I dont know man, I dont like this guy. 1. He thinks a comp is meant for felt recoil (thats what a brake is for, a comp is for muzzle flip). 2. Feels like he's shitting on this so he can sell the ones his company makes. I'll stick with reviewers that at least appear to have integrity.
Not to mention that SIDE ports do nothing but vent gas. Less gas, less pressure, less effective. And I really wish the "industry people", at least, would get the terminology right. Without an expansion chamber, its just a port or ported gun. BTW, when you're in a stress fire situation you're not going to notice recoil. What you're going to notice is muzzle flip aka, how fast can you get sight back on target.
To clarify, our opinion was that top ports are meant to reduce muzzle flip and side ports are meant to reduce felt recoil. The reason we found this gun "confusing" was because of the fact the non-ported version felt softer and less snappy, even though the numbers didn't support that. We certainly could have been more clear and done a better job using the correct terminology. To address your second point, we do not make a comp for the prodigy and are not planning to. We believe companies like Springfield adding ported options is great. More options for people is always better. A couple weeks ago, we did a similar video comparing ported vs normal versions of the hellcat pro (which we do make a comp for) and recommended the ported version to most people because of its effectiveness to price ratio. So this idea that we are saying negative things about ported guns to sell out own comps is simply untrue. Hopefully this can clarify the points you made, and we have been making sure to be more specific with the terminology we use to talk about recoil in our videos. We appreciate your feedback!
The in hand recoil your describing is most likely not felt recoil. But it’s you feeling an perceiving the slide cycling faster then the other standard prodigy. That faster cycle rate some can describe as a sharper impulse compared to the slower impulse the full slide gives you
@ and that’s not always true… for 2011’s such as the XC they use a light recoil spring and some may describe the slide feeling slow or sluggish, and if they just go up in a recoil spring poundage it fixes it and the gun will snap back to target much quicker
So, this gun won’t be able to get one of your compensators - and you prefer the non-comped prodigy, that you can get a threaded barrel for and use one of your compensators. Got it. Makes sense to me. Btw - The more gas the better for a compensator, and return to zero is the point, and with an 18% less recoil and a faster return to zero (what you call “snappy”) seems like a huge win for Springfield for an $80 price increase. Not gonna lie; this video comes across as a fake review so you can self promote your own compensators. Just my 2 cents.
Gotta admit, I got the same feeling. I think they do this often though -- use other products as a launch pad to promote their own goods. Pretty savvy when you think about it. 😛
clear, uncomplicated explanation of the perceived, versus measured, “recoil” on the prodigy comp; grateful for the time, energy, and effort…well done young man
These factory "comps" like the Prodigy and the M&P Carry Comp just don't really move the needle enough performance-wise to be worth it. But they are cool.
Chunk ported barrel /comp in barrel is More for a cool factor and looks , not much performance gain.. slightly less muzzle rise is however a positive.. felt recoil and muzzle rise are not the same.. his ransom rest measurement was muzzle rise degrees not "recoil" ,,,?
This is why I'll probably end up getting the LFA Apollo 11 Compact & having it ported to match the slide cuts on either side of the front of the slide. A good gunsmith can probably cut a V2 or V4 porting on the barrel to match those slide cuts.
My 4.25 comp runs great, fells great and no issues on the range. It’s an entry to the DS category and for those who don’t want to pay over $2000 for a pistol. This review seems heavy handed and biased since it doesn’t need an aftermarket comp added.
Interesting concept of in the hand felt recoil…not sure how this differs from the 18% reduction in felt recoil. I shot both side-by-side… The ported version definitely offers a big reduction in recoil / in the hand recoil / recoil labeled something else other than recoil 😂
I believe you’re on to something, same thing happened to Daniel Defenses H9 many people complained of the in hand recoil so I don’t vote this as biased I vote this as the shock is now centered to your hand which may be uncomfortable to many others who have used other style comps
What do you think would have been the results if they would have chopped the barrel off at the port similar to the way Sig does their compensated P365's ?
I don't know what your talking about that compensator can't increase some suggestive "recoil" you're speaking about. Could it be because your company makes compensators?
If springfield is looking for suggestions to expand their prodigy line, and charge more than they do for the standard models, my vote is for a pistol with a better finish on the slide and barrel, like dlc or nitride.
Idk man i have both versions of the prodigy and the comp makes a huge difference. My wife hated the non comp version, she loves the new one so that says something. The Comp version doesnt have any muzzle rise at all.
You’d have to shoot it in open class but open guns are the Guccist of competition shooting meaning you’re not going to run a 1600 dollar vs a on the low end 4K gun with all the bells and whistles.,
@@quincymcneeley8950this is why I was asking the poster. People always talk about 9 minor guns being used in competition, but I don’t think they realize you would be forced into open with this gun where every one else in the division makes major PF.
Mixed bag on this one sounds like a bit of hater is coming out! I’ve shot that gun for 1600 she shoots flat AF. But I also shot competition and see no need to run it in one class. On any gun grip and trigger run things not sure what he’s complaining about? If that grip is moving around at all that’s a you problem chief!!!! Especially on a ported 2011, hell the regular prodigy reduces recoil because of it’s weight.
Just my 2 cents. Felt recoil, muzzle rise, recoil impulse can all be controlled VERY well with proper grip and stance especially when shooting out of the isosceles. 9mm does not have ANY recoil in a full size gun like 2011 or Glock 17 etc. Spend your money on what feels good in your hand and ammo. Then join your local USPSA, IPSC, IDPA club and shoot! Also learn how to reload your on BB`s so you can shoot 500 to 1000 rds a week easy. Your skill set will increase faster than you can imagine. You can thank me later.

A muzzle break will reduce recoil. A comp will reduce muzzle rise.
This.
a real compensator will reduce recoil, and muzzle flip. this thing is only a port, it only works on muzzle flip.

His ransom rest test did not measure recoil.. it measured the degree of muzzle rise only..
Have you change the recoils spring on the comp?or are you running factory ? How many lbs? Thanks.
Thank you for this information video! I had been wondering about the possibility of the comp's impulse which you mentioned.

The base Prodigy is already super flat. I have considered porting, and I know it can delete recoil, but I don't feel like I need it.
V8, V10 or V12 porting a base Prodigy yields better results than this model.. number of V ports is depending on barrel length .
