'When the trumpets of the storm blare', a real autumn hymn for Michaelmas (29th of September) played in the composer’s home church in Gagnef! Lindberg grew up in this parish in Dalarna, Sweden, and learned to play the organ in this very church, however on the previous organ. When the current instrument was built in 1946 it was natural that he, an organ consultant, be chosen to draw the specification of the organ. This 'small partita' is Lindberg’s last organ composition, written to the memory of his brother, the late theologist and organist Gustaf Lindberg, who composed the hymn melody. A few lines from the hymn text: "When the trumpets of the storm blare around pale fields and lands, and gloomy waves surge against deserted skerries and strands, when the scythe of Death shines in the summer bloom, I think of the lot of humankind and its hasteful time. Now the church is gathering for Michaeltide, as Michael against the dragon into great battle shall go. And would the last glow of the Sun burn out, then would the army of darkness not sing of victory. The splendour in the features of Christ’s warriors comes from afar: they sight the wreath of victory and All Saint’s Day."
