I bought one of these 3yrs ago for Christmas, but branded under the "Country Smokers Grill" name. Been a fabulous little grill/smoker and I use it for damn-near everything. The hopper lasts me for several cooking sessions. Have only used it once with my camp trailer, but just bought a Bluetti EB70S and will be using it while exploring more often. I'll pack it, a tent-cot, a small table, cooler, Coleman stove, awning, and a hammock into my Samurai. Roof rack will also bring the kayak or paddleboard along for the ride.

FYI the copper top is the Gen 1. The black top is the Gen 2 sold at Lowes. Gen 2 has an updated controller to maintain temps better, has a pellet drop, can open/close the searing slots without taking the grill off and a few other differences. So the cost difference isn't for the color.

I am glad that I found your video on this unit, although it is one year old.
I was looking at buying a Pit Boss portable, and now they have the battery powered portable, but the price is ridiculous. ($499.00)
I have owned a Jackery Explorer 500 for many years and love it. It is powerful and lasts a long time. I charge it with my Solarsaga 60 solar panel (Or if I need to, I can charge it at home with AC power).
My thought was to buy this Pit Boss portable and use my Jackery Explorer 500 like you did here. I wouldn't worry about drawing too much out of the So-Gen because I can charge it with my solar panel. The big draw of the power is the start up, but once it is started, the auger takes very little power to run. (I like the idea that you can disconnect the heat source, I would use a small propane torch to start the pellets if needed)
Since your cool video has come out, Pit Boss has changed a few things on the portable.
Seeing this video has helped me to make a decision, I am going to go to the store and buy the Pit Boss portable.
By the way, I live in Woodland just a few miles from you. (I'll send you an email from titaniumhen)

Dude you should check out Grilla Grills or Recteq they have the ones that are heavy duty SS parts and the Recteq temp gets over 600 and they can be table top or use the built in folding legs and way more cooking area because the hopper doesn't take up any of the cooking area
