Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on TH-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English, Japanese and Swedish. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. Angelina plays the piano and guitar and also paints. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (145+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Michael Jackson to Etta James to James Brown to Amy Winehouse to the Beatles (and many others in between) and do them all justice! If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. There aren't words for this! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. We have here in Germany shops (Tafel-Laden), not realy supermarkets, as they depend on the donation of food that the real supermarkets are no longer allowed to sell. Because of the crisis, there is not enough food to get there, so the wife and me decided to buy food directly from farmers all over Europe called "Crowdfarming". And we buy coffee and gummy bears, that the shop "Tafel" in Germany" can´t get from the supermarkets. The smiling faces, we see, when bringing little bits to the Tafel-Shop is enough to sooth the soul. If you have something like that around, simple things like clothes, you no longer wear, will help a long way. I saw a Syrian mom frantically buying pullovers for her kids in winter for 0,50 Euro per item, normal costing 20,00 to 30,00 Euro, finally realizing how desparat this people are, coming to us. AJ is, at the very least, a top tier jazz/blues singer. Then she goes on into a bunch of other genres and is top tier in each of them as well. She sings the greatest songs by the greatest singers and is comparable or better than the best originals in almost every case (some would say I am selling her short). With over 160 recordings on TH-cam and many more on other platforms, there is a lot of material to cover. Here career started at age 7 on Norway's Got Talent that she went on to win. She is 16 today and still just as surprising in her performances. Next stop is "Bohemian Rhapsody" that she performed on AGT Champions, age 13. Shortly after that, so Norwegians told, she was declared "The National Treasure of Norway" by the people, the government and the royal family of Norway (That is something like beeing nobled by Queen Elizabeth of England). To this day, the Royals of Norway are her fans and friends. The same year at age 8, she sang for the laureates of the Nobel Peace Prize and caught a terrible cold; she was singing barefoot outdoors, in November, in Oslo, as she had vowed at age 6. Angelina’s people did not allow the release of the song because they thought it to be the wrong stylistic choice for her. Baby FuzZ never heard Angelina’s demo until years later. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on TH-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran.
Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English, Japanese and Swedish.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. Angelina plays the piano and guitar and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.

At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan.
The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.
Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old.
At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried.
Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience.
In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them.
In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists.
Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on TH-cam went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old.
In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration.
Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14.
A 9 years old, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs.
At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident.
On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year.
During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each.
In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT.
Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on TH-cam. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her.
In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one.

It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this!
"I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video).
You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. If you are still new to Angelina Jordan, here are some quick things to know about her. Angelina is a child prodigy in music, with many attesting to her having an 'old soul'. Even Angelina says of herself, “I feel like I’ve lived many years more than my age. I feel like music found me." Her mother had come home from shopping and heard her 16 month old singing lyrics from a Whitney Houston song (there's even a quick home video clip of this). By 2, Angelina was a great consumer of the Jazz classics (Ella, Louis, Etta, Billie, and so on). She says that she has learned to sing on her own. The biggest constant with Angelina Jordan is that her performances are always amazing to listen to. She arranges the music and lyrics to her performances to fit exactly how she envisions them. At 7 years old, a bushy haired (Amy Winehouse?), snaggle toothed, barefooted tiny girl stepped onto the stage of Norway's Got Talent (NGT Season 2014); the rest is history as she went on to win it. So I've got two areas to explore her early voice. The first is to go back to her NGT performances (more on this below). The second area to land on is 13 year-old Angelina's arrangement and performance of "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen, 1975) for her audition on America's Got Talent, The Champions in 2020. Angelina was invited to audition because she was an international "Got Talent" winner.

There are 4 NGT performances, beginning with Angelina paying homage to Billie Holiday, singing her arrangement of "Gloomy Sunday" (NGT 1). I listened to Holiday's performance, and find it amazing that I sometimes hear Billie's voice and phrasing, albeit from a 7 year-old. Her next performance (NGT 2) is her singing Frank Sinatra's "I'm a Fool to Want You" before a judge's elimination panel. She sang this completely acapella. NGT 3 was televised/live audience performance of Nancy Sinatra's version of "Bang, Bang". NGT 4 is her final performance, with Angelina singing "Summertime" (Gershwin). If you only have time to listen to one of the NGT performances, I believe that NGT 4 is the one to watch, as her voice continues to improve (and her missing permanent tooth has grown in). Angelina Jordan is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz". She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio recording. The story is that when living in the Middle East, at age 6, she came across an orphaned girl sitting in the street, earning money by weighing people on a bathroom scale. She noticed how really cold it was and that the little girl was not only barefoot, but had scars on her feet. So 6 year old Angelina took off her own shoes, shoes that she said she loved, and gave them to the girl. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.” In 2015, at 9 years of age, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter since everyone was asking why she sang barefooted (making her the youngest published author in Norway). Angelina has helped raise over 21 million euros and millions of dollars for children focused charities. Norwegian born Angelina began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. Her grandmother was her greatest influence, but Angelina chose her own path. Her first studio performance was at age 7, singing I Who Have Nothing. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of only 8, singing old time classics from Billie Holliday and George Gershwin, and became the youngest ever vocalist to win an international Got Talent Show! She also went viral on America's Got Talent the champions in 2020 with her unique version of Bohemian Rhapsody. Angelina sings in English which unbelievably is her third language! Why does Angelina sing barefoot?
When she was 6 years old, she was in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Monroe, nobody expects that Angelina will blow them away like she does, but she really is that good. She’s 9 here, and she’s 16 now-and she’s the best singer I’ve ever heard. She covers many different styles, but blues and jazz are in her bones. Try her cover of James Brown’s It’s a Man’s World. It’s amazing. Or if you want to see how fearless she is in her arrangements, watch her cover of Michael’s Billie Jean. It will blow you away again. Angelina is like no one you’ve heard before.

Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

The wife and me help neighbors who fled the Kosovo long ago, but because of their upbringing, they are a bit underprivileged, so we advise them where to buy good food, stuff for their here born teenager kids for school.
We have here in Germany shops (Tafel-Laden), not realy supermarkets, as they depend on the donation of food that the real supermarkets are no longer allowed to sell. Because of the crisis, there is not enough food to get there, so the wife and me decided to buy food directly from farmers all over Europe called "Crowdfarming". And we buy coffee and gummy bears, that the shop "Tafel" in Germany" can´t get from the supermarkets.
The smiling faces, we see, when bringing little bits to the Tafel-Shop is enough to sooth the soul. If you have something like that around, simple things like clothes, you no longer wear, will help a long way. I saw a Syrian mom frantically buying pullovers for her kids in winter for 0,50 Euro per item, normal costing 20,00 to 30,00 Euro, finally realizing how desparat this people are, coming to us.

Sadly, Angelina’s paternal grandfather died in March 2018 and her maternal grandfather died in November 2019. Angelina’s maternal grandmother Mery Zamani has had tremendous influence on Angelina and her career as she introduced Angelina to jazz at early age. Mery is somewhat famous Iranian contemporary writer, poet and painter who was also child prodigy herself being on Radio Iran's Children program at age 4 and began writing poetry and painting by age of 9. Later Mery was trained in art at Tokyo Academy in Japan where she met her husband, who was Japanese, during her master degree's training in Japan. AJ is, at the very least, a top tier jazz/blues singer. Then she goes on into a bunch of other genres and is top tier in each of them as well. She sings the greatest songs by the greatest singers and is comparable or better than the best originals in almost every case (some would say I am selling her short). With over 160 recordings on TH-cam and many more on other platforms, there is a lot of material to cover. Here career started at age 7 on Norway's Got
Talent that she went on to win. She is 16 today and still just as surprising in her performances.
Next stop is "Bohemian Rhapsody" that she performed on AGT Champions, age 13.

FYI, Angelina Jordan Astar, born in January 10th 2006 to Sara Astar and Gerry Slatmann, at age 1,5 singing in her crib (recorded) Whitney Houston. At age 2 discovering Jazz collection of grandparents, listening for days on end then changing to YT for more. At age 4, she insisted VERY much, started studying music and performance arts at the academy of Oslo, now LA. When age 6, she went to Waldorf School Oslo as well (the academy changed her timetable to "after school program").
Always exercising/singing 6 hours a day for 6 days a week to this day.
She wanted to participate at Norway Got Talent, when 5. NoGo. But, when 7 years old she was accepted, and won the whole thing at age 8.
The videos of NGT 2014 went viral. A Month after winning, she was invited by national TV2, to sing at a music festival for all ages. She instantly won over the hearts of young and old.
Shortly after that, so Norwegians told, she was declared "The National Treasure of Norway" by the people, the government and the royal family of Norway (That is something like beeing nobled by Queen Elizabeth of England). To this day, the Royals of Norway are her fans and friends.
The same year at age 8, she sang for the laureates of the Nobel Peace Prize and caught a terrible cold; she was singing barefoot outdoors, in November, in Oslo, as she had vowed at age 6.

She put the gift from above, her deep voice, to good use. Every now and then, a child is born, with a larynx, slightly bigger than usual, nothing monstrous, but most people with that gift are to dumb to use it. She started singing at the age of one year and a half and has been arranging her cover songs since she was 6 or 7 years old. She started with jazz!! She won “Norway Got Talent” at the age of 8!! There are more than 150 cover songs of all genres and singers. Now she also has her own songs.
