***** Anyone who is headstrong by nature is going to sound dumb as time goes on. As a listener you have to take what you like and ignore what you don't. Thankfully, unlike many headstrong TV personalities, Maher and his show has many redeeming qualities and he also is a good counter to mainstream/corporate media.
You both are just really bad at trolling. This isnt even funny. Both of your comments swings between sad and stupid. It would be really nice if you guys just quit.
After a couple of weeks of pretty good episodes, I think Bill was behaving off tonight. His attacks during the conversation on mental health were very personal and unwarranted. And he needs to get off his high horse of Clinton.

I think Andrew Sullivan was totally right about Hillary Clinton, but of course, Maher kept refuting with empty arguments like "she's boring but not bad." Also, he was really insensitive about Sullivan's mom. People in the comments are right; Maher was really off his game tonight...
I think part of it was Bill feeling like he didn't have a good comeback to Andrew's criticism of Hilary (which he didn't) and tried to get a dig in on a completely different topic. And it was the most insensitive time to do something like that, especially when Sullivan was talking about the stigma that mentally ill people go through. Bill illustrated that stigma perfectly with his asinine comment.
+Movie Muscle I've been fairly outspoken against Hillary (go Bernie!) but I think Sullivan went way too far with his criticisms. He went from making a few fair point to just throwing out a bunch of nonsense and insults. Once he got to mentioning the emails, he completely lost me on this. Though, Bill answered with the same sophistry he's been using for weeks now.
+Kaleb Adams I think Andrew raised some solid points and Bill didn't have a good refutation. Yes, the right and media have been blowing the email thing a little out of proportion but as the highest official in the State Department, she knew she should be using secure accounts and servers to handle official information. It's not nothing that she chose not to. And she flip-flopped as usual, saying first she did nothing wrong, then saying she was sorry it was taken the wrong way (a non-apology) then finally taking responsibility. It doesn't mean she's in on a conspiracy as to what happened with Benghazi or anything else that Fox "News" would have you believe. It's just a irresponsible decision by a woman who wants to become President. She has wanted to be POTUS for years now, she would have known that it would hurt her reputation if the private server became public, she just thought no one would find out.

+Movie Muscle Depends. I agree with Sullivan that Hillary has no core convictions. She's a boring centrist and she certainly isn't against the TPP. But that's not the GOP rap against her, is it? It's Benghazi or Libya or e-mails and that's just a lot of bullshit. As much as Bill plays the tole of "the most liberal talk show host", he isn't. His more or less blatant endorsement of Hillary tonight proves it.
I find it funny how he's "ready for Hillary", but couldn't even name any of her achievements. During the show Andrew asked him to name a significant accomplishment, he couldnt! He then tried to defer to Anne-Marie who also struggled.
I guess I shouldn't be too suprised. Especially after considering the fact that HBO is owned by Time Warner (they also own CNN), a company which has donated hundreds of thousands to Hillary Clinton in the past.

Couldn't agree more. I really wish Bill would stop shilling for Hilary. He dismisses anyone with valid concerns about her becoming president out of hand the way a lot of "progressives" seem to and doesn't even try to counter their points. Pretty ironic considering he's one of the only ones who call out people on the left for capitulating to Islamists. How Bernie doesn't get mentioned during that whole segment about Hilary's weaknesses is beyond me, especially considering he's gaining on her in the polls and he and Lawrence Lessig are on the show NEXT WEEK. For Bill to act like there isn't real opposition and competition to her from the left is completely fatuous. I used to think of Bill as being very independent and objective although strongly liberal, but now unfortunately I'm beginning to question that.

+Ricardo Chavarin He has HIV and his mom is bi-polar, sad but irrelevant. The issue was kids on ADHD meds and how easily they are prescribed dangerous drugs. Some anti-depressants actually lead to a higher suicide risk for kids and drug companies are aware of that.

He has got a point, and it is very iffy is Hillary and Trump, or anybody and Trump are debating what that is going to look like. I think this was one of the best Overtime segments in a very long time. This had very calm and concise explanations of a variety of topics, there were no arguments, no petty partisan bickering, no out of control laughing or yelling, and even though there were some humorous quips thrown in it was diverse, informative, and intelligent. Also, the "Founder's Hairdo" is gonna be a thing very soon. Kudos all around.

He has also remarked before, this is why we let the smart people run the country. Even Reagan knew this. For all of his faults, and he had many, he supported the advancement of science. It's like the problem we think we have with Islamic extremism in Australia right now and our problem is trivial compared to our big neighbour Indonesia and that hotbed of "secularism" (it's in the constitution) in Turkey. There's only one answer long term. Education.

Andrew Sullivan makes all of these points for his argument and Bill responses with, "Were you molested?" Seriously? I know Bill has a hard-on for Hillary and is part of the Bernie media blackout, but damn..Molestation? And his audience claps for molestation, but boos/remains silent when he makes jokes about women(an example being earlier in this episode). Bill was off the mark, and so is his audience.

I'm a vocal Bill Maher fan, but wow was he reeling with poor form and substance last night. I'm sure the smart and likable conservative, Andrew Sullivan - if he thought about it and didn't just react - would known who looked like the ass with Bill's "Enough about your mother" comment. I would have loved to hear Sullivan's profane retort. Too bad Mr. Politically Incorrect censored it.

If you're trying to tell me Bill made the quick and off-camera decision to censor Sullivan in the blip of five seconds (assuming there was any delay _and_ assuming he knew Sullivan's reply would be fit into such a minimised window of time), then you're breaking the principle of Occam's razor.

I did a little research on online and found that Bill's show is not "recorded live" but 'live, live.' So Sullivan's words apparently weren't silenced. It sure looked like it on video. Here's a quote of Bill published in Variety on April 13, 2015:
“Live on tape means ‘not live,’ of course. It was live at some point. The difference with our show is it is ‘live’ live. As I’m saying it, you are seeing it,” he said. “It does add an extra, kind of tightrope element to it, because you can’t take anything back or editorially fudge it. It is what it is.”
So thank you for the polite correction and interesting allusion to Occam's Razor, which I happily looked up for my own edification.

+Fuloqwam That exchange was during the show and not on Overtime. Basically, Maher is of the opinion that we over prescribe medication to kids. He wasn't necessarily insulting Sullivan's mother, but saying that we rush to medicate and don't take into account that people can just be assholes. Sullivan made it personal by bringing his mother's issues up. I took it as a simple disagreement. It was a tad uncomfortable to watch, but I didn't feel it was insulting at all.

An angry, unfocused, ignorant, rude version of Bill Maher. Some of the worst interactions and arguments I've ever seen on Real Time...especially with Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Sullivan. What a chilly, useless episode. I feel poorly for the guests.
Its not just chemical, its in your mind. My dad had OCD and it just made him weird in a bit different way when he took his pills. What we need is treatment for these people. Its easy to give them a pill and say "take it like this" instead of having a real treatment, sit with them down and help them to deal with it without pills. It is longer ride and not so quick money for pharma but it helps the people in the long run. It is not addictive, it can't give you suicidal thoughts etc.
Unless the people learn to control it, understand it and accept it, there is no real help for them. Pills are a product, not real help.
P.S. Andrew Sullivan couldn't be more right on Libya and US involvement there, yet the answer from Anne-Marie gave him is usual "US citizen manual crap". I asked one guy about it not so long ago and he said: "but we are Americans, we do not want to live under any oppression, freedom or death!" Ok, its US citizens, did you ask Libyans about it? Or Afghanis? Or Iraqis? Guess not. Hope Hillary won't win.

9:50 - do congresspeople frequently work more than 40 hrs/week? Are they frequently (at least once a week) away from home? If either are correct, I understand this sentiment. If neither are correct, I can't say I agree that this is an equality issue. Millions of Americans live in these conditions and still "take care" of their children adequately with no need for one parent to be permanently stay-at-home. It may be how you feel you should raise children, but to say that it's the only way or the correct way is quite ignorant of how millions, if not billions, of humans live comfortably.
Rob Thomas was just trying to tell Bill that music streaming has given exposure and fans to "underground" bands, which wasnt possible in previous decades. So that's the trade-off for not receiving as much money from album sales

I have been saying this for years and I've been to Istanbul, Adana, and Kayseri, but Turkey is the next Iran at the rate they're going. Don't forget, Iran was like Paris and London 35+ years ago. But now they're an "Islamic Republic" and no longer a secular state. Ataturk made Turkey a secular state and it has done fine but over the last 15-20 years, the Muslim religion is reaching further and further into the government. The current president Erdogen(?) is pushing Turkey into some sort of Islamic fascism. Only a matter of time before it'll be too dangerous for westerners to even visit Istanbul of all places much less eastern Turkiye.

Great to see Sullivan again, but he and Maher really went at it in this show. We're probably not going to see him on Real Time for a while. Definitely looking forward to his book project.

The Iran deal has nothing to do with Nuclear weapons. It is about taking over Iran Banking system and the ability to create their own money. This is about the world wide centralized banking system.
I think the money owed to Iran was actually owed to the previous regime of the Shah, not the current one. No such repayment should have happened.

I cannot see a self-described socialist gaining enough independents to win the general election, and that is a problem given the Republican field. Bill is right, sometimes you have to compromise and go with the "not the worst option" rather than the perfect one. Hillary 2016.
Actually Bernie is beating Republicans in head to head polls right now. Even most independents and Republicans agree with most of his ideas. When polled on specific issues they don't want to cut education, want higher taxes on corporations and the richest Americans, and want to end corporate corruption in the political process. And Bernie really isn't a "socialist" the way the term is generally understood. He is better defined as a social democrat. He doesn't want to abolish capitalism à la Marx or Lenin, but wants to work within the system to create a better safety net and higher standard of living for all Americans, not just the richest among us. His brand of socialism is democratic socialism. He wants to take a page from the Scandinavian countries and the way they provide for everyone in their country in a regulated capitalistic system. Those countries continually have the high standards of living, low poverty and unemployment, high quality education, etc. #FeelTheBern #Bernie2016
Is it just me or did Andrew's whole mood change after Bill's "Enough about your mom!" comment? I don't think Bill meant anything by it, but he was pretty snarky about it. Andrew got quiet for the rest of the show and overtime.

Rob Thomas is completely uneducated concerning the digital streaming issue. Of course a MASSIVE artist like he can not care, however, "working musicians" need a "living wage" as well. Their art holds value and should not be given away, or paid for with peanuts. Paul Williams, the current president of ASCAP, recently wrote an informative piece describing the real problems of digital streaming.

No surprise - the musician on stage has more to say about politics than he does about his own industry. I actually admire Taylor Swift for going after the music industry's business practices, taking the time to understand the problems and take action for change. Definitely admire her more than some airhead who probably spends more time talking about issues he doesn't understand than about an industry he actually works in and can make real change in. You make an 1/8th of cent off Spotify? Well, each stream pays about $.006 cents. Divided that up among everyone involved, you're probably making about $.001 or less. Now picture being an up and coming artist today. Does that seem right? If it doesn't maybe use the influence you have in the music industry to at least try and find a better solution.

Artist need to find innovative ways to make money in this era. Metallica could have been on the forefront by simply demanding Napster make anyone who wanted to download their music go to a page were they could sell ad space, band merchandise, give tour info, and so on. Like Facebook that they could monetize. Fans would have supported them and they would've probably made more money than they are now.

Sullivan was complaining about people ranting and being hysterical, then he started ranting and being hysterical about Clinton. Maher should have challenged him on that, but didn't.
Sullivan is also spot on with the writing comment. I still write after nearly 30 years. But it is mostly for fun.

Maher nailed it with that rehab pitcher. I thought the exact same thing. You have the whole off season to get yourself cleaned up. Did you really hit absolute rock bottom right before the post season? I have known several hard core drunks that are capable of staying sober for a couple days when they really need to do it. I am sure he could have made it through a couple more weeks while continuing to drink. Just be sober and clean on game day, the way I imagine he has done all season.
