    The genius of the sketch is that there aren’t any jokes per se or oneliners, it’s all tonality, mannerisms, and subtle absurdity. I love it!

      @James there are a lot of reasons. It's used to minimize victims of abuse and hide abuse. It's a big motivator behind most of the world's prejudice. It's probably caused most of the world's violent deaths if I had to guess. Religious institutions are prime stomping grounds for predators and people use the word "god" to make people do abhorrent things-- one might say "well that's not religion, that's abuse" and my follow-up is "well they sleep in the same bed. I'm keeping my family and loved ones out of that bed altogether. I'm pretty sure my family are mentally capable of dealing with their imminent mortality and still being good people"

    • @religionisapoison2413
      @religionisapoison2413 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @James if you're ever afraid of "god" for not "believing in the right thing" just know god has been so pulverized and manipulated by man in Christianity alone that there are 45,000 denominations of Christianity globally.
      Anyone who tells you to be afraid is only afraid, and gravely confused, themselves

    • @religionisapoison2413
      @religionisapoison2413 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @James yes, atheists can be criminals too. That's because psychology. That's what creates all criminals. Not "evil" and whatever other Boogeyman pitched by religion. See, even talking about criminals it's much more practical to talk from an atheists perspective

      There are three troupes I put kind of in the same league as one another, Kids in the Hall, the Monty Python gang and one that's a bit smaller but equally hysterical, "Mr. Show"...they're kind of the sketch comedy holy trinity for me...and let it be noted, being mentioned in the same breath as Monty Python's Flying Circus, possibly the most lauded avante-comedy show of all time is no small feat, it's like a guitarist being compared or equalled with Jimi Hendrix...
      SCTV was pretty good too at it's best, they had sketches though that were a bit weaker and KITH and Mr. Show and such never really had that, every sketch was just genius...at it's absolute best though SCTV was up there too...oddly, in general I hate sketch comedy too, it takes something truly unique in that genre to pique my interest like these guys

    Something I love about KITH is that I see this at various times in my life and find some new level of it to be funny. For instance, once you've worked in a restaurant or food service of any kind, this takes on satirical overtones you might not have felt before. But the brilliant thing is that it works perfectly well without it being a satire, too. It's unpretentious, accessible from many angles. Smarter and edgier than SNL, esoteric only at times. It's a nice balance.

      There are so many funny elements in close proximity, that it would be difficult for the Kids not to be able to pull the humor out. Kevin McDonald's make-up alone could carry the sketch, but then add the protogé, Bruce's hairstyle, the flowery vests, "I'm new here"... critical mass.

    Called a tray boys…good lord. I was a server in the 80’s and kinda used one to place plates on a table. Never smudged a plate with one of your hoove prints. Loved these shows…truly hilarious. “Idiot boy” still cracks me up.

    I revisit this at least once a year to analyze the data, and make yet another attempt at cracking this problem. It's been nearly 30 years of failure for me, fortunately, I gave up my apron, many years ago... So my inability to solve it ceased to be a professional hazzard.

    This is moden life. Stuff that most people don't give a crap about that is taken way too seriously. Should we have more dipping areas? I find that this happens on Thursdays more than anyday of the week. Blah blah. That's the meaning I get out of it. It's not necessarily the intent of the skit but it seems existential and applicable to many work settings. Especially the 'new' guy's solution to the plate handling. It's funny to me because it is innovative thinking put to work in a small context.

    I like to think this sketch happened because they went to a restaurant and had to wait an unusually long time for their dessert, so while they waited, they came up with a scenario as for what could possibly be causing the delay. It's much funnier than the, "They're chasing the cow/chicken right now" joke I grew up hearing every time our chicken nuggets or burgers were late.

    Shouldn't the dipping areas be on the inside of the plate rather than on the edge? I know that putting them on the edge makes for better presentation. However, putting them on the edge means less room for dipping areas and the omnipresent risk of spillage and a hurried waiter putting their thumb in the dipping area.

      Im sorey, I know I'm just a dish washer, but I must say that while cleaning the dishes, adding more surface area to the plate through expanded dipping areas along the rim adds nearly 30% more time to our cleansing of the dishware.

    This show was really great , I remember when it was on TV.
    Fridays , Saturday night live, SCTV and this show the kids in the hall. I remember these show and they were more edgy than SNL. These shows were great and the writers were very good. Then came Seinfeld and curb your enthusiasm , but now looking back at the kids in the hall it seems they were really ahead of they're time.

    I don't know why, but I still constantly think of this one all the time. I mean, maybe it's because I often make my own dipping areas (no one ever knows what I'm referencing when I call them that) and am always trying to figure out how to properly space them. But yeah, this is probably the one I think about the most frequently.

    I worked in a fancy restaurant for nearly 20 years so I can't resist... I have 6 solutions:
    1. Same portions, use a bigger plate.
    2. If needing to carry 2 plates, use a tray.
    3. Sprinkle the chocolate dusting INSIDE the plate only, and not on the rims.
    4. Lose the dipping areas on the plate altogether (a crime, I'm sure) and instead include a little side of them in a small bowl or something, basically turning the dipping areas into a dipping side bowl. If you need to serve 2 orders of the dessert (two plates and two side dipping bowls), again, use a tray.
    5. Worst case scenario, but it IS a solution... The reverse of Solution #1: Smaller portions of everything. Not ideal for the customer, but would save the wait staff on labor and the restaurant on money.
    6. Burn the restaurant down.
    Love this sketch, one of my favorites!
