I used the identical method training my Cane Corso. He was 9 months when I could walk or change direction any time at any speed and he will never let the leash get taught. He’s 10 months now and gets distracted at festivals or with kids or dogs playing, but he won’t pull in crowds, but will if we get close enough to a dog or kids moving fast and speaking excitedly. He’s still getting desensitized. Whenever we’re walking, he’s constantly looking at me, next to me, and if he gets out a little in front, he knows I can change direction and it always watching and will somehow know to change direction. My small 6 year old boy and 9 year old daughter can walk him easily. You’re probably gonna make the positive only freaks have a heart attack, but who cares. This is better and safer for the dog, especially a huge powerful dominant breed like the Italian Mastiff. Respect.
Thanks for the comment(s). Yea the positive only trainers love to try and bash me. I didn't think this video was too aggressive even for them. No complaints yet. Thanks for watching
@@AmericanStandardK9 People can gripe all they want about how you train dogs and how mean it is...the way I look at it, if you wait for your dog to do what you want and only reward positive behavior without correcting negative behavior, then the training you can get done in 20 minutes while talking about what you are doing versus the similar level of training by those bashing you that take 6+ weeks, I'd rather a dog yip a couple of times and get 90% of the work done in a short time. I'd rather my dog listen and walk safely with me than get distracted and pull and run in front of a vehicle or pull me in front of a vehicle while taking many weeks to teach these lessons. However, he's a big strong beast, so if I ever were to need it, I know pressure would be applied evenly and comfortably. Don't cheap out or they can cause pain and damage. I put an ecollar on him everywhere we go and love to get him off leash. I don't really use it unless I can't see him or he's too far away to hear me. I can use the ecollar to stimulate him and he will know a command is coming and find me. Then we have hand signals for distance. I have 3 different treats I take out with me, my method taught to me by me dad (ex-airforce) was using a choke collar on my dogs with almost identical methods, my dogs all were so well trained that when walking I had to look down to ensure the collar was still attached, now I have a 4 month old border collie and he is already doing that where I have to look down to verify he’s there, now does he get distracted sure he does, dogs birds people etc but with the prong collar he instantly snaps out of it and quickly darts back to my side. I keep watching these videos to learn more and try techniques by trainers like you so I can learn better ways, like how to use the prong collar, I’m learning even though I’ve trained dogs doesn’t mean I can’t learn new tricks too. Thank you for your video, it’s so valuable to us all, and I know what it takes to make a video, so again thanks.
I have been watching and reinforcing your teachings. I have a Belgian malinois and she is 1000 HP. I train with her 3 times a day you saved my dogs life. Keep sharing the love.

This video is awesome. I recently picked up a pitbull puppy that loves to do his own thing on walks. After our first walk using this method I already see a massive improvement in his behavior. Nowhere near the level shown in the video but he isnt pulling/staring/running after distractions anymore and is more attentive to me rather than his surroundings after 2 short sessions. The way I see it, it is heartbreaking to hear him yelp but im reassuring him the whole time letting him know he is doing well in his training and i'd rather correct anything negative he could possibly do in the future when he's fully grown that would make a Karen or bystander insist he be put down for it!
Thank you so much for going SLOW and highlighting the pre training leading up to loose leash walking. It has occurred to us we need to take several steps backwards in training our 70 lb male Boxer. He's out of control on leash and my daughter's and I are small. Worked on some drills today in the house and walkway without taking an actual walk. I've introduced the clicker today as well and he responded well. Baby steps. I need to size up his prong collar, the last time we introduced it we dove right into a walk that ended poorly. Just getting used to it was an incredible tip! So appreciate your clear, concise explanations. So many trainers leave steps out unintentionally, and it leads to confusion and frustration.
Prong collars cause no trachea damage and if you have a dog that is causing themselves wounds with that collar you as an owner are doing it wrong. Start with a puppy and train it with a prong collar so you don't have to do more than flick it lightly for a second to cement proper vs improper with very little trouble. Kids don't like their privileges being taken away but it's necessary to teach. A 2 second light correction for a lifetime of good behavior is a very very valuable trade off.
Thanks for taking time to explain and demonstrate using the prong collar to assist with training a dog to overcome distractions & pulling while in public on a leash. I have a 2 year old 60lb bull terrier that can pull this 200lb man wherever she wants to take him. Working without a prong collar so far she does pretty good most of the time unless she encounters people on small wheels (scooters, skates etc).

Its very interesting watching people train dogs, one part of you says that its crazy and animal abuse, but then the other side of you is like, well its a dog and you need to train it properly. Not only super informative but when you realized the leash was still on when she was playing the “cat and mouse” game and corrected yourself openly and honestly that just further backed up the respect I already have for you as a trainer dude. Excellent work.
You are absolutely the best dog trainer I have found on TH-cam!! I just got a German Shepherd puppy, I am her second home and she is 4 mo old. She has traumatized my older cat, how can I stop it? the hard thing is that its a outside cat, is there a way since I can't trap him? 😩
I tried this with my shepherd mix and it helped so much , now every time she gets ahead she stops turns back and looks at me and comes sits by me . Thank you for this video ❤
I think your style of training is the best. I watched another trainer 15 minutes ago & it didn't seem as good as your style with the same breed you're training here. This dog was almost 3 years old. I'm not a pro, but I'm sure at that age with little training it must have bad habits. Keep up the good work. RLTW

I have a mini american shepard that pulls so hard he has pulled my mother off balance because he saw a dog off leash that he wanted to play with. I swore i would never put a prong collar on him (7 months 25 pounds)... well.. i gave him snacks and got him used to wearing a 2.25 mm prong collar loose around his neck when we go outside to go potty for 4 days before i double hooked to it with his martingale collar. I had the leash he took off like a freight train to sniff a neighbors dog that was walking by with his owner and he self corrected.. he looked back and saw my butt walking the other way... he never yelped or anything but holy shit he stopped darting off. My 2 big dogs wear 2.25 mm prong collars and they walk right next to me. I only have the collars on when we go for walks. 2 big dogs walk off leash in safe areas.. not near busy roads.

I watched my cousin train his purebred old english bulldog, and it made me sad to watch him pull and tug at his neck, but now that I am older I realize its necessary, and that dog has such great manners to this day... plays with kids etc..
@@codejunki567 yea. I was some what against the prong collar but after seeing eu list dogs be able to run free and work hard and look proud of themselves I changed my mind.
I would rather a man eater be able to be under control on a thread than for it to kill or be killed because of it's problems.
Oh my gosh, she is so beautiful that baby girl. Great session. Thank you so much. You and The Dog Daddyy are my favorite trainers to watch. I just discovered you know each other…and both have a great sense of humor, as well as so great at what you do. Awesome! God bless. 😌🌹
Fantastic video. Thank you very much!
This man is so respected that truck literally saw him and went the opposite way
Dude u are thee dog inspiration I swear one of thee hands down best trainers out there 🙌 we well I look up to u as a trainer an all my buddies tell me they notice my progress as a trainer an our coordination
I followed your advice with the prong collar and u turn… it took about 2 or 3 times and my dog got the message
I just want to say I have a pit bull and she was so terrible like dragging me around and I used a regular leash but all the same techniques and in twenty minutes I swear she’s a total different dog I don’t even have to hold the leash and my neighbors dog was at they’re window and by twenty mi it’s Athena looked but kept walking and yesterday she would have attacked and pulled my arm out of its socket. I swear by this dudes techniques and I’m excited to see what else he has to teach so I’m liking and subscribing Fs
You must be great dad if u even put half of the effort n thought into your kids! God's bless!!
Thx 4 this detailed tutorial.
THANK YOU FOR SHOWING US YOUR TRAINING METHODS ,YOU ARE GREAT TRAINER WITH HIGH LEVEL OF PROFESSIONAL SKILLS! IS REALLY GREAT TO SEE !
The BEST vid on walk and heel i ever saw . Thnks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
I just got my blue boy he is 4months and completely knows nothing not like ur girl she so good.
Not only super informative but when you realized the leash was still on when she was playing the “cat and mouse” game and corrected yourself openly and honestly that just further backed up the respect I already have for you as a trainer dude. Excellent work.
Man this has got to be the best dog training channel on TH-cam
She is a beautiful dog
Took prong off before showcasing her pulling, I love the care.
that car at 7:55 decided to take the long way home 😂😂
You are absolutely the best dog trainer I have found on TH-cam!! I just got a German Shepherd puppy, I am her second home and she is 4 mo old. She has traumatized my older cat, how can I stop it? the hard thing is that its a outside cat, is there a way since I can't trap him? 😩
All i had to do was watch this video and my dog understood the task😂
Excellent video. Very clear instructions. Thank you
Insane, I tried to teach my boxer not to pull for like 5 years lol. You knocked it out in 18 minutes.
Great Video.
I tried this with my shepherd mix and it helped so much , now every time she gets ahead she stops turns back and looks at me and comes sits by me . Thank you for this video ❤
Brilliant and knowledgeable! Thank you for sharing so much detail and changing lives!
I think your style of training is the best. I watched another trainer 15 minutes ago & it didn't seem as good as your style with the same breed you're training here. This dog was almost 3 years old. I'm not a pro, but I'm sure at that age with little training it must have bad habits. Keep up the good work. RLTW
Awesome video GARRET you just keep putting out the hits
I kind of Laughed 😅 because "She" is a Sweet Girl !!
Another awesome educational video! I am so glad I found your channel! I get my corso on March 29th and you have provided me with some great training information 👌
suggestion: please reduce the exposure a little so that it's easy on the eyes of the person watching, aside for that, I love what you're teaching.
turn your screen brightness down, it isn’t too bright for me
@@Kate98755 Not everyone is going to watch this on their phone.
@@tiggs03 never indicated that
ma man my Pomeranian is so protective she’s even barking a lot when my aunt/cousin come to my house😭 a pet/cuddle would work for one minute 😭😭😭😭😭❤
Love Love Love ❤️
I love your videos so that means i must get aa prong for my dog
those drools though .. very beautiful & artsy .. blowed by the wind.. in slow motion 🤣
Great job as always.
Thank you
@@AmericanStandardK9 Just got a 9wk Corso. At what age can I start this method, with prong collar? Now? Also she is biting the leash like a toy/game along with falling over and rolling around. Hot mess.
Loving it!
Thank you sir I learned a lot from this keep up the good job 👍
Love your work
Thank you so much for these videos
only had to watch the first minute to know that you know what you are doing. great looking pup.
Thanks so much for the support!
@@AmericanStandardK9 Anytime. My wife and I trained Human Scent discrimination Bloodhounds for the better part of 30 years. Few years back, Hollywood stuck me and our last Bloodhound in a Movie with Sam Worthington, Called "The Shack". Heavy script, short story long I got to use our Bloodhound (Au) in a movie to track Serial Killers that target little girls. If you happen to see it, I am the guy in the closing scene that is being hulled down the hill by AU the Bloodhound, foggy, dark and right into the camera. Hi lite of my life, meeting the Movie people.
Gorgeous puppy
I just got a Carne Corso, and he is 3½ months old. We have just started to learn how to walk, yesterday. Yes, i am having issues.
When is a good time to start teaching these awesome dogs to walk??
That was awesome thank you
Thanks for this. I spoke to you when Xena was 2 1/2 months. She just turned 4 months. She sits to get leash put on. But now I’m ready for the prong to help her with pulling during our walk. I was hood the leash close to me to keep her beside but it hurt my arm and I’m sure pulling in her trac like you said. So Thanks for this video as well
These videos are awesome.
Your Dog is awesome 😍
Great Video, I was always looking for you guys to show us how to do it. 🙌🏾👍🏾
Thanks ❤
Beautiful puppy
I’ve binged watched at least 30 of your vids and I don’t have a dog lol awesome vids guys
You are the best
Love your videos ty
thanks for the tips daddy
AYO??
Absolutely bad ass
I love how the dog's hair is so glossy! Is this characteristic of the breed or that's really just a healthy dog?
Yes it is characteristic to Cane Corso's
Both
Thanks man
Would you use a prong collar on a smaller dog like a mini Aussie doodle? I'm hoping to find a German shepherd mini Aussie doodle to train for high heart rate alert service dog.
She's gorgeous
Do y’all have a video on taking your dog to the dog park to get it used to being around other dogs and to get it to listen to you when it’s time to leave?
Don’t go to dog parks. They’re awful.
That’s the first thing he would tell you, too. He’s mentioned several times that he doesn’t like dog parks.
There is always doggy daycare you could do weekly.
Fantastic
Great session is made by you, beautiful cane corso puppy BTW
Splendid tips.
She is absolutely beautiful 🥰🥰🥰
9 month old 97 lb rottie stopped pulling in just minutes-Thank you!!! Still really struggling with lunging at strangers and other dogs on walks (not aggressive, just very excited). Can you give us any advice?
How is your dog now have you any tips? Our american bully is a pulling on his leash (regular, not a prong) and biting it to? X
Her coughing up the little piece of food 😂
I have a lovely German shepherd about 9 month old how do I figure out what size prong collor i should use
Where do you get the prong collar and the treat bag you wear on your waist? How long do you use the prong collar?
i like how he calls getting treats "getting paid" lol
What video is it where you demonstrate how to prep them with the prong collar? We just bought ours from your link!
Here's a link with several of our prong collar videos. We also cover proper use in detail in The Perfect Walk on DIYK9.com and the course is included in our affordable monthly membership. www.youtube.com/@AmericanStandardK9/search?query=prong%20collar
Man this has got to be the best dog training channel on TH-cam
He is one of the best dog trainers out there. I took his courses and raised my cane corso to be a well-trained housebroken member of my family instead of making jokes you should pay attention you might learn something
From what age should you do the U turn correction?
i just kept a 4 month old german shepard someone could not take care of. she is great. indoors she pays attention , she comes , she sits , she knows what NO means and listens the first time you tell her, and i can use her food to train her. when i take her outdoors however , she completely ignores food, treats AND me lol. what can i use instead of treats to get her attention or teach her things outdoors ? or is this normal for her age ?
Why don’t they teach this at school? Beats me 🤷🏻♂️
Sir, Thank you for your service. Everyone with or wanting a dog should know how to handle them
