  • @hashishash1

    This is a great cheap car if you want something really fast, though it does take some practice to control as is twitchy on the steering. A wide large turning circle is not an issue on something so fast.

  • @Disinterested1

    adjustable front links help with steering a little if you straighten the tow , alloy chassis and oil in the shocks help too as for the esc well I got a 320a one on ebay for £5 a mini servo at the same money and changed the radio out for an old ftx set I had ....... I also changed the shaft ends to allow 12mm hex and run road tyres on alloys :):)
    oh and almost forgot replace the 2 pins in the 979a model steering links with nut and bolt (drill through chassis and spine plate ) saves a hunt after a heavy roll :)

    I'm new to RC cars so I have that problem. Another problem I have is when I put my A979b back together the differential assemblies appear to be in disagreement with each other. I found this out after applying just a little juice to the throttle the car wanted to twist onto itself! Didn't break anything yet but ran out of time for the day.
    Is the cause of this from me putting one of the differentials in the wrong way?

    I have a few of these 1/18 wl toys. First good upgrade is adjustable suspension/steering links to fix toe or camber issues (about $10). You don't need to replace all, just a few to fix issues. Next is replace metal bushings in wheel hubs with ball bearings for smoother driving (about $6). Remote tip...all the wl toys 1/18, 1/24 and 1/28 scale use same remote and work with each other.

  • @MultiWirth
    @MultiWirth 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I haven´t had any issues with the remote with WLToys cars but the steering mechanism is really bad!
    I´ve got the "normal" version and have put some metal parts onto it but didn´t improve the steering to go straight.
    But i´m still happy since it was so cheap and it just looks cool in my collection.

  • @lui8104
    @lui8104 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    on my A979b the steering angle is much narrower than yours; the remote controller works perfectly and never loses the signal.
    The flexible chassis and the front wheels not firmly fixed are indeed real problems but can be solved with metal upgrades of chassis and steering arms.
    You didn't mention the battery autonomy which is quite low but I solved the problem by connecting in parallel the 2 batteries supplied (one above the other) through a parallel deans adapter so that I have same voltage and double amperage (1500+1500) the belt is enough to secure both; or you can also install a 2100/2200mah battery which can fit in the car.

      In fact you can upgrade the whole car to alloy or carbon for about $100 AUD..

      hybrid32494 dude it’s more slop than the chassis I installed an aluminium frame and it changed nothing. Stop it do more research man cause your assumptions are just way off. And not only the slop but the servo is probably not that strong come on it’s only 80 bucks. Look I own the HPI RS4 and it’s chassis is solid as a rock and it still steers like 💩. So you are way off on what you are blaming for the bad steering. Way more issues than just the chassis.

    "Nickel metal HYDRIDE".... "hydroxide" is a different chemical!!💥💯🤪 Great review👍I have the a959b, and the flex is just RIDICULOUS! The steering's all over the place, I tighten re-tighten, wheels fall off on some runs, the diff cups have been flying out, the radio glitches!! Yup for $70 or whatever dollars, I paid $70 for mine, they give you a "taste" of what REAL MONEY $150+ dollar cars, brushless etc feel like. So....if you have the money to graduate from this level, Kool👍!, If NOT.....then... just be happy with what you've got going on with your WL Toys upgrades! The infamous a959, a979 chassis!!🙈

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello!! thanks for watching!! The steering angle is poor at any speed, but really noticeable at low speed. You can lower the steering dual rate, but the max steering throw is still very short.

    • @RobertNES816
      @RobertNES816 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The steering angle is poor because the design is poor. The suspension is too narrow to allow for any real steering movement. This combined with a short wheelbase and lots of chassis flex makes for an unstable platform. Years ago (about 16 years ago) Team Losi used to make a 1/18th scale RWD Stadium truck with a low turn 380 sized motor. With much smaller wheels then this A979 but properly designed and scaled down chassis and suspension those little Losi trucks had no issues being stable at speed (they could reach about 30mph), the only issue was any bump they hit became and issue due to the small scale. These chinese models are cool and all, but they're still full of design flaws. They're made with cheap materials and the engineering and labor that goes into these RC's is very limited. I mean how much would you care if you weren't even getting paid enough to have a pot to piss in?

      yes, totally agree. Did you see that turning radius, WTF is that. How come nobody has mentioned this issue in any other video on this RC.

    Dude are you kidding me. In 2018 and obviously owning more than one RC, you don’t know enough to turn on your radio first and then your ESC? That’s why it’s going into full throttle man, come on get it together. It even says to turn on in that order on the manual. Remember transmitter first and then ESC. And to turn off you do it in reverse, turn off ESC then the transmitter. Good luck man you need it

      mike sipes Good point, i should have started taking my own advice wen i made this video about a year ago. Ive still got this wltoys and now it has a 5200kv btushless system in it. Now my resources are devoted to nitro and gas rcs. Lol.

      some of the WL toys, mainly the 390 motor size ones came with the LI-ION pack, but the better 540 style ones came with the 2S lipo. I might have made a speaking mistake when I said that part, but either way, WL TOYS IS DEAD on this channel, so lets move on......

    Thanks for this. Looks like I'll be skipping these small chinese RC's all together. I'll just buy name brand RC products and pay more. I beat the shit out of my Traxxas stuff and even my cheapest XL5 Bandit for $159 doesn't give me any issues.

      hey man!! thanks for watching!! These are not bad for the money, they are just so cheap and do ok for the most part. Just don't try to spend too much on upgrades and you will be fine. If you get the buggy version of this, you will be quite happy. It drives a little better and seems higher than this one.

    You must have received a faulty RC right out of the box dude because I purchased mine from Amazon for$ 80 and I don't experience none of these problems that you're having
    Banggood sells very crappy cheaply made RC that's constantly having problems I purchase one RC from them a while back and I would never buy another RC from them again!
