A well known RV certified tech said if you put bug guards on your furnace vents it voids the warranty.What is your opinion on this?

The "patch" on the roof is more than likely the chase duct that Grand Design incorporates on their newer units. The chase is to run any wires to the roof for solar or Wifi antennas ect.

The problem isn't just the use of the wrong screws for the job. If the screws are rusty it means that moisture is getting to the screws. If every screw had a dab of adhesive caulk and they used a better insert trim which has a groove on the edges, and does a much better job of keeping the moisture out, these things would last far longer. But, the manufacturers won't spend an extra penny to make that happen. Their montra is "Get em built, get em out, get em sold!"

Just another Grand Disaster. They have been going down in quality since Winnebago bought them out.

Who told anybody here that expensive rvs are made with quality? Was it the same person that told you inexpensive rvs are “lesser quality”? Having lived in a rv for 6 years I’ve accepted they’re basically made of stiff cardboard and whatever scraps some shop had lying around. Random bits of steel/aluminum/wood… I took out the u shaped dinette on mine so I could fit a larger couch in the “living room” and half the pieces of wood that were making the dinette benches, were either split or odd sized because they were clearly offcuts and were not even square. The rv was 2 yrs old, bought new from the dealer. When I first bought it I had to go and get a bunch of stuff fixed before it even left the lot, not to mention the crap that broke/damaged over the 6 yrs I lived in it, that really shouldn’t…I had to fix those myself. And it took me a year to figure it out because I never really paid attention..the accent wall where the tv goes was installed upside down. It’s got a print of rocks like a rock wall, almost brick shaped. But the shadows all go up instead of down - can’t fix it without taking the whole wall apart tho….o well Good job Forest River 🤦‍♂️

i have dismantled quit a few trailers of different brands and almost all the trailers were just tacked together you could just hammer most of the welds apart quite easily

How long should someone expect this sealant to last before requiring a reseal? Can it be coated over with any products to extend its service life?

Curious, how many tubes of that caulking have you used for that unit?

The problem with using silicone is that you have to remove every last bit of it before redoing it.

I just did mine yesterday. Definitely a powered caulk gun if I were doing this as a job.

You guys are the best. What is the actual fix? My dealer is useless and grand design is giving me the run around. Haven’t had good luck with rv repair shops here in central Indiana. Please post a video of how the actual repair is made.

The welds have very little to no penetration. This defect that made it out the factory door indicates that the manufacturer has NO QC. They do not have a "Quality Control" inspector or inspectors. Which is very telling of the low quality of the product that you purchased.

Wouldn't happen if we could stop building RVs the way the model T was built and start building them to weigh modern cars or today

At this point, I would say, anoid ALL rv's period.

I'm not a weldor. But I know structural members need to be fully welded on at least 3 sides.

Avoid GD at all cost!

I would suggest Grand Design & Winnebago Both send a Rep to your Shop and watch you make repairs Maybe they would learn ah little more about the Crap they’re sending out 😎🍻

Looks like the roof has been "balooning" as well based on all the wrinkles in the material up front.

Why wouldn't the manufacturer used powder coat screws throughout?

This is exactly the reason we walk our roof after every single travel day! You never know what you’ll find!

My RV has those white plastic strippings that go along the edge of the cabin. Can I just caulk over it instead of buying new strippings?

Every rig needs maintenance. This is a sign of lack of. No matter the brand.

That wall panel looks like it’s loose from that aluminum frame as well. They just keep building them cheaper and cheaper every year.

There built like crap and its getting worst not better.. only thing that has gone up is the cost not the quality

Anything that moves, will eventually fail, especially on RVs. I have a travel trailer with no slides. I once came across a trailer where the slide out was stuck in the open position. The woman who owned it obviously didn't know what to do. I also once saw a travel trailer being towed on a freeway with the slide out still out being held up by ropes!

Sorry for being picky but I wish the person running the camera would point it at the subject instead of the talkers face. Great show tho.

Grand Design is garbage. Having similar issues on our unit.

Yet another example of the manufacturer slapping together their RV so it looks fine on the outside but harbors deficient manufacturing processes. Thanks for exposing the problems. It appears this manufacturer has gravitated to quantity over quality based on the number of social media threads about their products.

Thats exactly how that happens. The fluttering tears it like foil. On our new unit I had a spot where it just started so I added braces to stop it from continuing.

Caught it just in time. Do you think the mismatched screws were from when someone sprayed the front with bed liner? I don't recall them coming like that from the factory.
