounced sear. Perhaps a longer time over the flame would have with the lid up would have produced a better sear? Looked tasty however. Getting one anyway. Great for a quick week night steak. Thanks Gril Sgt!

Good deals on this smoker right now but after I checked around it seems like the fire tends go back up the auger and into the pellet chamber. To bad because its exactly what i am looking for

I have yet to experience that but a trick I do is if I’m running the smoker really hot (400+) before I start the shutdown cycle I will turn it to 200 degrees for 10 mins to cool down the smoker before I turn it off.

I've been researching this grill for a bit now and comparing to the Treager portable one. The Pit Boss portable one you have is on sale for $300 CAD and the Treager is $600 CAD. I'm leaning towards the Pit Boss. Its my first smoker and have wanted one for years. Thanks for the informative video, I'm learning the in-s and outs through them! Did you have to refill your hopper for these steaks? How long should I expect for 7lb of pellets in hopper to last me, time wise?
    Thanks!

Did you end up getting it? I’m looking into getting one as well. Does it cook good? I’ve seen somethings that the pellet holder has some issues with it but I want to like this grill so I can use it for my apartment and when I go hunting

@@MxBurger I actually did buy this one. It went on sale for $300 CAD. It was a great little smoker but, cooked ribs really well, even a pork butt. But I found the hopper wasn’t big enough for me. It holds 5 pounds and I had to vacuum after that time. Kinda of put a wrench into my ten hour pork butt.
I ended up returning it because I saw that as a flaw. Got the Treager 650! Really you can get any bigger smoker with a larger pellet capacity. The Treager is just a fancy one

Out of curiosity, can you fit 2 rib racks on one of these? I want to buy one but if I can’t fit 2 racks then I won’t bye it.

From some of the reviews, I thought it wouldn’t hold up very well on the first try th-cam.com/users/postUgkxTAV04Wwc8vZvciP7ycqR1S4raCS0TnUc Not only did it hold up well for us, we BBQ’d well into the late night! So well, we could’ve done s’mores and even more. Put together was about 9 min. Will need a screwdriver No parts missing on my order which was a relief! Size big enough for four/five med. size steaks. Size of product is as described in the pics(table top). It was a great extra side addition to our other grills. The price was great as well for our bbq mission.

Oh and to answer your question, I just got back from the market to look at pork butts 😂 sorry, it sounds funny just to say that, and it looks like a pork butt will fit as long as you remove the riser grate that it comes with.

Hey Dillon, Yes. These smokers use real wood (pellets) as fuel and burn in the burn pot.

I purchased this unit a few months ago and used it about five times cleaning it out after each use. I just used it to cook a pork butt and after about eight hour it over heated and damaged itself. Pit Boss will not stand behind their product to replace it. The customer service agent refused to transfer me to a supervisor. This is a terrible company with terrible customer service. This is not a safe grill.

I am a little surprised at the method ... Usually you sear the meat first , and then cook until desired doneness IMHO ...
Now ... You get one strike for putting the seared steaks back on the same tray in the juice/blood ...
and strike 2 for eating with your fingers !
    It's something I would never do , but that's OK .....
    DIS Missed !! lol !!
