Man… as a longtime dodger fan but a 33 year old with no father - seeing Freddie run up to his father Fred, and have that moment with him in celebration, that literally made me shed a tear. My own father was a longtime Dodger fan too but he died a long time ago in 1997 when I was only 6 years old

I was fortunate to have watched and experienced two moments in World Series history: Kirk Gibson's walk-off home run against the Oakland A's in 1988 and yesterday's Freddie Freeman grand slam walk-off home run against the Yankees. Both were down to the last out, both had leg injuries, and both games were at Dodger Stadium in game one. The Dodgers went on to win that series in 1988, I hope that this Dodgers team would do the same. Unbelievable moments in history as a Dodger fan.

Freddie Freeman's walk off homer was an exciting moment, but Kirk Gibson's 1988 walk off home run was more exciting for a few reasons. Kirk Gibson was not supposed to play in that series, due to his knee injury. He was facing the toughest relief pitcher in Dennis Eckersley who rarely allowed a home run during that season. The A's were highly favored to win the World Series. Kirk Gibson had to hit a homerun or walk. Yes there were two outs and the Dodgers were down by one run. Had Freddie Freeman walked, the game would have been tied and if he got a base hit, the Dodgers would have won. Nestor Cortes had not pitched in a month, while coming out of the bullpen very rusty, so the odds were in favor of Freddie Freeman to help win the game after Mookie Bettes was walked intentionally. I felt the Dodgers were destined to win this game. Kirk Gibson's homerun was a one in a million chance, especially since he was sent to pinch hit, while injured and against Dennis Eckersley who was the closer who did not give up home runs. I forgot to mention Kirk Gibson had two strikes against him before that walk off home run. A's were a strike away from winning that game. Freddie Freeman hits a grand slam on the first pitch.
