@@dreamersleepwalker seriously my dog has bite other dogs but always it’s because the tiny dog either runs around a corner or jumps my dog from behind.
Causing panic which causes my dog to give his response.
Oh and of course there unleashed this whole process.
You gotta remember when a big dog grabs you *he ain’t letting go* after a real good beating, extensive training telling him to let go or the darker option lethal force aka a gun.
Sooo yeah I actually respect people who walk on the other side of the road away from my dog.
Because lord knows what that other dog will do or what random event will occur that makes my dog snap.

I once worked for a florist as a delivery driver. On my day off, my boss called me asking if I could make 1 delivery because the other driver was too scared to approach a gated house due to "large scary dogs". When I got to the gate to the property, I was greeted by two of the most gorgeous and well trained Dobermans I've ever met. Unable to contain myself, I started praising them with a baby-talk voice and without hesitation I opened the gate and started petting them. Made the delivery no problem and with those two beauties escorting me to the house and back to the gate. Owner was amazed that I didn't call the number at the gate XD. While it doesn't apply to every dog, the way some dogs can sense intention/energy will always blow my mind.

I once lived on property that had two small houses on it about 50 feet apart separated by a courtyard. my neighbor was a nice lady who owned a female Rottweiler. I was well known by this dog, we used to play all the time. very friendly dog. one night I was out in the courtyard at night and my neighbor came home from visiting a friend down the street with her Rottweiler. she let the dog through the gate and turned to latch it. meanwhile the rottie kept coming. I saw her in the dark coming at me fast and low. I didn't know what to do so I called the dogs name. She stopped, her head came up and she turned into the happy playful dog she had always been with me. That dog was all business investigating an unknown threat and became a happy dog once the threat had been identified. I was very impressed. Now, later in life, I own three Rottweilers.

Sounds accurate. Rotties are notorious for having gas/digestive issues. My rottie had such a sensitive tummy that most every kibble gave him diarrhea. I had to buy fancy $70/40lb bag kibble… 10 years ago. That was just too expensive and I ended up cooking my rotts’ meals instead. I created two lists: veggies/meats/grains that upset his tummy and foods that don’t. The ‘don’t’ list was much longer than the do-list. However for the most part it solved his tummy issues with only the occasional farts. At least after getting him on home cooked meals the rare farts didn’t stink anymore. But nothing stank as bad as when my husky would fart 💨 💀

Many years ago, I surprised my German Shepherd when returning home late one night. He charged at me, but having a mouthful of food as I walked in, I couldn't give a command or say anything so he'd recognise my voice.
He only realised that it was me once he'd actually bit me.
Luckily, I naturally put my arm out and as it was winter I was wearing quite a thick jacket, so he didn't penetrate my arm. He only "clamped on" for a second or two until he realised, and I was physically unharmed.

Also, I want to add that Lisa's dog is likely a rottie mix, considering it is 180lbs and was still able to guard the house successfully. I don't see another way it could weigh 180 and move around fast enough.

Same thing with my parent's ridgebacks. Though the big guy is all bark and no bite (he's a 135lb beast, but he's like the guy who always says "hold me back", he really doesn't want any smoke), but his older and smaller sister is the one that gets defensive. She bit our gardener because he had his weed whacker in his hands while walking towards my dad and she just went total defense mode. My dad stopped her after one bite and fortunately it was on a padded portion of his thigh so no skin was broken. My dad tipped him pretty generously and the guy was cool with it since he's been around the dog for 6 months at that point and even stated he probably shouldn't have walked towards my dad with a big thing that looks like a weapon and makes a ton of noise. The big guy just watched the whole thing and then charged in after everything had finished and puffed out his chest like he helped 😂.
I swear, I know they were bred to hunt lions, but the dynamic they have reminds me of a male lion and female lion. Where the females do all the work and the male only steps in to protect the land from other males lol.
They're 11 and 12 now, the girl isn't doing so well now, but we're hoping she's got another year or 2 left in her. Big guy, aside from a tumor on his ankle (which we've removed, but came back. It's benign, but the problem is it's in a spot that is extremely difficult to operate on and 2 vets said they weren't comfortable attempting to remove it... We're doing radiation to try to keep it from swelling and bursting since surgery is always risky with older dogs) looks like he's only 8 or 9. He can't jump as well, but he looks great otherwise.

They will warn and warn you in odd scenrios. That is one reason I adore the breed. They body block, lay on a strangers feet while visiting so when they move it will alert them. Never had one that bite someone. Their presence alone was enough. Then putting themselves in between you and the "danger" waiting for your reaction.

I've never had a protection dog. But I did have a female pitbull that my uncle adopted when I moved from MI to AZ. She got parvo real bad at one point. She got healthy again, but ended up going blind. After about 6 years I went back to MI for the first time to visit. When I walked in the door she went nuts, and acted like she wanted to eat me. But the second she heard my voice say "come hear Abby girl" she turned into the happiest dog I'd ever seen. She was all love and kisses for probably a half hour. It really surprised me that she knew my voice after all that time.

I did this exactly with my black German Shepherd puppy. He was there to protect my son and before I would open that door I would tell him it's mama to let him hear me first as he was growling softly instead of barking. This still didn't disengage him in case somebody else were to use this phrase or record me. It was a combination of my voice, the statement, and him seeing me as I open that door that would cause him to disengage and not attack who comes through it. This helped us prevent from the frequent attempted break-ins and keep everyone safe. This is especially since I left him on a guard command when this happened. From day one he been told to protect my son. Unless he could verify it was his mom you aren't getting to that little boy. On several occasions he let me know vocally when something was amiss in regards to my son. This dog was so protective that he actually retrained the other dogs on site to make me and my son safer. This all at the age of 4months.

My exes friends in Chicago gave us a key and we had an open invitation there whenever we were in town. Usually we gave notice and showed up at an appropriate time. They had a female black lab/Sheppard mix and she knew and loved us, but when we showed up at 2 am when everyone was asleep all I heard once inside was the low threatening growl of what i new to be a powerful and protective animal. The lights were off and she was a medium sized dog, meaning she was completely invisible in the dark.
Thankfully I entered first as my ex would have freaked and run. I said her name softly and said it was me, she kept growling. I put my hand out palm up at what I knew to be her snout level and said “Jasmine it’s me” I heard two cautions steps advance then felt a snarled snout touch my hand. She then leapt backwards into a full body tail wag followed by six foot leaps in the air from a standing position.
She was not trained as a guard dog, but make no mistake about it, one wrong move on my part or from my ex and I would have been attacked by that dog. No matter how well you know a dog, always remember that they still have a primal wolf in them and they can and will be dangerous. Respect them and they will respect you.

We had an adorable pound puppy that was harmless, except twice. Both times were an appropriate protective reaction.
-His best buddy walked up to him without talking and received a bark and a bite on the ankle. The second that the dog recognized the smell, he let go and dropped in apology. The sun had been behind the guy. He was a construction contractor that had just come off of a job. He still had his tool belt on. Strange dark silhouette shape, smells, noises...coming for the dog's family. Our friend felt awful for scaring our dog. Fortunately, he wasn't hurt badly.
-Another time was at our rural area house. Normally, we heard a bark that someone had arrived. The dog would watch our reaction to the newcomer. We'd be relaxed, greeted our visitor, then, "Thank you, friend," to the dog. The dog would give them a sniff, then wander back to resume his interrupted nap. One day, the dog instead got in front of my mom. He slightly squatted/sat in front of her feet. He never relaxed, he kept his guard up, and he had his ears and neck hair up. This was *NOT* normal behavior. Mom paid attention and stayed put. The visitor noticed the dog's reaction. He stayed by his truck, he talked for a bit, then left. We later learned that he was in the early stages of a mental decline. He was a HS friend of my parents extremely damaged by the Vietnam War. He hadn't realized how bad that he had been getting until he saw the normally friendly dog protecting my mom.
    I miss that dog.
More importantly, I miss those two men who were gone from our lives too soon, one from cancer, the other to self harm.
