IN CASE OF A CREATIVE EMERGENCY: 5. Go for a walk.
Discipline is the most important act in the life of the artist. But that doesn't always look like discipline to remain at their desk. Sometimes it's the discipline it takes to remove themselves from their desk every single day.
The desk may be the place that the artist's work becomes fully realised, but away from the desk is often where the artists ideas are born, their imagination is untethered and their work is at its most important.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'In case of a creative emergency' is a list that I bashed out on my typewriter in November 2022. I was facing some pretty bad creative block at the time. I hit the wall of creative block often, as do literally all people who do creative things. I wanted to come up with a list of things I can turn to, when facing the wall of resistance, in order to smash it down and keep going. The list was made up of things that I gave a few days to think about. I tried to draw on my own experiences of what has worked for me in the past, but there are also examples here of things that I haven't really tried yet, but things that I think the use of would certainly help me to exercise my creative muscles.
What started as a list for myself to overcome times when work is a struggle has now developed into a weekly video series where I approach each exercise/idea in an attempt to inspire others. In an incredibly strange and meta way, I've actually overcome creative block by making myself incredibly busy making videos about how I overcome creative block, which in turn helps me to overcome said creative block because I have lots of work to focus on. Like I said, it's all very confusing.

    Excellent Andrew! Very nice upload.
For 2 years now, I walk every day at 05:30 for 45 minutes, last year I walked 1,000 miles!
I am blessed to be a Father, employee, husband, son, and friend... but to be the best of those roles, I need a bit of time to myself.
The world slays upon me countless demands and these walks give me the fresh air in order to process them best. It amazes me of how little people are awake at 5:30, I feel lucky enough to enjoy quiet space, wildlife sightings and unbelievable sunrises.
I highly recommend it to anyone who is creative or living a stressed or anxious life. It's a game changer.

Wow, that's great. You've definitely inspired me to keep getting up early and getting out. There's a real magic about being up and about before the rest of the world, but it's easier said than done, I find!

@@AndrewLavers Waking up at 5:30 isn't for everyone, and wasn't for me either, but I only did it after following my other rule; No technology /TV after 9pm.
Bed at 10pm to get my ideal 7.5 hours of sleep. I saw a beautiful crescent moon in an ink black sky this morning. Next month, I will catch the sunrises once again!
