Thank you for everything, Coach. I have many great memories that are tied to you, and even directly enabled by you. And you were always kind, interesting, and fun. God Bless you.
How can anyone dislike this man.?.?.? Great Coach...At one time I wanna say he was like 33-3 and the 3 losses were to the canes who had their #... I'm an ND fan but nothing but respect for Coach Switzer,,,and Coach Osborne but I'd rather hang out with Barry.
If it had not been for those freaks-of-nature in south Florida (practically an NFL team, it seemed like), Barry would have been considered on par with Bud Wilkinson's all-time 50-some-game winning streak.
Anyone notice he chomps his teeth together? He has always done it I believe....grew up a UT fan, Earl Campbell era....but love hearing Barry tell stories.
Had Switzer enforced a code of good conduct at OU, he would have been a top five team for another twenty years. I remember when the end was near and they had to suspend all of those players in '88, Danny Ford jumping right on them while they were down.
Most all of his head coaching peers at the time were white - and apperantly his unique talent was being a super-hero in recruiting BLACK players. He grew up around black people. Heck, his dad was even murdered by his dad's black girlfriend (just as an example - not trying to be racist or anything). Had the highest winning percentage of any D1 college football head coach for many years. FOUR rings as head coach....3 in college, 1 in NFL. That's the most ever (for having one in each league). I'm counting the one with the Cowboys....uh, not the cross-state Cowboys, but the GOOD Cowboys - hehe. Sorry, OK State fans, I couldn't resist.
One of the best sales man in NCAA history!!
So lucky to be born in 63 and get to experience oklahoma at its absolute best...it was truly amazing !!!

Who’s the guy with the mustache on the thumbnail? I always see him on the sidelines with Switzer in old pictures
I think switzer is one of the best recruiters at ou. He was one of the first coach that recruited the black athlete.
Actually Bud Wilkinson recruited Prentice Ghott to go to OU in the 50s.
He has aged well. He was 80 right here.
