We have the Large Toppl as well, unfortunately the smaller Toppl used to lock the large closed, he was able to chew right threw. Hoping to find more latex free toys for aggressive chewers for the holiday season.

    I don't actually have a puppy yet. I had a cavalier King Charles for ten and a half years but she had to be put to sleep in June.
    I'm watching your videos because I'm on the waiting list for a very reputable breeder here in Ireland for a Cavalier King Charles. I am hoping to have a puppy in January.

She told me a few days ago that two of her dogs might be pregnant and if they are they will be due around the middle of next month. So if all goes well I will hopefully have a puppy in the middle of January.
      Saying that I have been buying things for the puppy already. I have about 16 toys already , a lead , a collar , a playpen , and a nice crate.

      @@HowToTrainADreamDog I'll be after forgetting something and panic I know it 😂. But I'm trying to be as prepared as I can. But January is a long way away.
      Since I lost my dog the days seem to have slowed to a crawl. I do hope I'll get a phone call in a few weeks to say my puppy is born tough. I'm not even a little bit excited yet though. She was hoping one of her girls was pregnant and was due a few weeks ago and it didn't happen so I won't get my hopes up this time so that I won't be as dissapointed if there's no puppies born. I will be disappointed if there's no puppies born but it won't be as bad if keep telling myself it's not going to happen.
      But if I do get the phone call I'll give her a Christmas present of paying €50 towards her dog food. I know the owner of the pet shop she gets her food from so I'll pay him Christmas week to help her out.
      She told me she has 10 dogs and three of them are breeding females. She goes to another dog owner to breed though. All of the dogs are pets that live in her house with her too and she feeds them raw food but when I get the puppy I'll seen it off raw food slowly. I don't like the idea of feeding a dog raw.
      Also my plan is about a year and a half to two years after getting the puppy to get a second Cavalier king charles. I want to train the first one first and let it calm down from the mental puppy fase before getting a second or they will drive up the walls 😂

    Do we have to introduce the baby foods used to fill the toys slowly, such as when introducing new foods to babies? Or, is it likely puppies will not have issues with allergies to the various fruits, meats, and vegetables you've mentioned?

She also has a green rubber ball with the teeth. I’ll need to remember to fill it with kibble next time. I usually use broken up small milk bones.

    Thanks a lot for all your videos, they have help us to train our puppy and her biting has decreased so much, thanks a lot. Quick question our puppy is barking at us, im not sure if this is for attention or what?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      When it comes to puppy barking, make sure you aren't accidentally rewarding your pup by looking at them or talking to them when they are barking. Do not yell out “quiet” while they are barking. Since puppies don’t understand what the word quiet means, you are actually just giving attention (negative attention still counts for most pups) and reinforcing the bark. You will also teach your pup to either ignore the word quiet because we are overusing it, or that it means to bark, if the timing happens to be just right. Remember puppies don't understand the words we speak until each word is taught to them through a one-to-one association with the behavior we want it to mean.
      During times that your puppy is barking at you for either attention or something they want, take away all forms of attention. This includes eye contact, speaking to them, touching them, etc. Wait until the exact moment your pup stops barking and then say "quiet" while rewarding for quiet behavior. In the beginning, you will capture the quiet behavior as soon as they offer it. Once your pup gets the hang of this, say “quiet” as soon as they stop barking and then wait 2-3 seconds to give the reinforcement. This will help you avoid your puppy chaining the behaviors of “bark, quiet, treat.” Later you can ask for the command "quiet" when your dog barks and they will understand that it means stop barking. Until then, your pup just thinks that you are barking along with him/her or that barking is what you want.

    Hey Michelle, I love your videos and have been watching all of them in preparation for my puppy that's coming home in 2 days. I'm getting a Jack Russell Terrier. Do you think it would be a good breed for a first time dog owner?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jack Russells energetic, and fast learners as they are very smart. Because of this they can be a little challenging for a first time dog owner but if you stay on track with formal training you will learn a lot about what we call the mechanics of training. This means you'll perfect very important things like timing, reinforcement, marker words, body posture etc. Since Jacks are fast its easy to miss mark or reinforce the wrong behaviors and this leads to frustration for both dog and human. I wish you the best with your new pup. Hi Michelle! We do answer these questions in the course, and in the Pro-level, you'll be able to talk with our trainers directly. While there's no exact age (since all pups are different), you can start when your pup comes home as long as it seems like they are doing okay with it! • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do not recall seeing that warning on this toy. As always you should supervise pup as they play with toys. If there was a warning it may be due to the fact that some pups chip teeth easier than others on harder toys. Although the outside is made of a rubber material the treat inside is made to last longer. This is a toy I've given my own pups without a problem but I know not every dog is the same. Always consult with your vet if you are unsure about the safety.

      Have you tried 1-ingredient treats like boiled / dehydrated chicken? You can also turn his regular kibble into mush with hot water or try some pet safe bone broth. Then smear it on a licky mat or in a fillable toy.

    Love your videos. I want to feed my puppy different kinds of food beside dog food. But I'm afraid what they can't eat. Can you make some videos about puppy food? What they can and cannot eat?

    How do you keep the dog busy and let it not be bored?

      These toys keep them busy as well as playing training games, and going for walks.

    Good info. Thank you. Too much of just you talking. Needs more b-roll of the dogs using the toys. This video could have been edited with shots of each dog using the toy while you were talking about it.
