Don’t worry, everyone makes that face the first time they hear Angelina perform this song! And yes, she arranged this performance, as she has been doing since she was 7 on Norway’s Got Talent. One of the judges watched her interact with the musicians when she was preparing her songs for the semifinals and finals on the show. He knew from that moment that he was watching something, and someone, special.

@@OlArmySarge No, one season. She was 7 at auditioning and turned 8 while the competition was going on. There are 4 performances from the show.
@@OlArmySarge It's only for one season! Angelina started the competition when she was 7 yo, and she turned 8 before the final. The competition consists of 4 short pieces of music. You can find these on TH-cam with English text. They are available separately or merged into a longer film that also shows when Angelina is named the winner! Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with some of the same band members at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. The first thing she says is that she wants to start, followed by her saying she wants to start over, later she tells the pianist that the key is too low and that she wants to raise it a half-tone, then at the end of the song she changes the ending on the fly. Angelina has always decided WHAT and HOW she wants to sing! A few times her mother Sara has objected to texts. Then Angelina rewrites the text so that it is more appropriate for a little girl. You should know that Angelina is doing what she loves to do. No pressure from parents and others, just reach the goals she sets herself. The family is well ordered so that part is already done!

Thank you for featuring Angelina again. They are certainly coming at a pace and I hope you will NOT slow down as you have over 300 videos to do before you run out of choices. Angelina is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on TH-cam, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener.
This is Angelina's tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original.
There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below,
(a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled.
(b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers.
(c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it.
(d) The smile on the face of the Bass player.
(e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine"
(f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted.
(g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song.
(h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time.
(i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word
(j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody.
(k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying.
(l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella!
Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Angelina was just a few weeks beyond her 9th birthday, when she created her arrangement for this 1956 Screamin Jay Hawkins classic. Then she took control of the studio and musicians, who lovingly called her 'the boss'. She was already a national treasure in Norway before this performance. We don't know why the video wasn't uploaded until about a year after recording. If there is a more shocking, in a good way, music video, then I want to see it.

I wasn't sure your first few reactions were overly impressed with our young lady, but perhaps this one did the trick, a song I remember as a teenager listening to Screaming Jay over a radio station in Nashville back in the '50s. Angelina is not just an amazing singer, but an amazing human being, who has maintained her humanity and love for the less fortunate throughout her teenage years, now 18, and even more amazing. I hope you will spice up "getting to know you" time with Angelina and react to some of her latest treats, "If I were a Boy", a cover, and "Bad Valentine", a pre-release original.

She does her own vocal arrangements... She may well have a hand in the instrumental arrangements from time to time (I've seen it), but generally I'm fairly confident she's not controlling every aspect of the band.

I've always heard she did the instrumental arrangements, at least with small groups. She attended an after-school arts academy from I think about age 7, so apparently she learned arranging there.

Angelina created her vocal arrangements from the start cuz there was no one to do it for her instead (no musicians in her family) and she learned it early on in Oslo school of music and performance arts (from age five).
Instrumental arrangement ain't hers but she always was capable to descibe how she wants it to be played and had the final say in it for she is the headline vocalist (and she knew that no matter her age). There is footage how she worked out another Jay Hawkins song with this band (Portrait of a child). Angelina was 9yo in both.

Someone else has probably said it but she is known in the studio as "The Boss". She knows what she wants and gently persuades her accompaniment to do it her way. We have yet to see her limits.

I think there is auto tune in one of her performances but it is the EDM song "Above the Water" th-cam.com/video/y6SilwnR2Zc/w-d-xo.html which she did with the Norwegian band TRXD, where such vocal manipulation is common. However, I don't think it beyond her capability to have done it live.

Angelina 9 yo. Look at her! She controls the entire recording. She has the power and ability to carry this out. The fact that she then has an outstanding fantastic voice and theatrical body language only makes everything even better. The musicians are also amazingly good. They give everything to complete this masterpiece! This little Norwegian girl reads the English lyrics while singing! She is from Norway and they speak Norwegian there. English is Angelina's 3rd language! Already at 5-6 years old, she understands exactly what is meant in the English lyrics! Incredible!

She certainly did the arrangement of her vocals. (You should watch the quite "unique" original of this song by Screamin' Jay Hawkins in 1957. That's where she got her inspiration for her arrangement. The link is below.) I'm sure she didn't arrange every note of the musicians. I suspect she gave a them a guideline and let them go from there. However, she has the final say on everything. That's why they call her, "The Boss". As has been said here in the comments, she's just 9 years old. There's a video of her in a meeting with her musicians giving specific instructions on how she wants a part of the song to go.
