I was in the company featured in this video (x194) and I can tell you right now this video makes it look like a cake walk. Had prior marine, army, and air force in my company and they all said it was as tough as any other bootcamp (army said it was harder). The marine said it wasn't as physically challenging as the marines but fucked him up mentally. I saw grown men break down and quit week 3. They train us to save lives under extreme pressure and bad conditions not to blow shit up. Trust me, if you need saving, this is the branch you'll want coming for you and I'm damn proud to be part of it.

Coast Guard boot is no joke. They said in this video that 1 in 5 don't make it through but it seems higher than that. I actually failed the swim and even drowned trying to pass. I got a medical discharge but was "eligible to reenlist" so I went home, got my mind right (it's a huge blow to your self-confidence failing at something like this) trained hard, ran, swim, exercised, got into better shape, then went back, this time to the Navy boot camp because the Coast Guard didn't have any open billets for the MOS I wanted. But I passed everything and graduated. That was the best day of my life. You never forget that feeling of accomplishment.

This video is pretty good but anyone who has ever been through any basic training in any branch of military ever knows that boot camp is something that can only be understood by those who have gone through it. Every branch's boot camp is going to be catered to the mission of the branch so they are all going to be different. It really doesn't matter which one is harder than the other. The thing most people who talk trash about the CG not being DOD fail to understand is the CG's unique federal law enforcement mission and how it is affected by the Posse Comitatus Act. The law prevents the government from using the military to enforce domestic laws, but with the CG not being DOD they can work around that.

AH, REMINDS ME OF MY TRAINING WHEN I JOINED THE U.S.C.G! I graduated high school in 1994. A few weeks before I did, I was sweet-talked into signing up to join the Coast Guard.
I, bring 18 years old, and knowing everything assumed the training would be a breeze. After all, the Coast Guard isn't like the real military, right? WRONG!!! I learned in my first 5 minutes after arriving in Cape May that those Company Commanders are just as brutal as the Army or Navy! No, they didn't actually assault me, but they gave a through tongue lashing.
The training was exhausting, it was exasperating, it was relentless, and it was relentless. I began thinking "Oh s***, what have I gotten myself into? Am I really stuck here for the next four years?!
    I was.
The training is designed too tear you down, and then rebuild you.
I was ripped, torn, and beaten down, and then I was rebuilt, overhauled, and made into a man!
I served my time, and then went to college (thanks to the G.I. Bill), and am today an architect.

How soon people forget that during war time the USCG becomes part of the U.S. Navy. Many CG personnel served in Vietnam during that war. The CG also chases drug and human smugglers. I bet CG sharpshooters can match any sharpshooter in the other services.

Like every service branch, they are expected to do more and more every year, often times with the same or less material and financial support, to accomplish thier stated mission objectives. And yet they perform their jobs with the highest commitment to excellence and professionalism. A salute from a U.S. Submarine Service "boomer boat" veteran.

We were tough our deck force loved action on the sea and on liberty Some spent time in the marine brig till we shipped out When someone says shallow water sailors I tell them I received five ribbons one from the united nations citation to a medal from the governor of my state for dedication and bravery I returned to an enlistment office in my home town I told it just like it was I also told them that I served on a tin can and two aircraft carriers before I enlisted This was the service for me

Slurpey I can't speak for everyone but as for myself I only talk crap about "Coasties" when they try to convince me that they are in the military. I know that times have changed since I was in the Navy. When I served there was no Homeland Security yet. The Coast guard was part of the Department of Transportation unless during time of war. The Coast Guard does some amazing stuff no doubt. That still doesn't make them part of the military. If the Coast Guard becomes a part of the DoD and the 5th branch of the military I have zero problems with it. Until then just be proud of your service for what it is. It's sad when people can't be proud of there professional career. Think about how sad and pathetic it looks when a cop pretends like they are like an FBI agent or SWAT is somehow Special Forces. They might have the same gear but they aren't the same thing. Can you see what I mean? As for saving lives, ALL branches of the military save lives. That's the whole point of the military. We serve and protect our constitutional way of life. Some missions involve taking life while others involved shielding life. They are both equally important to securing our freedoms. The Coast Guard does the life saving, shore patrol thing very well. That's great and all but I'm not going to say that saving lives is more important than taking lives. That's just silly, juvenile, romanticism of what the "Coasties" core mission is versus the military core mission. Anyway, believe it or not as a Navy veteran I wish everyone in the Coast Guard the best. I hope that one day the Coast Guard can share the pride of being in the military and our good natured inter-service rivalries. Truth is we need Puddle Pirates as much as we need Jarheads. In the end the trash talk doesn't matter one bit because I would give my life for the sailor, soldier or marine standing the line with me. End of story! Have a nice day!

Im just a poolie leaving for bootcamp in MCRD on the 23rd but from my perspective any service seems honorable. Think about all the people who are too afraid, lazy or incompetent to even learn about a branch service. Be proud of what you've accomplished. But be more prideful of what you become.

I wouldn't talk too much smack there, I think the Coast Guard has probably seen more amphibious landings than the Marines have.

My Cape May excursion took place in the fall of 1978. Charlie Company. We never had cake. BTW, the US Coast Guard still owes me a dress uniform jacket. They did not have enough to supply the incoming recruits at that time. I had to buy one off another recruit in my company. I am glad to see how times have changed and the fleet is fully funded and supplied. Semper Paratus.

Insert uneducated other military branch comments trash talking the Coast Guard here. Acting like we’re not on the same side lol I’ve never understood that. P-190!

I always find it odd those that cannot jab back amd fourth and get butt hurt. Does it make you feel inferior when they talk trash or like you need to defend the USCG training. What is it about those few navy,af, and uscg guys that get so butthurt when army or usmc talks shit them? Just talk shit back it will be much funner.

It's not so much the shit talking as it is who is doing it and where. I have trained with Marines and Navy personnel and yes we talk a little shit back and forth, but it is usually done with a smile on our faces and to someone we know. You don't walk up to a random stranger and just start spewing out shit and not expect an equally negative response. Now onto the "where", TH-cam is FULL of dipshits who couldn't make it in any branch basic training and yet they talk shit behind an anonymous username. The few military personnel who talk a little smack on here usually throw in something at the end to let us know that they are just playing and it's all good.

My congratulations to the Coast Guard sailor who boarded and rode the narco’s mini sub like a boss this week.
I’m sure they don’t teach that at their training.
The sub stopped, the crew arrested and over 17 thousand pounds of cocaine were confiscated.
    Well done!!
