I totally agree with ya best worst ending EVER...of ALL time. Going through another play through of CP2077 (my 6th since release) and now every time I hear "I Really Want to Stay at Your House" by Rosa Walton & Hallie Coggins and David's song "Whos Ready For Tomorrow" by Rat Boy & IBDY I start getting misty eyed.

Aldecaldos is probably the best one you'll get.
The genre is bleak; everything is sold and nothing is sacred. All stories end darkly bitter sweet AT BEST or as tragedies (i.e. terrible cautionary tales). Almost lovecraftian.
Hence why the joy of success is fleeting. The heroes are all dead (or about to be). And the bad guys are more pissed than vanquished 9 times out of 10.
But there is something romantic about a glorious lost cause.

@@balantor Not that it can't, but that Alt lacked the knowledge of any possible treatments. That's why I love the endings in Cyberpunk 2077. They're just vague enough that anything could happen afterwards. It's up to your own personal head canon on whether or not V finds a cure.
A happy ending is subjective. Some people would be truly happy dying in a battle against there system, not even because they thought they made a difference, just the personal pride of knowing you had the balls to fight in the first place
Such a sad ending. David got his dream. He sent Lucy to the moon. But David failed to realize Lucys dream changed. She wanted to be with him now. Not on the moon.
@LilLowes Don't forget that by going to Rebecca and then with Lucy and just sitting around doing jack shit for a long time, he basically is the reason she died. Because he lured Adam Smasher directly on top of them, lol.

She wanted to go to the moon because it was the safest place to her, but then David became her "safe place". HE was her moon.
@@cannedsquasher5923 You fail to realize he was slipping in and out of psychosis not knowing where he is. Lucy’s kiss didn’t change that. It just brought him back slightly and his meds ran out. So he was in serious pain, mentally not there, and exhausted from fighting two large corps before even going at it with Smasher, plus he knew he was gonna die and wanted to leave one last message. And they were dead regardless if David didn’t come, they were surrounded by max tac and Arasaka isn’t going to let them live. Also, David was shot as well so he was bleeding out while slipping in and out of psychosis so, cut him some slack bro.

If you go to the bar Afterlife in the game you can buy a drink called David Martinez. Showing that he truly became a legend in Night City.
The only part that sucks about that is they use NiCola...and David hated carbonated drinks. At least he's up there with Silverhand as one of the few who took it to Arasakas's doorstep and kicked it in. He ain't Morgan Blackhand, but he did give it a go against Smasher. Props for that.

I don't think he went against Smasher since he got completley clownd on at full power while a dying V can beat him singel handedly.

@@ScorpionViper1001 We might like Rebecca, but regarding the city itself. She was literally nobody. David did everything which is why he got the drink after him. He took on a massive amount of Militech soldiers, killed a bunch of MaxTax, stormed into Arasaka HQ and raised hell, while "fighting" and dying to Adam Smasher another urban legend.
Rebecca just went with David, and shot a couple shots at Adam Smasher (which did literally nothing) before being promptly Goomba stomped by him. They can't make a drink after every single person who fought Arasaka and died in the process, as that alone would qualify a lot of people. You gotta be a legend first.

I honestly hope they can add in DLC in Cyberpunk 2077 where you can be a character with motives to avenge Becca and David. I want their names to be the last thing Adam Smasher hears before I flatline that borged-out gonk with a shot through the eye.

@@ScorpionViper1001 to be honest depending of what you pick at the end to go to Arasaka you loose some great characters in the game. In my second run I lost my favorite character and I fried Smasher's brain to death with my V's netrunner built. Just mod the game to fit your revenge needs.
When the show tells you in the opening credits how it's going to end, but you get so sucked in you refuse to believe it, hell of a show.
As a widower this ending hit so fuggin hard! Especially that moment where Lucy hallucinates seeing David on the moon. That shit happens for real after you lose someone that close to you. You start seeing them in places. I cried like a fuggin baby
She went to the moon only to realize she was already happy with David. It breaks you man.
When Becca died i was shook. This show is a great tragedy. I love the cyberpunk genre and this show is unlike any other cyberpunk media. In all other cyberpunk shows/movies/video game, the protagonist are witnesses to the cruelty of the world, they are generally a part of the machine and then grow a conscious or are thrown out for some reason and must survive, in edge runners David was subjected to the cruelty of Night City.

Whatever choom😢 it’s ok David did what he did got to the top of Osaka, lead the crew for main, and got Lucy to the moon no one gets a happy ending in night city but best believe David did for some!

I said i wasn’t gonna cry either. I’m still bawling everytime I hear the song play.
Falco's lowkey the absolute hero of this story. Fulfilled the final wishes of a kid with one foot in the grave and was straight up gonna hand-to-hand Adam Smasher after he murdered Rebecca. That's the kind of reliability you gotta respect.
I've watched this on my own once and several reactions by now. The end still gets me misty-eyed.

becca was the goat. she loved david and wish the best for him even though she knew she couldnt be in the picture she wanted to be in. she officially the girl you always want to be on your side.
Usually I very rarely experience strong emotions from a some anime, but this is one of the few stories the pain of which I felt physically. Subsequently, my brain simply "forgot" that pain. I don't remember how I reacted to the ending, but I only know that it broke something inside of me. Such a damn cruel story. I will definitely come back to this anime after a while to review it again, but for now I need to cool down.
So much pain lol, I feel like this show is just a one and done thing but I really hope we could get another season of this maybe with lucy or a new cast, it was just so good!

Can't have a happy ending to a show that highlights a dystopian world.
Just for Context there is a way to Cure Cyberpsychosis.
Mike Pondsmith, the guy who created Cyberpunk has said that cyberpsychosis can be cured by love.
It's Human connection that helps a person recover from it and love is the strongest form of connection.
That is why David is this resistant, his Love for Lucy litteraly keeps him sane.
It really is a tragic end, David died thinking he helped fulfill Lucy's dream, but her real dream was to be with him. And that may have been possible, if they both chose to run as far away from Night City as they could before everything fell apart. But was that ever gonna happen with David following in Maine's footsteps? Probably not.

Gonna make it worse for you sadly, When Lucys eyes flashed during the Moon BD in episode 2, she was saving a "Virtue" of David on the moon. Basically, thats a Visual overlay she can call up anytime from recorded Memories. Thats what we see in the ending, when she sees David in front of her on the moon. Virtues are only mentioned in the game, so its a subtle reference. Gives ALOT more depth and pain to the ending...
Adam Smasher: Im about to ruin this mans whole career. Also his legend was a drink that was 50% pop wich he hated meaning that even in the afterlife he is taking Ls.

It's so sad BUT SO, SO WELL DONE. Loved the story, characters, visuals, world building (although short), music, everything. I sort of love this ending as a ''bad ending'', you know? Like, as sad as it is, it just sort of makes sense in the universe, and is beautifuly excuted. Need copium.

Every time I watch another reaction to this show, DeVotchKa "How It Ends" plays in my head.
I’m glad you watched this in sub, there’s way too many people that are already watching this dubbed just because it’s based on an American game but last I checked this is still a Japanese animation studio/director so naturally I always go with the original dub
Also I may be biased here but Lucy’s VA Yuuki Aoi is one of my favs and Rebecca is actually Ulti from one piece if you noticed
Yeah subbed still sounds just as great. The thing with japanese dub that always put its ahead is the vocal range, nothing ever sounds forced.
@WhyForge What's the difference between me repeating what they're saying in English to myself and the characters saying it in English? Nothing. The subs literally wrote down the english dialogue, not translated dialogue. What about the people who don't speak English and they're watching with subs in their language? It doesn't matter as long as you understand the characters & the story being told.

I think the problem is, David wasn’t special, he just had a higher tolerance. This caused him to have a false sense that he was special and that he could do more than everyone else and ignore the fact that he was still human

Just finished this anime and wow was it a ride. What a bittersweet ending. Wished it had a couple more episodes to let it all sink in more and develop more. But for what it was, it was frickin awesome!
I have a theory about the ending: Smasher makes a comment about making David into an Engram, there is a chance that David was one of the minds in Mikoshi.
I can say that its been a while since an anime can bring me a vibe like watching cowboy bebop after reaching its end yeah its sad but somehow I had bittersweet feeling maybe because I feel really attach to the character but overall Edgerunner is instant anime classic because the character is so well written
