Wine Tasting at Spier Wine Estate, Stellenbosch, South Africa

We had a great day at the Spier Wine Estate located in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Despite the COVID 19 woes this year, the farm still bustles with warm spirited staff and a hospitable service. COVID 19 regulations and protocol are strictly followed and sommeliers wear a mask at all times during the tasting.
Wines here are a true delight, especially when paired with a great charcuterie and cheese board! Together, the pairing costs ZAR/ R 50 or USD/ $ 3 per person on average for 6 glasses of wine (including an MCC: South Africa's "champagne" or sparkling wine varietal). The wines are laid out for you 3 tasting glasses at a time. The pairing platter was ZAR/ R 180 or USD/ $ 12 and serves 2 people. We also got a separate slab of dark (65% cacao) chocolate to pair with our red wines. This cost ZAR/ R 60 or USD/ $ 4.
If you are adventurous or just curious to try new things once in a while, the farm has a craft market, eagle encounters and Segway cars for you to take a sunset cruise through the vineyards with! (consult farm for pricing). (We did not do this as yet!)
All in all a warm and comfortable experience! This farm also drives a ton of sustainability initiatives, including recycling, composting, water conservation and community support programmes. It also buys its cheeses and meats from local farms in the area. Love it!
