As a cobbler who glues a dozen shoes a week, i use the contacts cement. Works well. Just a tip, he said it briefly, but its very important, if the surface is porous (cloth, crape, leather) you need a second coat, after the first drys a bit.
This is the method the use when they MAKE the shoes! Manufacturers don't want you to know how to repair them properly like this because you won't need to buy a new pair. Thanks for the video. :)
You got a point, I am looking for the type of glue they used in factories which I saw in many videos for more than a week, it's like a white glue but I can't find it in any stores so I sorted out to used contact cement like this one but different brand, it is really strong, it is almost 6 months now I can still used my repaired shoes well.
Dude, thank you! I have a pair of Vans that I abused by skating in them and the whole sole came off except for the heel. I used the contact cement and they’ve been holding up for the past four weeks and they’re still going strong! Respect, brother👍🏻
Thanks, Doc. I just used the Contact Cement remedy to glue a rubber tread (the toe ) back onto my wife's favourite golf sandals and it worked perfectly, just as you have so aptly demonstrated. Since I had Shoe Goo on-hand I also made sure there were no little gaps for water to penetrate right at the toe. I think we have a decent repair and want to thank you for your help.
Great stuff. I also repair my own shoes but i do it a lil different. First i apply acetone on the upper and the sole and heat it up with a hair dryer to losen old glue and then wipe it off. After its clean of old glue then i apply glue specifically for shoes. Works ok but the process is longer, yours is shorter
I'm listening to this dude from now on man I been looking for a good bond glue for my project restore the "playoffs, OG 1997 black/white and red. This dude knows something from what I see. I will try the glue cement he used!!
Because Shoe Goo builds a permanent bond (as oppose to contact cement which is not permanent and comes loose under heat), I am sticking to Shoe Goo (with masking tape and rubber bands during curing) for fixing my separated sneaker soles. I am sure many will find contact cement works well, It's just a personal choice. Thanks for the video.
I agree that Shoe Goo isn't good for this type of repair, for the very reasons you mention, that it doesn't stick unless you can keep the pieces clamped together for many hours (hard to do with shoes.) Shoe Goo is decent for other kinds of repairs, especially holes, or breaching chunks of a sole that has fallen off.
Came across your video, after taking shoes to shop for half of sole to be repaired, and guy tells me, he can't fix them cause they were dry rotted, which was a lie, they just have a cork looking bottom. Thanks for sharing this video.
Wow! I have used contact cement on other projects and never thought of using it for shoes and he’s right that it glued to itself. Now, I’m going to share a miracle. The shoes I now buy that will never come apart is called ASICS.I don’t know what they use but the sole NEVER separates. I run a sprinkler company and deal with shoes a lot and this issue has always frustrated me. You might ask why I need to glue if I’m buying ASICS. Well, I buy other brands to run around in and when they get older I start using them in sprinkler work and they eventually come apart so the contact cement tip is something I’m going to try
If your in a hurry Gorilla super glue works and lasts a while. You have to keep everything clamped down tight and I like to trace the seam one more time after the 1st round has dried. If there is any crack to be filled I fill it. I may try shoe goo also. Years ago just the rubber part wrapping the toe tip eventually came loose but by that time they were pretty much shot and needed replacing. I just dont remember shoes coming apart while they still looked new years ago.
Wow Doc you’re a mind reader. Also can you do a video on different Bermuda grasses because there are so many hybrids. I’ve narrowed my selection down to Celebration and Blackjack Bermuda grass because I’m doing a renovation.
That's why it didn't work for me??!! Lol. I didn't bother to take any time to read or follow instructions! And they say men don't use directions, I beg to differ!! We made them out to be wrong Doc, or backwards anyway. I thank you, my shoes thank you and my feet are going to be over joyed not having the killer job of breaking in a new pair so soon! Today marks the rest of my days, as the beginning to always reading instructions and following the directions. I really thought there was only one way, the ole' apply and stick method and even throwed the rest of the brand new bottle in the trash, literally thinking it was just a fluke bottle that got by the QA's in production. So I was just going to buy another and try it again, oh how glad I am to have seen your video. So I'm one that is glad it's not about the lawn!! Thank you Doc and God bless!
I have tried the goo and he is exactly correct........if you cannot keep pressure on the two pieces being glued, it will not work. I used a 12 inch concrete block on top of mine and it still did not seal properly. On top of that, it makes a mess that is difficult to get off your shoes when it runs out the edge. These were just yard shoes that I tried it own but I vowed never to use it again.
Anecdoite: I'm an American citizen, but Ilived in South America for ten years. While there, I initially had great difficulty finding contact cement. The problem was in the name. Down ther they cal it "Goma zapatera" which literally means shoe rubber or shoe glue..
Thank you for this video. I need to repair a pair of bowling shoes. I wasn't sure what type of glue to use. I'm not sure I would have thought about good old contact cement.
That just recently happened to my Colby S9 color wave sneakers but does it really work the shoe goo? And how long does it last and is it better than gorilla glue that's what I really want to know.
You mentioned it'll last a couple months....nothing will last longer? I've a pair of boots that I've never worn....found them in a closet after quite a few years and the glue dried out and the sole is hanging off. Would the cement be good for boots also?
I broke my head phone the circle thingy fell off but the good thing is that it still works but is it possible if i use the 1st or 2nd method to fix my head phone?
the biggest secret of this type of repair is the ending. How do you make sure the thread stays in? He has not secured that. And for that reason when you start walking it comes apart. He skipped the most important bit.
I bought new soles to put on my Reiker shoes, cause the soles were thin. I can't get the contact cement to stick to the bottom of the shoes. Any ideas? We sanded both the bottom of the shoes and the new soles.
Well done video. I find it very poor when you look at what you pay for these sneakers sometimes hundreds of dollars I have never had a pair wear out they all fall apart like in the video. One wonders how intentional is that? Use poor quality glue in a couple of years they will fall apart. We can then sell them a brand new pair?
my one and only running shoes soles came off today because I dry it on a direct sunlight. making the original glue from the soles doesn't wrk anymore. broke my heart into pieces but it was my mistakes..
Does the contact cement leave them flexible? I know I used some super glue on a pair of flip flops and it made them very stiff in that area where I applied the glue.
For the life of me, I can't honestly remember the last time i had a sole come off and I'll abuse sneakers till there are holes in the heels. Do you all scrape your toes every time you walk??
I saw a video the other day. The guy used a tire plug kit on the bottom and put air back in them with a bike tire pump with ball needle. Once he liked amount of air he finished the plug.
David Cabrera you might be able to send them to mike and they’ll give you new ones. My vapormaxes popped and they are sending my a voucher for new ones
Always thought contact cement was a very effective glue, now I'll try it on shoes that I just got worn in and the front parts separated. Also, suggestion for another video - "How To Use a Tripod When Making youtube Videos"

Seriously can't find a good pair of shoes for my teenager that aren't broken within 3 months
@Barry Manilowa same problem here, I think they are cutting corners.
@Jake Rhodes How about a rubber sole on a boot? Contact Cement also?
This is the method the use when they MAKE the shoes! Manufacturers don't want you to know how to repair them properly like this because you won't need to buy a new pair.

😂 😂 😂 😂 LOL.
laptrip HAHAHA
HAHAHHA

How long has the repair lasted while being used?
dude thanks for the tip, im a part time reseller and i come across tons of shooes with this problem and now this is gonna change evrything for me...
Came across your video, after taking shoes to shop for half of sole to be repaired, and guy tells me, he can't fix them cause they were dry rotted, which was a lie, they just have a cork looking bottom. Thanks for sharing this video.

I've been using double sided automotive 3M tape. It holds pretty well for awhile, though if it gets wet in the rain it usually fails

Omg! You just saved me a Ton of money? I am going to try the second method! You are amazing Sir! Haha 😆 Thank you 🙏 for your video! Excellent 👍🏼🔥👋

Do that outside, that contact cement is really strong, unless you like getting high then go for it but do it some where well ventilated
That's what happens when you don't drink... you enjoy life's little moments.
How To with Doc I don’t drink either, but I do work in construction and have had my share of times working with contact cement.
This fixed my Nike Tennis Shoes. Success! Thanks!
Anecdoite: I'm an American citizen, but Ilived in South America for ten years. While there, I initially had great difficulty finding contact cement. The problem was in the name. Down ther they cal it "Goma zapatera" which literally means shoe rubber or shoe glue..
Thanks so much for posting this....helped save a pair of vintage Adidas.
Thank you for this video. I need to repair a pair of bowling shoes. I wasn't sure what type of glue to use. I'm not sure I would have thought about good old contact cement.

Great video. Gonna try these on my Foamposite’s
Thanks, Doc! Looking forward to learning more cool, useful tips! Thanks for all you do!
You're going to need a "how to repair your own azz" video once your wife sees those dirty shoes on the kitchen countertop and stove.
Hi Doc. Love your videos! I was looking for the E6000 video on repairing items like air mattresses. I can't seem to find it?
Have you ever tried flex glue or gorilla glue?
I'm curious about flex seal glue
You mentioned it'll last a couple months....nothing will last longer? I've a pair of boots that I've never worn....found them in a closet after quite a few years and the glue dried out and the sole is hanging off. Would the cement be good for boots also?
Shoe makers don’t realize how hard we work in those tennis shoes, if you work in a yard! We should be the shoe testers!
What is the name of the contact cement??
Thank you so much DOC.
Thanks Doc. ..just noticed my foodservice shoes are pealing at the tips and they are faitly new skechers.
Thanks Doc. I was about to toss a pair of Jordans, but I think I'll just repair them. 😇👍👍👍
What if your shoe sole is just loose from the top should i add glue
I broke my head phone the circle thingy fell off but the good thing is that it still works but is it possible if i use the 1st or 2nd method to fix my head phone?
That's just contact cement. You probably paid 5x for that tube. Thanks tho for sharing your application method! Good ideas!
What tube? Watch the video.
Hi, do you know the type of glue they used in shoes in the factory like Nike, Adidas etc?
ikr dat what i was looking for
Barge Infinity cement. Look for the green can green can. Should be able to get it on ebay or Amazon.
Now it's time to clean off your counter-top before your wife begins to prepare dinner on it! Lol.
😂😂😂
the biggest secret of this type of repair is the ending. How do you make sure the thread stays in? He has not secured that. And for that reason when you start walking it comes apart. He skipped the most important bit.
Good thing you have a roof over your head and you are indoors for that thunderstorm DOC! LOL
thx, I'm gonna try it. my roshe run broke and separate into 2 pieces. now I would try to contact cement them together.. the outsole and the shoe
I’ll have to try that. Shoe Goo didn’t last long and you do have to find a way to hold the two parts together.
Have you ever had the rubber sole of the shoe reform and stick itself together?
With the coronavirus going on and stores being closed this is great!
Thanks you saved two pairs of golf shoes.
I bought new soles to put on my Reiker shoes, cause the soles were thin. I can't get the contact cement to stick to the bottom of the shoes. Any ideas? We sanded both the bottom of the shoes and the new soles.

Please try Flex seal(It’s the only thing I got) My soles about to fall off and they don’t make the shoe model anymore DX!
my one and only running shoes soles came off today because I dry it on a direct sunlight. making the original glue from the soles doesn't wrk anymore. broke my heart into pieces but it was my mistakes..
Great video video.,nice sharing sir.,👋👋I’m new friends here 👍🤝🇲🇾
what are other names for contact cement. i cannot find it in my country.
The secrete in order to repair ur shoes is that its got be done on the kitchen counter, otherwise u will waste ur time...
why the hell does new shoes . seldom worn but the damn sole keep dropping off
Doc, in your experience, how well does contact cement hold rubber to metal, say non-skid strips to ladder rungs?
Use E6000 you'll struggle to ever get it off. Needs to cure for full 24 hours and be held in place.
Going to try thank you
Does the contact cement leave them flexible? I know I used some super glue on a pair of flip flops and it made them very stiff in that area where I applied the glue.
the real champ is Barge Cement. I've moved on. No more shoe goo.
Being in the laboratory and brings out a paper plate!! Priceless! LOL! :)
Brand New Vans $80 Hi-Tops caught out in the rain,....THANKS!!!! 👍👍👍
why are there a lot of thumb-downs? seems like it works. i'm gonna try it. thanks.
Thanks for the tip.
Is this available in Philippines 🇵🇭
I have A pair of shoes by Nike That are very similar in did the same thing
Big help Doc!
Why don't you stitch it so it would last longer?.
Thanks for the video!
Thank you!
For the life of me, I can't honestly remember the last time i had a sole come off and I'll abuse sneakers till there are holes in the heels. Do you all scrape your toes every time you walk??
2 days and we get shoes? Lol thanks Doc!
Nice scientific method
Thanks for the video. Love from India!
Is the contract cement heavy
I LOVE TH-cam!
Barge cement
This is good
Living here in Florida, I've had several pairs of shoes separate and fall apart. I hear that the heat and humidity is part of the cause?
Shoe Goo is useless! Lasted just a week on my sneakers I go walking in every day.
You ever heard of duct tape? use this to keep it together, then remove.
Picking shoes goo residue off my fingers as I watch this
I like the video im gunna try i on leather
How long does it last ?
Ty so much
is definitely I give it a go to fixe my expensive trainers thanks a gain.
Now if you can teach us how to fix our airmax deflated air bubble... 😂
Dude I came here to find out which glue to use and at: 3:30 your wife stole the show.
What a beast
4:18 Very good idea!
Barge Cement is the best.
I have the same problem with the nike in the video cause i have that nike also
Bob Ross fix shoe. like the voice
Always thought contact cement was a very effective glue, now I'll try it on shoes that I just got worn in and the front parts separated. Also, suggestion for another video - "How To Use a Tripod When Making youtube Videos"
Hey Doc... stop sniffing your wife's shoes
Will the contact cement work on leather shoes?
Thank man, the original shoe Good sucked
Aren’t those glues toxic and could seep into your skin?
its on the sole of the shoe...not on the inside where it can seep through your sock
YES ✅ Thanks so much Doc
