Yes a Boat Sponsor would be great so anyone out here make it happen as this Channel from John is so educational from How to Fish & where to what to use for different fish to Boating Safety so a boat Sponsor would be perfect and well deserved
Wow! You have opened up another door in my mind with the jigs for porgies. Last year someone one put me on to small circle hooks for them . More creative ways to catch. Thanks
It's so amazing I was fishing in long island with my nephew ! I was catching fish in a pretty big spot...A couple started fishing right on top of my line..Different bait will catch fish...You don't have to stay on top of another person fishing..Lots of room..
Hey John those are nice Big Porgies u catch, I watched another video and these two guys were going wild saying wow we got big Porgies but very tiny compared to yours lol stay safe out there Pal. Great video as always
Hey John. I always enjoy your videos. I wish I lived closer to the ocean. Live in Pa. And usually go out of Barnegat Light NJ couple times a year. I have an 18' Starcraft deep V aluminum boat..... No leaks. But I still have a bilge pump.
his boat is PERFECT for the type of fishing he does. he just got a new motor. what's wrong with the boat? not everything has to be brand new all the time jeeze.
I just finished watching the 5th video in your Fluke Mastery Course (I think it was on fishing in 30'-40' depths). My biggest problem has always been locating fish, & in that video it was kind of like a light bulb went on & I think I finally GOT what you've occasionally hinted at or touched on in some of your free videos about that, HOORAY! There's a lot of information in that course I've yet to cover, but it's got me excited about hitting the water. Thank you so much! In THIS video, You said that if you didn't find any porgy along the contour line that you'd "try something else", can you give us some tips on what else to look for to find porgy? .
I would have moved off deeper. I was in about 30' here, and I know the partyboats often fish in 40-60' in this area. I'm very happy you're enjoying the online course!
Awesome video's. I've viewed a large portion of your production's and have learned allot. I'm in coastal NC and hope to find some fluke/flounder "honey holes" in my region. I'm rigging your set-up and hoping for better results.
What sized hook is on your jigs, and are you just dragging the jig along the bottom? Lightly bouncing it, or just above it? Thank you and great video as always.
Need your advice John!! Seems I can't target seabass while porgies are hitting the bait (except accidently) is there any trick to target seabass among thousands of hungry porgies?
If they still have a late season double limit trips on the Montauk party I’d rather do that no boat cleaning great action and you’re right too many to clean so only take what you’ll use for couple of days trust me you’ll get sick of porgie sandwiches,me I eat fluke since flounder don’t exist and bass=pcbs.
Mr. Skinner; I would love to order some of these jigs but the minim for free shipping at J+H is a little crazy. Wondering if you might be able to suggest something for new customers to try your products to increase sales?
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Thanks man. I don't have a boat but have started catching a lot of the porgy from piers in Long Island Sound (CT side) and was never sure. You are the bucktail master.
@Skinner I'm 24 and love fishing I've been a surfcaster for a couple years now but I want to pick up a aluminium boat for porgy and fluke in the bays what size boat would I need for 2-3 people to fish somewhat comfortably and also what size (hp) motor would I need to get around the bays of Long Island? Also how much money would I need to save to get a roundabout for a boat motor trailer and fish finder if you were able to guesstimate a number?
UnitedGMV Start looking at 18 to 20 center console, 5,000 should be a boat in decent shape. Lots of extra cost like reg., insurance, anchor, coast guard required equipment.
Aaron Davis I really don't want a bigger boat I'm just looking for something to get out on the bays with once or twice a month since I work so much and I don't think I could afford 5gs at the moment I was thinking of just a 14ft aluminium boat with a 10-15hp motor
Plenty of 14 to 16 foot aluminum boats out there that will fit your bill. 14 will work; 16 with a 25 to 40 hp will be a bit more comfortable on those 3 person days.
UnitedGMV I understand. EBay and boattrader.com is a good start. It will at least give you an idea what's available. This time of year there is people moving up or getting out
Hello John, as always you have great videos. I have a question about this boat. I do know you had to let it go and get crushed due to rot and rust holes, but my question is how was this boat converted into a semi-fiberglass boat with a center console. I have a 14ft aluminum boat and I'm thinking about how to take out the middle row and adding a center console without altering the structure integrity of the boat. Is this possible and do you have a shop you can recommend I go and talk to about doing such. Thanks
Yes! That was the thing I told my wife I'd miss most about Wading River. Now I've got another trustworthy greek fisherman mechanic, and he's in walking distance of my house! All is good!
Mr Skinner how are you? My name is Craig, and I was looking at your video about porgy fishing, I'm from Springfield Massachusetts and I'd like to know how would I be able to get corgis here in in Asheville North Carolina. That's one of my favorite fish to eat. Next to a croaker
I’ve only been on party boat fishing and they usually recommend 6-10oz sinkers even if we are fishing in shallow waters, so I’m confused... what is the rule in rod, test line, and sinkers? Can I use light tackle? How do they have to pair up? (Sinker vs line vs rod vs reel). I e heard you say something about having 15lbs line for 1oz jigs... why?
John could you tell us about the boat,, I love the console thing if and when that is the choice I will make I assume they cost more for that feature but I would appreciate any and all guidance in learning about the specs of the boat the motor, how you trailer it etc thank you Jeff
It's a very customized 1974 starcraft, maybe a holiday model. Someone else converted it to a center console. It suits me pretty well. It has the room of a bigger boat for sure. Not that I don't clutter it up anyway.
When I fish for porgies I just use a paternoster rig with clams or porgies, I only use jigs tipped with squid or clams when I’m fishing for Black Sea bass
Good evening John I would like place to fish porgy form the surf if you can I will really be really thankful for you help will like to take the family for some fun thanks for your help
The trips where you put it all together with trial and error are the best. Really nice
What type of boat are you on and how much it costs

Seriously if you watched beginning of vid he did throw it out there. Boat sponsor that is.
i love it when a plan comes together . gotta watch those spines. nice job!
Nice looking Porgys. I can't wait to go Porgy fishing.
That under water Video was great
Nice action. The big ones sure have moved in this past week or so. we pulled up a couple 17 inchers on bucktail and gulp while targeting fluke.
Awesome video, awesome technique!
Great video. Can you please do a video of your boat and what kind of boat you would suggest for fishing new york sound and bays?

I've had a lot of good feedback with the technique from NC. Good luck!
Thanks for manufacturing your buck tail's in the USA. I love to support our domestic economy. I placed my order earlier today at J and H.
Hi John, I ordered 3oz porgy/blackfish jigs! I fish a lot on party boats ,will they be ok for inshore ocean spots on a party boat?
This is honestly my dream boat. Perfect size. When your ready to get rid of her John keep me in mind!!
Salt water master!!!💯💪👊LET'S GO!!! A1!💯

Such a good video!
Great Video! do you have any good/preferred porgy recipes?
As always grwat video Mr.Skinner! So is a porgy and a scup the same fish?
Yes
Man that was a nice catch one after another great job
The BG is a great reel. I run the 2500 also for walleyes.
Hey John thanks for the video...i liked the killie trap chum technique...will be trying that someday.
Need your advice John!! Seems I can't target seabass while porgies are hitting the bait (except accidently) is there any trick to target seabass among thousands of hungry porgies?
Use a lure like a Gulp grub. black sea bass like them, porgies usually don't.
Great content !

Gluvit that boat. From the bottom works. From the bottom and from the inside is better yet. I had an 18ft starcraft for years. Gluvit works well.
Thanks for that tip. I hope to work on it in the offseason.
Mr. Skinner; I would love to order some of these jigs but the minim for free shipping at J+H is a little crazy. Wondering if you might be able to suggest something for new customers to try your products to increase sales?
Maybe you can get a sponsorship (2-3 cans) from the infomercial guys who spray that rubber crud on a screen door then go canoeing on it.
John I just started keeping the fish I catch. How long can you keep them in a cooler ungutted to be safe?? Thanks!
A few hours iced and cold should be fine.

I know this is a old video but were you bleeding these out?
I would have mistaken them for juvenile Orata if i was on the other side of the atlantic ocean. Good tasty fish. Porgy it is ..

John, are you using your Penn reels much these days or did you switch over to Diawa?
No switch. It just happens that my smallest reels, a couple of 2500s, are Daiwa.
I do the same thing...I use my Penn tackle a lot but I also use Diawa and Shimano...It really depends where I`m fishing and what I`m fishing for.
Lmao, your comment about the cooler in the last video is so much funnier now!
You didn’t bleed the porgies. Is it because it doesn’t make a difference in its flavor?
I should have bled them.
Was just fishing those waters today, went off the Angler Fleet im sure your familiar. Brought home a nice porgy and cooked him up.
Glad to see you using Daiwa reels!! Curious how you feel they compare to the lighter weight Penn reels you used.
Sweet boat! What is it??

I did not do the conversion. That's way out of my skill set. I would definitely worry about the structural integrity of removing the middle seat.
@John Skinner Fishing thank you.
What chum cage do you use and where do you get it? I looked on J&H app. But didn’t see it.
I did another video that lists the chum pot in the description. th-cam.com/video/vgDJCXo-zNA/w-d-xo.html
Thank You, I love your videos! They’re so helpful and educational!
The Bg reels are awesome I got 3 of them. For the price there insane.
hi john I love the underwater camera! did you find a new auto shop? I used to do all your repairs over at d and s not perry its dave

good that's great! and living out east is will I think better then wading river your vids are great you nail those fish!
excellent video, thanks!
Man I would love to have two of those baked in the oven with some potato slices, onions, lemons and tomatoes.
amazing how even tho peconic bay is my backyard it's hard to tell where he is-my guess is near jessups neck
Never would have guessed in a million years you were sponsered by J&H, LOL!!! Btw, why the sudden interest in Diawa reels? Are they a new sponser?
My smallest reels are Daiwas, so that's what I'm using at the moment. Nice reels for sure.
When will you show weak fish from Peconic bay
Love this!
They taste even better if you bleed them by cutting downward after placing the knife in the gill slit

No. Not on appropriate jigging tackle. We had a blast on big blacks last fall on these. th-cam.com/video/CeLmCewV5rQ/w-d-xo.html

The thin braided line allows you to fish much lighter payloads, which allows for much lighter and more enjoyable tackle.
Porgies are tasty. However, I hate dealing with the bones.
Hi John does this bay produce blackfish as well? I have only fished there for porgies. thanks
I have not caught blackfish there.

Nice video. Do you ever take your subcribers fishing?
i dont beleve you said you beleve the reports from the head boats, should have been here yesterday
Is it possible to jig from a jetty to catch porgie
Absolutely! I catch them from the shore with this rig.
Those porgys are larger than wells river fish.
Niice work on the scup... I'll take 10, give 4 to the in-laws and keep 6.. 😎🤙🏽🎣
I know what you mean. I kept 9, gave 2 to someone at the ramp whose motor didn't start.
What does he put on the jig
squid
3/4 ounce what? Sinker?
